@crawlersilverwind The Bible IS good. But you can't deny their arguments because the Bible (while inspired by God) was written by MEN. Men of ancient times and ancient morals. The context is gone, because it happened 2000 years ago.
The Bible is not God. It's a book. Books (especially the really important ones) have versions. We need a new version of the Bible that spells it out:
No slavery. No raping. No genocide. No treating women like cattle.
@LordRulesOnEarth That's good for meditation, but doesn't float water in an argument. They're protesting what they see as major problems in the Bible. And they're right!
Why do you cling to the Bible? The Bible isn't God. It's just a book. The most important boks are made to have REVISIONS. "1st edition" "2nd edition" etc., always improving on what came before.
Are you saying the Bible has NO room for improvement? Thees and Thous? Really? Get with the times!
@LordRulesOnEarth That isn't a failing of the person, necessarily. The Bible IS a very OLD book. It could stand an update in a clearer, more modern dialect, at the very least!
@crawlersilverwind You can't believe that. Atheists are sad, sure, but that's no reason to think they're all evil. Even if they are misguided, that doesn't mean they don't try to do good. They don't hate the Bible, they hate the game some people play with it, twisting the words to their own ends.
They think the game is too easy, and it's just a tool to lead people astray.
And it is! Why don't we fix that? Rewrite the Bible for a modern age?
@crawlersilverwind No, it's only logical. God knew we would learn from our past mistakes and grow. You can't learn from a mistake unless you admit it.
The Bible is an OLD book. It's a good book, but that doesn't mean it's perfect. Inspired by God, WRITTEN by MAN. Man is flawed. The Bible is flawed.
Why can't we take a page from the scientists and FIX the flaws in the Bible? They do it every year when something new is learned. We can too.
@kenVHYT Now that's just rude. Hell is a lie and you know it is. God is love, power, and truth. He would never allow ANY of his children to suffer for eternity in hell. If he cannot stand their presence, any hell he sends them to certainly wouldn't be eternal, only until they see the light.
He's all powerful AND all good. Hell, if it exists, is to reform the sinners, not torture them. That's monstrous! God would never allow it. Stop spreading the lie.
@LordRulesOnEarth That's just rude. God is love and truth. He wouldn't smite someone for disagreeing with him. God isn't petty like that. That's a human failing, something the human writers of the Bible put in to justify their feelings.
And besides, negative reinforcement is an ineffectual tool in reform. Everyone knows that the path back to goodness begins with love.
@KennyVaughan I agree. But that sort of thing needs to be spelled out.
Right now, the Bible is a horribly out of date manuscript. If we care about Christianity, we need to take a page from the scientists: revise the Bible and correct it for errors.
There's plenty of good work being done by Christians following the good, clear, logical, and still-applicable parts of the Bible. The errors and mad bits are long overdue for the scrapheap.
@ReceivingJesus They're just upset at what they see as religion-doing-evil. We're in the modern age and have rejected the madness of our ancestors: Christian anti-semitism, Crusades, the inquisition, stoning people for sins, etc., etc.
The problem is holding onto the Bible. Science gets to correct itself when humanity learns new things. That's why it works. Why can't we do that with the Bible? Make it clearer, better? We're good people. Let's prove it!
@LightHasDawned That's a terrible attitude to have. If someone is struggling, don't you extend a hand to help? And I'm pretty sure Jesus meant to make the foundation of reverse psychology. Tell the fool what he wishes to hear, say you're an athiest too, and simply correct them on their actual acts of evil in a culturally accepted, legal way.
Rejecting God isn't a sin. If that were true, he would be a sad, petty bod. He is not. He is love.
@DreamerDavious One of science's great strengths is its ability to correct itself when it's wrong. Haeckel's Embryos are a great example - scientists were called on it, and despite how cheap they are to use being 100 years old, only 20 out of 36,000 biology books that exist today have them in it.
It's wrong to rape. That should be in the bible. Period. Any passages hinting at a dissent should be removed or re-written.
Religion should get better when we learn new things too.
@GEERUP No, no. The Bible has many errors. AronRa has a detailed series on the fundamental flaws of creationism.
But that doesn't mean God isn't real. The Bible was written by man, and even with divine guidance, has errors. Man is flawed. The Bible is flawed.
The followers of Christianity are responsible for horrible things, following these errors. Today, we know that it is wrong to stone someone to death for being a homosexual.
@LightHasDawned Oh, please. God isn't petty like that. He loves all his children. When your child disobeys, do you kill him in a lake of fire? No! You correct him and show him the light. Hell is good only as a story for children who haven't reached the age of reason yet. When evil people die, they're still people. Still God's children. How God corrects them and brings them into the light is a mystery, but I have faith that is the truth. God is love.
I can live a good life, give of myself, help others, and make the world a better place, but if I reject god, I must spend eternity in hell? Do you think non-christians are incapable of being good? Does GOD think that? No!
He's omniscient and all-loving. He does NOT torture because he is benevolant and omnipotent. There IS no burning hell of fire, and shame on you for perpetuating the lie.
@vycka1234 That depends on what branch of Islam you follow. Like Christianity, Islam's holy book needs editing. Scientists are constantly editing their books in light of new information, why not religions?
@GoodGuy4life199 Geerup is a good man for allowing dissenting views. Censorship ends the spread of information. Without examples of darkness, how is one supposed to learn how to direct the light?
@acoustic4037 That's horrific. God would never punish OR instruct someone by killing their children. Anyone's children.
Murder of anyone, much less children, is no tool for reform. It's widely known that violence and other negative reinforcement does NOT heal or reform a twisted mind.
@athlete117 Lies. I can live a good life, give of myself, help others, and make the world a better place, but if I reject god, I must spend eternity in hell? Do you think non-christians are incapable of being good? Does GOD think that? No
He's omniscient and all-loving. He does NOT torture because he is benevolant and omnipotent. There IS no hell, and shame on you for perpetuating the lie.
@athlete117 And by participating in this religion, you are endorsing infinite suffering for a disagreement.
Your religion is not good, because "hell" is its way of putting a gun to your head to get what it wants. God is GOOD, and the only logical "hell" a good god would allow might be a reform school you're condemned to suffer until you can play well with others.
Why don't you want people - even despicable people - to be saved?
@Tribefull Holy Bible is made up of 66 books and we have 44 different authors all inspired by God. The Bible is a book of history. in both old and new Testaments there is an overarching theme of struggles of the Israelites. and then in the New Testament we have God's only begotten son arriving on the scene in order to redeem mankind from his fallenness. clearly the atheist resists truth even to their own peril.
@GEERUP Your declarative statements do not change the fact that god commanded/condoned the death or rape or torture of literally millions of people through the old testament. The numbers are drastically higher if you count the deaths of the millions of sacrificial animals killed for no other reason than to appease god.
if you use the complexity argument about why the universe needs a creator , then that even more complex creator must then need a creator . or else the basis of the argument is not valid .
@MrAtrophy Incorrect singular complex creator is all that we need for the existence of the universe. if something exists something must exist necessarily to put their. pure logic inescapable
