I'm having my surgery on february 7th but i'm going to the hospital one day before to get to know the staff and I hope there will be someone in my age there i can talk to.
How was the surgery to you?? When you sat the first time did it hurt much?? or when you walked, stood and woke up from surgery?? My doctor told me that i will have a lot of pain the first days so........ i'm not happy about it :P It would really help if you anwerd because i'm really scared!! And how fast did you heal?
It was great to see this! I know what if feels like to go through the surgery. I found out i had scoliosis in 2006 in year 8, and it was 40 degrees bottom and 30 up top. Then when I had the 8 hour surgery in 2009 the bottom curve was like 57 degrees and the top was 50. Im all straight now but am awaiting another procedure as im having major problems with my spinal cord now. Im glad your all fixed up! and it was great you made this for those awaiting surgery to see what its like
@ImaginaryKrystal Im so sorry for the really slow reply :( Thank you! Im glad the operation went well, Is it ok if i ask whats wrong with your spinal cord? Laura x
@bouncingmadlaura96 Thanks :) Umm its quite complicated and hard to explain but its being pressed on because of a new curve in my spine and my nerves are really screwed, giving me intense leg pains
Hey, It was great to see your journey! I had an operation in the Summer ( my curve was 76 at the top, but my bottom curve straightened itself) and I was sad to miss the holidays, can't imagine missing my Birthday though! Great that it went so well for you :)
omg laura i had no idea you had scolosi :( if id have known i would have looked after you more when you felt down at cadets :( hope all is well and nothing goes wrong with your back again :) xxx
@Niikziitah197 Good Luck! I have scoliosis too i have a 60 degree curve at my lower back... you're getting your surgery at my dad's birthday! Good Luck! Stay Strong! Let me know how u do after the surgery! I'm going to have the surgery on december i'm really scared and nervous! Don't give up! Trust in the Lord! :D
@purple12c I'll send you more information after the surgery, next week, i wish you good luck with your surgery too,...

after the surgery i'll talk to you about it...
if you need my e'mail is: nicole.silva11@hotmail.com
I'm getting a brace. But I'm terrified it won't work because I hear stories of it working for a while then the curve increases :( I hope you don't feel anymore pain though!
-molera2: The surgery isn't that bad, the dr's and nurses are great. Normally you spend about a week in the hospital, but I didn't remember the first day or two. The pain isn't that bad, mainly b/c you have alot of medicine to relive the pain. The recovery is hard, but you have to be positive and have people around to help you. Don't worry about it the surgery has been showing really great results. I had the surgery four years ago, three weeks before entering my freshmen year in high school.
Hi, im gonna have surgury soon, and i only found out i had scoliosis a litle while ago. my curves are pretty bad ( 45 on top and 70 on the bottom) Did u skip school??
and do you have any advice of what to bring tothe hospital? any random advice? also how old were u?
I was told i has scolosis this friday, the doctor said i had 20 and 30. whent to see a specialist/surgion and he took x rays and said i have 40 and 70. I m having surgury 2 weeks into my summer vacation. could you guys give me advice?
@molera2 I had a curve like you were my doctor didnt think it was bad! I skipped 3 weeks of school and then i had the 6 weeks summer vacation! I am going to upload another video soon, that might help answer some of your questions! x
@prettygirl9001 heyy! Sorry for the late reply, i am going to upload another video soon, watch that it might help. If you still have any questions then feel free to email me :) x
Hi Laura my operation is now the 24th of may which isn't another two whole weeks away because last time I ended up with the flu and bad breathing and im not going back to intermediate I will be doing school work during the morning but not the afternoons what did you do other than beeing on laptop what did you do at home to stop you beeing bored during recovrey can you please give me some ideas of what you did. thanks from Kirstie.
Hi Kirstie! When i was recovering i read a lot of books and i also used to draw a lot. I would play board games with my family and go for short walks around the corner too! Straight after my operation i slept a lot and sometimes i didnt do much in the day. I hope your operation goes well! Best wishes :) from Laura
i have just been told by my Doctor that i had 2 scoliosis i have to go for the x-rays on monday,, by the way if i have to have the surgery (which i think i have to have) does it hurt afterwards,, cos im quite scared ??
Heyy xxRebeccaLousiexx, How did your xrays go? I will be honest with you the surgery does hurt but everyday after the surgery things get easier and gradually the pains becomes less and less. You have every right to be scared, im here if you want to talk to me or ask me anything!
I am 12 years old and I had to get my surgery may 19 2009 My Scoliosis was so ad that I ended up haveing to get surgery I had 2 curves Top was 79 and bottom was 65 but because of my age and how my body was prossecing We had to wait after 4 months we went back It got much worse when we got back my spine ended up to be 89 and 73 So we couldnt wait any longer. Because of how cricked my spine was the doctors could not get it perfectly straight so now my curves are 25 and 12
Im sorry to hear that your curves were so big! That must of been really painful for you. My top curve got to about 60 and my surgeon managed to get it down to 15 and i still have the bottom curve which is about 20 so dont worry that your spine is not totally straight, its an amazing improvement from before! :)
No way! i found out i had scolosis in october 2008 when i was in year 8. and i had my operation in year 9, 1 say before you did! on the 2nd of july! thats weirddd.