@GEERUP , then that logic applies to your creator , if your creator exists , then something must logically have put it there , pure , logic , inescapable.
@geerup scripture about rape, Deuteronomy 20:10-14 , Deuteronomy 22:28-29 , Numbers 31:7-18 , Deuteronomy 22:23-24 , and 2 Samuel 12:11-14 , Deuteronomy 21:10-14 , Judges 5:30 , Exodus 21:7-11 and Zechariah 14:1-2 . to qualify these laws . psalm 19:7 states " The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple."2 peter 20 " Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation "
@MrAtrophy Thanks for going to the trouble of drawing up the Scriptures I hope you read them. you will find out because the Bible historically documents something doesn't mean that God himself endorses it.
Numbers 31:7-18 for a start. Of course you will insist that this is somehow out of context so feel free to include the context which makes it OK to kill an entire tribe except for the virgins who you get to repeatedly rape.
Numbers 31:7-18 NLT God tells Moses to invade the Midians for their crimes. At the end of the battle Moses gets upset at his commanders for letting the women live and tells them to take the virgin women as their own in God's name.
Also, Noah's ark is God commiting (thus condoning) genocide.
Deuteronomy 20:10-14 "kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder.
YOU are the one twisting things. I think you could probably twist anything to fit if you wanted to. Have you actually read the Bible at all? Exodus 21 perhaps? 'If thou buy a Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing' - Now reply, and twist that to fit that the Bible doesn't endorse slavery. I am sure you can. Cherry pick the nice bits, and reject the others.
@Lollyfizzbm And the Jesus myth started in the exact same way. Someone told a story about Jesus, and others continued to spreading it. From the beginning the story was most likely not very extraordinary, but humans have a tendency to exaggerate, and while time passed, more and more details were worked out by those who spread it. The Romans kept good track on their provinces, with plenty of data about the different towns, and nowhere is Nazareth mentioned. Because it didn't exist yet.
@Lollyfizzbm Do you compare conspiracy theories with the life of Jesus? You're not doing yourself a favor. Take for example a historical person such as Abraham Lincoln. Imagine if there were absolutely no historical documents or writing from the time of his life. The only ones we had were written first AFTER his death. Wouldn't that be suspicious? Just like the myth about Hercules, the Jesus myth is based from hearsay, and we have the same amount of evidence for both of them.
@Lollyfizzbm Like I said, there's no sources from the time of his life, that describes him, outside of the bible. The dead sea scrolls ARE biblical scriptures(as I am sure you're aware of, the bible is not one book, but a collection of many). The thing I'm talking about is for example if there would be mentions of him by that times historians or writers. But we have nothing. Neither Herod's child-murder is mentioned anywhere, and the Romans would have written about such a remarkable event.
@Lollyfizzbm Excuse me, you are correct on that several things mentioned in the bible are mentioned in other historical sources, but Jesus is not one of them. We do not have one single contemporary historical source from the time of his life. The only mentions of "christ" we have, are from after his death, and they are vaguely formulated and doesn't support the actual existence of Jesus at all. And I hope you're joking regarding using BC and AD as a proof for his existence.
I've read your bible many times and it's a constant reminder of how infinitely superior my morals are to any one of the psychopaths in it. Your hideous god being the worst. If Moses et al were alive today they would be taken to the Hague in chains and tried for crimes against humanity.
@evolutionist101 You are just another radical atheist who loves to make fun of good Christians who do good things and who will probably never know God. Deep down from the bottom of my heart, I am sorry for your lost soul unless you repent. You have no idea what God has prepared for you in Heaven. God loves you and so do I and so does Geerup. Just remember, if you go to Hell, it is YOUR OWN FAULT and not the way in which the Gospel message is being delivered. Perhaps watch "normal" Christians.
@JamesHolman1000 Explain what a "radical" atheist is? What is a "non-radical" atheist? I would like to say geerup is intellectually dishonest, but he has no intellect. He is VERY disingenuous. Builds strawmen and tears them down, while you're cheering him from the sidelines. Being disingenuous is NOT a good thing.
BTW. Does ANYTHING happen that is NOT according to "gods" will? If I go to Hell sir...it will be according to "gods" will. If you understood your own Bible, you'd know that.
A radical atheist is someone who is absoultely fanatical about their atheism and wants others to be atheists. A non radical atheist is somebody who is an atheist but does not want other people to necessarily agree with them.
@JamesHolman1000 So what did I say that makes me "radical". As dishonest as geerup is.....I'm going to point it out. His claims in the Video is NONSENSE. The God of the Bible endorsed Slavery and has been backed up by scripture.
So what happened to slaves that refused to work? Why were they allowed to pass slaves off to their children? Why did the Bible give instruction on how to properly beat a slave? What if I didn't want to be a slave? Don't give me that NON-OPPRESSIVE NONSENSE. They conquered nations and took slaves. They wiped entire cities of Men, Women and Children and sometimes kept the Virgin girls for themselves. Yeah..that's not rape.
@evolutionist101 The virgin girls would have been far better off with the Israeli men than the evil pervert men who used to have them. God bless you and shalom to Israel!
@JamesHolman1000 You keep telling yourself that....remember, they were VIRGINS before "gods people" got a hold of them. You've proven to be yet another delusional theist, justifying atrocities. Disgusting......
@evolutionist101 They WERE perverted men who USED TO HAVE the virgin girls. Much like the Muslim extremists in the Middle East who sanction polygamy, wife beating, immodestly dressed women being raped and then punished and pedophillia. Different religion, same anti semitic demonic pervert mass murderers like the ones God had killed in the Old Testament. God bless you.
@JamesHolman1000 So you're ok with the slaughter of male babies in the crib? Males 13 and younger, huh? Wow...what a LOVING god. You can keep his sorry ass.
All whites are not alike, alot believe in this dirt.Higher people who think they are in charge. They have the world figured out for themselves and others. Now look at the news,Look at these prices.America is barely making it.A trillion dollars a year gone. And whos to blame?Throw em in a boat send them in a storm far away from land. They will never know God anyway. They're just trying to flush us down the drain with them.
@Lollyfizzbm The Odyssey and the Iliad are both old books which could be classes as historical documents yet they lie in fiction.... Les Misérables is also a historical document used to examine the way of life and the construction of the French sewer systems at the time.
The Greatest lies always have a foundation of truth. For example World War 2 happened, D-Day happened most of the events in Saving Private Ryan on the other hand were fiction.... The Bible is nothing but a fictitious book.
You say the world is so complex yet then you answer it complexity with dull answer. God did it is such a DULL answer. Nothing so complex could come from something so DULL.
You need atheists to tell you where in your bible that parts of scriptures are? Seems to me you don't know enough about your bible.
Now I certainly believe that god doesn't condone or endorse rape, however murder, he does himself. Slavery, he gives specific instructions on how to treat a slave. That is condoning it. The bible is clear.
The bible tells us what slaves me may take, how much they are worth and how we are allowed to beat them
God orders genocide and murder on many occations
And God tells us that if you rape a virgin woman who is not promised to a man then your punishment is that you pay the father some silver and mary the girl
How is that not condoning?
And then you ask for context?
Please explain to me in what possible context this could possibly be good morals? Only religion could make you think that
It's funny how no one in the Bible is really able to provide creditable evidence that they were influenced by God himself. All they did was write down some verses, after that they put it in the Bible and people that are disillusioned say they were influenced because they are in the book. And then those that are ignorant to logic and intelligence simply condemn those who aren't you. You being Theists.
Geerup...you appear to be someone who has not read the bible. God committed Genocide how many times in the bible? HE DID IT. Do you deny that god actually laid down rules for slavery? Who could be a slave....how long you could keep them...."sometimes for only your life...sometimes you could pass them down". How hard you could beat your slave. Your GOD laid down these rules for slavery. How can you possibly say that is not condoning slavery?
@MrJmm999 Have you? Do you understand it? You're making a complete fool of yourself at this point.....I would just really stop before you dig a deeper hole that you've already dug.
@madman3247 Are you denying that god committed genocide? Are you denying that God set down rules for slavery? I am sorry but if you want to defend your god's cruelty....it is you who needs the shovel to dig yourself deeper.
Now....it's your turn to make excuses for your god's cruelty.
@MrJmm999 true God says;all humans will serve my purpose.Humans shall replenish the earth. The slaves are the ones thats working now through evil establishments. They are taking a beating right now.All they have build will fall. The rightous shall take over.Your soul heaven or hell.that body your in goes back to the earth, dirt, ground that you walk on it will serve Gods purpose one way or the other.Im quite sure you need to read the bible and get a better understanding.
@MrJahrelle Rarely do i see someone who types so much as says so little. Did your god commit genocide? Did your god set the rules for slavery? Why are you people so damn ashamed of what your god has done?
more people died in the name of god than any other reasons. just take the inquisition , the cruciades.." hey im a fucking christian lets go and kill men women and children cuz they dont belive in my fucking imaginary friend"
GOOGLED your list of quotes and found they are not your own work but copied off on of a number of anti-Bible websites. Problem is, here and on all those sites, these references = FALSE (using your language!) Ezekiel one doesn't even exist! Wisdom is not a book of the Bible Jeremiah is a prophecy without any evidence it was taken literally. Judges does not say it was God's call. Deuteronomy did not mention burning people and not as a routine. I didn't bother checking any others. This is just SPAM!
@mark1v15 You Fail. i never said they were my own work, the fact that i took them from an "anti-bible" website does not change what the passages say. Ezekiel is a real book it comes after Lamentations and before Daniel in the OT in the Bible. The book of Wisdoms is one of the deuterocanonical books, its considered canon by the catholic church. for Judges it was either God directly or with the blessings of God or with the help of God that shit happened. and God does condone ritual sacrifice.
@mark1v15 the fact that you didn't look this shit up or the rest shows that you don't really care about the truth and that you don't read your bible, like i did when i was a christian
I Hope you enjoy wasting your life by devoting it towards an ancient device of population control that has grasped the hearts and minds of every single peasant, soldier, and person alike for 2 thousand years, when in reality it was merely just a convenient way for a group of slaves to motivate their people to escape from their oppressors, but it sure makes you feel safe huh?
Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.
Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
(Cont. 3) unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho. And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp. And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle. And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods. And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire. And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts. And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel.
And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand. And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males. And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.
isn't that exactly how christianity created by picing and choosing what book was going to be part of the bible? then are you saying that all christians are Atheist?
come one someone should help this guy on his debate he needs to bring strong points to the table to sell it to the unwise populous...
I believe you are talking about the rich man (Luke 18) who came to Jesus and asked him how to be saved. The rich man bragged that he had done everything in the commandments, but Jesus sensed his love for money and tested him to see if he would give it all away and follow him. The rich man was unwilling to do that and therefore broke the first commandment. He was not unsaved because he was rich, he was unsaved because he cared about it more than Jesus.
Leviticus 25:44:46 Both thy bondmen & thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen & bondmaids. Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy & of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land & they shall be your possession.
& ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever
I would like to ask you one question. In the ten commandments God tell us that we shall not kill. But he goes on to bring plagues onto the Egyptians in essence killing them. Does this make God a hypocrite?
Definition of hypocrite- one who says one thing and then does another.
I don't know if you have children but, does it make you a hypocrite to tell them not to do something that you've done yourself? Do as I say, not as I do, I know you've heard this or said this before. Plus He's God, we were made for His pleasure not the other way around. You don't even know the reason why God brings plagues and lots of other stuff to people, do you? Read more it tells why...
@therepentantmouth The definition of hypocrite is one who does something and tells others to do something else. The justification of this does not make him less of a hypocrite
Lets say you were hiking and a rock falls on your arm, you've tried everything to free yourself, but can't. Only thing left to do is cut your arm off or you'll die, but you'll live without an arm for the rest of your life.
justification comes in play doesn't it? You will cut your arm off to save your life, God will let things happen to save others. Earthquake just happened, 212,000 so far found dead, one birth...A time for everything!
@therepentantmouth But your God is capable of anything. Or at least that sure is the impression I get from the Bible, of which i have read much of the New Testament. So his only option wasn't "cutting off the arm" aka killing the egyptians first borns and then plaguing them ect. he could have come with something else, chose not to, and then told Moses not to do what he went on to do. Which is really the same as doing it and then saying not to, due to his omniscience.
@xehcanadianx Yes I think God can do anything :) Did God just kill Egyptians first born and then plaguing them, or did Moses tell them first, let my people go? Let me ask you something, how many Israelites did the Egyptians kill, enslave and torture? Do you know what happened to lots of babies when Jesus was born, they were looking for Him so they could kill Him? I have never questioned why God does what He does, or doesn't do! He's God...He made us for His pleasure.
Well i guess that is what makes us different. I question many of your God's actions, as they appear to me to be atrocious. Based on my judgement of right and wrong, God committed deplorable acts that are simply not justifiable to me. Even if his actions were justifiable, then why did he not act on similar evils throughout history (holocaust, Stalin's tyranny, Attila the Hun's conquests, various others). However if you chose to follow blindly, thats your choice, but i will remain a skeptic.
Each of us walk our own path, only God can change your mind. If you don't believe, so-k with me...I just have to make sure you know about God and Christ, after that your blood is no longer on my hands....I wish you luck!
@Joeybugman Have you ever felt pain so bad, that you needed to take a pain killer? You could try and explain the pain you feel, but other people can't feel your pain and many people lie about the pain they feel, just to get drugs...is this not true? But ask yourself, does this mean pain is just a figment of your imagination that was passed down from generation to generation? If you've never heard of pain, does it exist? God wrote it in my heart :) I feel Him all the time...
@therepentantmouth I'm sure that you truly believe that you feel something in your heart which you're atributing to a God for no reason but this is not a God that you feel. Don't ascribe these feeling that you have to a fictional tyrant that doesn't deserve it. Oh and people can imagine they feel pain that doesn't exist, people can also be imune to pain when they should be feeling it. The human mind is tricky like that.
@Joeybugman Look....I hate saying this to people, but some will never feel what I and millions of other people feel, sad but true. Just because God isn't in you, doesn't mean there is no God. If I had it my way, people would step out of this world and realize the gifts you've been given.... You have to pick your path, I can't do that for you but I can warn you. So you've been warned, please listen and stop pushing God away... I'll die loving and trying to please God!!!
@therepentantmouth "I'll die loving and trying to please God!!!" and that is the moment that you sacrifice your mind completely to something that does not exist. I'm sorry you've convinced yourself that moments of love, awe, overwhelming joy or whatever it is you felt are the product of something that just isn't there.
@Joeybugman I happily sacrifice my mind, soul and body for my God! People like you, only do this for selfish reasons and call it....."life"
You're not me so your words are meaningless and really stupid, you shouldn't make up things to make yourself feel better...."it is what it is"....and it doesn't make God any less real. Good luck with that mindset!
@therepentantmouth By saying that my words are meaningless to you you're just demonstrating how stuborn you're chosing to be. You don't care whether or not God exists, you just enjoy feeling superior over those who wont sacrifice their "mind" "soul" or "body" to your bullshit
@Joeybugman And by you trying so hard to toss underhanded potshots at me, makes me laugh :) lol You don't get it! Whether are not God exists isn't a question in my mind, it's in yours. I don't feel like I'm better then anyone, we all sin...you're making that up in your head, cause not once have I even thought that. If giving in to Godlessness is being stubborn, then I'm stubborn and that's so-k by me :)
NT quote from Jesus: Luk 19:26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him. Luk 19:27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay [them] before me. Luk 19:28 ¶ And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.
i mean seriously the bible is hypocracy ( cant spell it sorry) its basically says killing is wrong unless its in my name. Another example joshua im named after him lol but no seriously god tells joshua to kill every man woman and child in the city i dont know how to spell it so not gonna try but im pretty sure you know what im talking about they even killed the animals i mean what a sick fuck this god is i would rather go to hell then live in his so called paradise!
god doesnt condone murder.... ummm now im not a hundred percent on this cus i was once a christian not any more tho but im pretty sure god told abraham to kill his son... for what ever reason doesnt really matter he convinced him that he was more important than his own son and that his son needed to dye to prove his LOYALTY.... wow what a fucked up god hes the one who should go to hell not us!
You dont even realize that you believe this shit because you were raised to believe it. Is that a good reason to believe something is true? You just tell people that they don't know what they're talking about. You quote these ancient desert scribblings for morality and suddently, WE take it out of context? Atheists, regarding morality, are NOTHING LIKE THE BIBLE TELLS YOU- YOU DELUDED FUCK. Most of us are extremely moral, curious people who get their morality from preference, school and parents.
Its funny to have people tell you things about yourself that you personally verify (and prove) to not be true. You are actually 100% wrong, atheists are not people running from god who do not WANT to understand him.We just don't believe it exists, THAT SIMPLE. I, along with MANY atheists, would praise a god if there was ANY evidence for it existing. There are 33,000 denominations of christianity and there are millions of contradicting religions. They cant all be right, be they can all be wrong.
"The Bible is clear. It condemns these types of acts."
How can you possibly state that the Bible is clear in condemning these acts when God of the Bible orders such acts to take place?
How can you state that the Bible is clear in its condemnation when people, to this day, use the Bible as justification for subjugating and murdering others, up to and including rape, slavery and genocide?
@GEERUP God condones slavery.....he could have easily said that rape was an abomination or slavery was an abomination and those who called themselves believers would have to stop, but he didnt he told them how to do it. but he does say that eatting shell fish is an abomination....hmm. maybe he just over looked slavery, and rape? it makes more sense that it was written by men who would benefit greatly by endorsing slavery.
Have you read your bible?!? The Israelites were COMMANDED by "God" to kill everyone in the cities of Canaan...they were to "Leave nothing alive that breathes" (Deuteronomy 20:16).
How is this not murder/genocide? How do you rationalize this away?
Your attitude is creepy. I feel dirty having watched this.
From there Elisha went up to Bethel. While he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him. "Go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!" The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces. (2 Kings 2:23-24)
42 children, ripped to pecies for calling a man "bald head". please explain how the that is just.
Just b/c an act is done in the Bible, that does not make it a justifiable act in the eyes of God. The Bible is a history book and an account of real life.
In John 8 there is an account of a woman who was caught in an adulterous affair. The men who caught this woman brought her before Jesus. The law of Moses AND the 10 laws says that adultery is wrong. She could've been stoned under the imperfect law of Moses.
The punishment of sin was death but Jesus didn't offer her death he offered her life and life free from slavery of sin. That was the reason for his being here on earth.
Jesus ward off her accusers and told the woman to go and sin no more.
yeah seriously. Its funny how you can literally type in evil bible verses under google and get scripture WITH CONTEXT that is BLATANT instruction to kill people and abuse your children. Has geerup never read the bible? Wtf, how can he not know that. Its so obvious that there is a laundry list of commands from "god" in the bible, in context, that condone some of the most despicable things in any book. CHRISTIANS are the ones ignoring context and cherry picking quotes to support their position.
No disrespect, the fact that you said that God himself told moses what to write on the tablets proves that you are very unknowledgeable of the Bible. You don't have to believe in God's existence to "know how the story goes".
In fact...you are not interested in hearing "a reason" or an answer. You are only interested in desecrating the word of God. How can you give an answer to someone who has their ears plugged up?
exodus 20: 1-3 "AND GOD SPAKE ALL THESE WORDS, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me." etc...
explain to me how the ten commandments came to be then.
why don't you try reading your own bible. that is just too funny. you have NO IDEA how sick i am of telling "christians" what's in their own bible...
"...written with the finger of God." Exodus 31:18; 32:16.
You admit, this is what it says.
Ok. Now you will know what I'm talking about. Now you know the difference between the law of moses and the 10 commandments.
The LOM was imperfect. The royal law or the deca law known as the 10 commandments was written with the finger of God himself...Moses never thought up or wrote the 10 commandments himself. The 10 commandments are infallible, unparalleled and unrivaled to the LOM...
i admit i screwed up a little there BUT...god DID(according to the bible) speak the commandments in exodus 20: 1-17 to moses before he wrote them in Exodus 31:18; 32:16.
anyways...i don't even know how i got trailed off onto that subject.
my point was that you said: "Just b/c an act is done in the Bible, that does not make it a justifiable act in the eyes of God"
the ACT i was talking about was DONE BY GOD HIMSELF in (2 Kings 2:23-24)
duh, God has killed alot; remember the flood? the bible even says "theres a time to kill" He will kill many more in the future including satan not have souls tortured through out eternity. God is just when He kills, satan is a murderer.
Can you quote the verse that says that God condones killing?
This is an account about a bunch of mean kids mocking Elisha and some bears came upon them and mauled them...these verses do not say that God condones killing.
Come on...you can do better than that. If you are going to come weak don't come at all.
For the point you are arguing there are a million better verses to try to use to make your reason sound more logical lol.
are you serious? you're saying the bears came out on their own? not because elisha cursed them?
lets look at this again..." The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces"
he cursed them in the name of the lord, then bears mauled them.
are you really saying that the lord didn't send the bears after elisha cursed them "in the name of the lord"? LOL
In plain English.
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@LordRulesOnEarth That's good for meditation, but doesn't float water in an argument. They're protesting what they see as major problems in the Bible. And they're right!
Why do you cling to the Bible? The Bible isn't God. It's just a book. The most important boks are made to have REVISIONS. "1st edition" "2nd edition" etc., always improving on what came before.
Are you saying the Bible has NO room for improvement? Thees and Thous? Really? Get with the times!
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@LordRulesOnEarth That isn't a failing of the person, necessarily. The Bible IS a very OLD book. It could stand an update in a clearer, more modern dialect, at the very least!
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@crawlersilverwind You can't believe that. Atheists are sad, sure, but that's no reason to think they're all evil. Even if they are misguided, that doesn't mean they don't try to do good. They don't hate the Bible, they hate the game some people play with it, twisting the words to their own ends.
They think the game is too easy, and it's just a tool to lead people astray.
And it is! Why don't we fix that? Rewrite the Bible for a modern age?
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@crawlersilverwind No, it's only logical. God knew we would learn from our past mistakes and grow. You can't learn from a mistake unless you admit it.
The Bible is an OLD book. It's a good book, but that doesn't mean it's perfect. Inspired by God, WRITTEN by MAN. Man is flawed. The Bible is flawed.
Why can't we take a page from the scientists and FIX the flaws in the Bible? They do it every year when something new is learned. We can too.
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@kenVHYT Now that's just rude. Hell is a lie and you know it is. God is love, power, and truth. He would never allow ANY of his children to suffer for eternity in hell. If he cannot stand their presence, any hell he sends them to certainly wouldn't be eternal, only until they see the light.
He's all powerful AND all good. Hell, if it exists, is to reform the sinners, not torture them. That's monstrous! God would never allow it. Stop spreading the lie.
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@LordRulesOnEarth That's just rude. God is love and truth. He wouldn't smite someone for disagreeing with him. God isn't petty like that. That's a human failing, something the human writers of the Bible put in to justify their feelings.
And besides, negative reinforcement is an ineffectual tool in reform. Everyone knows that the path back to goodness begins with love.
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@KennyVaughan I agree. But that sort of thing needs to be spelled out.
Right now, the Bible is a horribly out of date manuscript. If we care about Christianity, we need to take a page from the scientists: revise the Bible and correct it for errors.
There's plenty of good work being done by Christians following the good, clear, logical, and still-applicable parts of the Bible. The errors and mad bits are long overdue for the scrapheap.
Don't throw it, fix it!
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@ReceivingJesus They're just upset at what they see as religion-doing-evil. We're in the modern age and have rejected the madness of our ancestors: Christian anti-semitism, Crusades, the inquisition, stoning people for sins, etc., etc.
The problem is holding onto the Bible. Science gets to correct itself when humanity learns new things. That's why it works. Why can't we do that with the Bible? Make it clearer, better? We're good people. Let's prove it!
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@LightHasDawned That's a terrible attitude to have. If someone is struggling, don't you extend a hand to help? And I'm pretty sure Jesus meant to make the foundation of reverse psychology. Tell the fool what he wishes to hear, say you're an athiest too, and simply correct them on their actual acts of evil in a culturally accepted, legal way.
Rejecting God isn't a sin. If that were true, he would be a sad, petty bod. He is not. He is love.
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@DreamerDavious One of science's great strengths is its ability to correct itself when it's wrong. Haeckel's Embryos are a great example - scientists were called on it, and despite how cheap they are to use being 100 years old, only 20 out of 36,000 biology books that exist today have them in it.
It's wrong to rape. That should be in the bible. Period. Any passages hinting at a dissent should be removed or re-written.
Religion should get better when we learn new things too.
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@GEERUP No, no. The Bible has many errors. AronRa has a detailed series on the fundamental flaws of creationism.
But that doesn't mean God isn't real. The Bible was written by man, and even with divine guidance, has errors. Man is flawed. The Bible is flawed.
The followers of Christianity are responsible for horrible things, following these errors. Today, we know that it is wrong to stone someone to death for being a homosexual.
The bible needs fixing. God does not.
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@LightHasDawned Oh, please. God isn't petty like that. He loves all his children. When your child disobeys, do you kill him in a lake of fire? No! You correct him and show him the light. Hell is good only as a story for children who haven't reached the age of reason yet. When evil people die, they're still people. Still God's children. How God corrects them and brings them into the light is a mystery, but I have faith that is the truth. God is love.
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@LightHasDawned You should be!
There IS no burning hell of fire, and shame on you for perpetuating the lie.
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@vycka1234 That depends on what branch of Islam you follow. Like Christianity, Islam's holy book needs editing. Scientists are constantly editing their books in light of new information, why not religions?
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@GoodGuy4life199 Geerup is a good man for allowing dissenting views. Censorship ends the spread of information. Without examples of darkness, how is one supposed to learn how to direct the light?
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@acoustic4037 That's horrific. God would never punish OR instruct someone by killing their children. Anyone's children.
Murder of anyone, much less children, is no tool for reform. It's widely known that violence and other negative reinforcement does NOT heal or reform a twisted mind.
The road to reform can only start with love.
arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@athlete117 Lies. I can live a good life, give of myself, help others, and make the world a better place, but if I reject god, I must spend eternity in hell? Do you think non-christians are incapable of being good? Does GOD think that? No

arthurjeremypearson 1 month ago
@athlete117 And by participating in this religion, you are endorsing infinite suffering for a disagreement.
Your religion is not good, because "hell" is its way of putting a gun to your head to get what it wants. God is GOOD, and the only logical "hell" a good god would allow might be a reform school you're condemned to suffer until you can play well with others.
Why don't you want people - even despicable people - to be saved?
Love and acceptance. THAT is God.

Axcalzia 6 months ago
@Lollyfizzbm Do you compare conspiracy theories with the life of Jesus? You're not doing yourself a favor. Take for example a historical person such as Abraham Lincoln. Imagine if there were absolutely no historical documents or writing from the time of his life. The only ones we had were written first AFTER his death. Wouldn't that be suspicious? Just like the myth about Hercules, the Jesus myth is based from hearsay, and we have the same amount of evidence for both of them.
Axcalzia 6 months ago
@Lollyfizzbm Like I said, there's no sources from the time of his life, that describes him, outside of the bible. The dead sea scrolls ARE biblical scriptures(as I am sure you're aware of, the bible is not one book, but a collection of many). The thing I'm talking about is for example if there would be mentions of him by that times historians or writers. But we have nothing. Neither Herod's child-murder is mentioned anywhere, and the Romans would have written about such a remarkable event.
Axcalzia 6 months ago
@Lollyfizzbm Excuse me, you are correct on that several things mentioned in the bible are mentioned in other historical sources, but Jesus is not one of them. We do not have one single contemporary historical source from the time of his life. The only mentions of "christ" we have, are from after his death, and they are vaguely formulated and doesn't support the actual existence of Jesus at all. And I hope you're joking regarding using BC and AD as a proof for his existence.

If you understood your own Bible, you'd know that.
evolutionist101 3 months ago
A radical atheist is someone who is absoultely fanatical about their atheism and wants others to be atheists. A non radical atheist is somebody who is an atheist but does not want other people to necessarily agree with them.

This is just SPAM!
mark1v15 1 year ago
@mark1v15 You Fail. i never said they were my own work, the fact that i took them from an "anti-bible" website does not change what the passages say. Ezekiel is a real book it comes after Lamentations and before Daniel in the OT in the Bible. The book of Wisdoms is one of the deuterocanonical books, its considered canon by the catholic church. for Judges it was either God directly or with the blessings of God or with the help of God that shit happened. and God does condone ritual sacrifice.

(Cont. 4)
SO GEERUP, WOULD YOU DO WHAT GOD SAID?

And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

No actually it doesn't.

As Jeff Foxworthy might say:
If your "god" orders genocide to be carried out (which he does in the bible), then he might be a genocidal maniac
If your "god" orders the murder of babies (which he does in the bible), then he might be a infanticidal psycho.
And if your "god" provides slave-buying instructions to his people (which he does in the bible), then he might be a pro-slavery SOB.
Biblical references provided upon request
Cheers
P.S. Please wake the flip up
LetReasonPrevail1 1 year ago 2
Here's the bible text: Leviticus 25:44-46
Here the context: God is giving his people SLAVE-BUYING INSTRUCTIONS. What other context do you need?
So I guess god gives out slave-buying instructions, but that doesn't reasonably imply that he condones the practice of slavery? Give me a break
Buy the way, the Christians that are troubled by this stuff aren't the "moderate" or "confused" Christians as you call them.
No, they are the ones who are actually using reason & logic. Shame on them!

Please get back to me on this, thank you.
xehcanadianx 2 years ago
@xehcanadianx
Read more it tells why...
therepentantmouth 1 year ago
@therepentantmouth The definition of hypocrite is one who does something and tells others to do something else. The justification of this does not make him less of a hypocrite
xehcanadianx 1 year ago
@xehcanadianx
Earthquake just happened, 212,000 so far found dead, one birth...A time for everything!
therepentantmouth 1 year ago
@therepentantmouth But your God is capable of anything. Or at least that sure is the impression I get from the Bible, of which i have read much of the New Testament. So his only option wasn't "cutting off the arm" aka killing the egyptians first borns and then plaguing them ect. he could have come with something else, chose not to, and then told Moses not to do what he went on to do. Which is really the same as doing it and then saying not to, due to his omniscience.
xehcanadianx 1 year ago
@xehcanadianx Yes I think God can do anything :) Did God just kill Egyptians first born and then plaguing them, or did Moses tell them first, let my people go? Let me ask you something, how many Israelites did the Egyptians kill, enslave and torture? Do you know what happened to lots of babies when Jesus was born, they were looking for Him so they could kill Him? I have never questioned why God does what He does, or doesn't do! He's God...He made us for His pleasure.
therepentantmouth 1 year ago
Well i guess that is what makes us different. I question many of your God's actions, as they appear to me to be atrocious. Based on my judgement of right and wrong, God committed deplorable acts that are simply not justifiable to me. Even if his actions were justifiable, then why did he not act on similar evils throughout history (holocaust, Stalin's tyranny, Attila the Hun's conquests, various others). However if you chose to follow blindly, thats your choice, but i will remain a skeptic.

But ask yourself, does this mean pain is just a figment of your imagination that was passed down from generation to generation? If you've never heard of pain, does it exist? God wrote it in my heart :) I feel Him all the time...
Plus Prophecy!
therepentantmouth 1 year ago
@therepentantmouth I'm sure that you truly believe that you feel something in your heart which you're atributing to a God for no reason but this is not a God that you feel. Don't ascribe these feeling that you have to a fictional tyrant that doesn't deserve it. Oh and people can imagine they feel pain that doesn't exist, people can also be imune to pain when they should be feeling it. The human mind is tricky like that.
Joeybugman 1 year ago
@Joeybugman Look....I hate saying this to people, but some will never feel what I and millions of other people feel, sad but true. Just because God isn't in you, doesn't mean there is no God. So you've been warned, please listen and stop pushing God away... I'll die loving and trying to please God!!!
therepentantmouth 1 year ago
@therepentantmouth "I'll die loving and trying to please God!!!" and that is the moment that you sacrifice your mind completely to something that does not exist. @Joeybugman I happily sacrifice my mind, soul and body for my God! People like you, only do this for selfish reasons and call it....."life"

@therepentantmouth By saying that my words are meaningless to you you're just demonstrating how stuborn you're chosing to be. You don't care whether or not God exists, you just enjoy feeling superior over those who wont sacrifice their "mind" "soul" or "body" to your bullshit

Most of us are extremely moral, curious people who get their morality from preference, school and parents.
thisisallidobitch7 2 years ago
Its funny to have people tell you things about yourself that you personally verify (and prove) to not be true. You are actually 100% wrong, atheists are not people running from god who do not WANT to understand him.We just don't believe it exists, THAT SIMPLE. I, along with MANY atheists, would praise a god if there was ANY evidence for it existing. There are 33,000 denominations of christianity and there are millions of contradicting religions. They cant all be right, be they can all be wrong.
thisisallidobitch7 2 years ago
"The Bible is clear. It condemns these types of acts."
How can you possibly state that the Bible is clear in condemning these acts when God of the Bible orders such acts to take place?
How can you state that the Bible is clear in its condemnation when people, to this day, use the Bible as justification for subjugating and murdering others, up to and including rape, slavery and genocide?
Or, simply...how is the bible clear?

@GEERUP God condones slavery.....he could have easily said that rape was an abomination or slavery was an abomination and those who called themselves believers would have to stop, but he didnt he told them how to do it. but he does say that eatting shell fish is an abomination....hmm. maybe he just over looked slavery, and rape? it makes more sense that it was written by men who would benefit greatly by endorsing slavery.

The punishment of Adultery was death.

The punishment of sin was death but Jesus didn't offer her death he offered her life and life free from slavery of sin. That was the reason for his being here on earth.
Jesus ward off her accusers and told the woman to go and sin no more.
What kind of God is that?

of course he'll ignore it & keep rambling his nonsense...

AnonymousKnowlege 2 years ago
yeah seriously. CHRISTIANS are the ones ignoring context and cherry picking quotes to support their position.
thisisallidobitch7 2 years ago
@Zentz29
How can you give an answer to someone who has their ears plugged up?
ladyEulaelie 2 years ago
@ladyEulaelie
what in the hell are you talking about?
exodus 20: 1-3 "AND GOD SPAKE ALL THESE WORDS, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me." etc...
explain to me how the ten commandments came to be then.

The 10 commandments are infallible, unparalleled and unrivaled to the LOM...
ladyEulaelie 2 years ago
@Zentz29
You caught yourself in the first comment you wrote when you put the actual Bible verse that proved what I was saying was right,
...then you tried to twist my words....much like you do the words of the Bible, so that you could show case who you really are.
Why not let it go instead of proceeding to make yourself look like a fool by suggesting that I as a Christian don't know my Bible.
If the Bible says that God wrote the 10 commandments with his own finger that is what it means.
ladyEulaelie 2 years ago
@ladyEulaelie
i admit i screwed up a little there BUT...god DID(according to the bible) speak the commandments in exodus 20: 1-17 to moses before he wrote them in Exodus 31:18; 32:16.
anyways...i don't even know how i got trailed off onto that subject.
my point was that you said: "Just b/c an act is done in the Bible, that does not make it a justifiable act in the eyes of God"
the ACT i was talking about was DONE BY GOD HIMSELF in (2 Kings 2:23-24)
Zentz29 2 years ago
so, geerup said nobody can name a verse where god condones killing.
i gave the verse 2 Kings 2:23-24, where god kills 42 children for calling a man bald head.
you replyed saying: "just because something happens in the bible doesn't mean god condones it".
but, in the verse, it's god himself who does the killing of the children by sending 2 bears to tear them to shreds.
that was my only point to begin with.
Zentz29 2 years ago
duh, God has killed alot; remember the flood? the bible even says "theres a time to kill" He will kill many more in the future including satan not have souls tortured through out eternity.

For the point you are arguing there are a million better verses to try to use to make your reason sound more logical lol.

lets look at this again..." The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces"
he cursed them in the name of the lord, then bears mauled them.
are you really saying that the lord didn't send the bears after elisha cursed them "in the name of the lord"? LOL