Im doing ok thanks, i keep getting sharp pains in my back but hopefully they will go away soon. Im sorry to hear about your top curve getting worse! I hope your hospital appointment goes well, please keep me updated :)
aww i hope they do go away soon. i just came back from my appointment and they said its looking alright so i just have to go back in 6 months to see how its going then. also i made a video about my operation. can you please comment it :)
Hey lovely! This is an awesome video. It is very well done with lots of useful information for people who may be about to have the op. You dealt with all the lines so well - they don't hurt much but I have a HUGE needle phobia and so was just about screaming every time they tried to take one out or put one in!! Your one brave young lady and your positivity is so great :-)
Heyy! Thank you for your lovely comment :) I had a phobia of needles but now im kind of used to it! I made a video because i want to be able to turn the negative situation into a positive by being able to help people, so its really nice to get good feed back. Thank you
hello (: Was just wondering if i could have your email address? my cousin is soon having her operation and i would like to get some information on it? thank you xx
I knew I had scoliosis when I was 16 and I was introduced to wear braces. I just did my surgery 2 days ago and it was good! I finally got up and standing today. It felt weird though. xD I had two curves just like you. :D Upper part is 50 something and lower part is 46? I didn't really have any pain but only muscle cramp.
hello twoh3arts! Im glad your surgery went well and that your recovery is going well too :D if you feel you want any advice on your continued recovery then feel free to contact me! Good luck, my thoughts are with you.
My name is Eva, I'm an Spanish girl and I had scoliosis surgery at the end of November. I'm 24 years old, and I'm writing here because I want to tell PongoOng that it's not too late if you need surgery!! My recover is going slower than younger people, maybe because I'm not that young but still not too bad. I got up 3 days after the operation, and went home on day 6. I've used a brace for 2 months now, which makes me feel safer, as it makes my back to stay straight.
ran out of carachters!! next wednesday I'm going to the doctor for the first time since the surgery, and I hope he will take my brace out, so I can start normal life.
I'm really happy about my surgery; it was painful during the first week, because I had morphine just during the first day, but I can not remember about the pain, as everything went perfect, and that makes you remember just good things and feelings :)
hello Eva, thanks for your comment, im so glad your recovery is going well and I hope you get out of your brace soon! I don't remember the pain I felt either. Your English is fine too! :)
I also have scoliosis but I'm 21. I know its probably too late for me to get anything fixed but I never realized it could affect me long term wise. I am raised in a family where we knew nothing about scoliosis. I found out in my senior year in high school that I had scoliosis but I never did anything about it. I regret not taking action. This video was great by the way. I wished I had that opportunity.
Laura, Hi my name is Delaney and i have scoliosis. I had a very bad curve. I had surgery in May. I know how hard it is, i was in your shoes. Someimes you want to give up. You dont want to get up for the first time, walk for the first time, or eat. It is really hard. This video reminded me of my scoliosis journey. It has been six months since my surgery and i had a appointment with my back specialist not even a week ago! I hope your recovery went well. Thanks for reading this.
Thank you very much for your comment! I can relate to everything you have said. Im glad your doing well! Thank you for taking the time to watch my video. Best wishes, Laura.
My daughter also has scoliosis " S " shape (Twisted Spine), I found out when she was 12 now she is 15, doctor gave her brace n she must wear it for 24/7 but she always cried because so much pain, she got red n bruises on her skin ,she dont want to wear it anymore, I try not crying in front of her but my heart shattering everyday. Must be expensive to have surgey in America like yours n I can't afford it . I'm happy for you. Best wishes.
Hi my name is Katie and I had scoliosis surgery on January 13th this last year. I am sorry to hear you and your daughter are having such a hard time with her bracing. The best trick I found for the brace was wearing SEAMLESS undergarments underneath the brace. This way I never felt the brace on my skin and it didn't press any seams into my skin. I got seamless boy shorts and cammies at Target. Maybe that could help. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Never give up,~Katie
Rellenalove, Thank you for watching my video. Im sorry to hear about your daughter. I never had to wear a brace so I can't really understand what your daughter is going through with her brace but as Scoliogirl13 said seamless undergarments might help your daughter. You must feel so upset having to see your daughter in so much pain and you know that you can't really help her. Thank you for being happy for me.
Sorry i ran out of characters: I wish I could help you more. Your welcome to contact me again if you want to ask me any questions or if you just want to share your worries with me. Best wishes, I really do hope things get better for you and your daughter. Stay strong. Laura.
Thanks for being my freind online. I got my month and year for when I go up to Starship Hospital for surgrey yeasterday I am supose to now go up on Janurary next year.
heyy laura! Im sorry to hear about your curve. How many degrees is it? Are you having the surgery? I hope things go well. You can talk to me if you want any advise or to ask any questions. Best wishes. Laura x
I loved your video and hope you make a nice recovery over the following months.I know its physically and mentally draining the surgery , im 9 days post op and had a few complications which will make my recovery slower. Its well worth having surgery because the results were amazing for me!! I had a 43 and 52 curve before surgery and now there both 10 !! :D
Brilliant Video Laura. Thanks for the mention! Finally this is the end of a long journey for both of us! Btw your so preety in the first picture! Your eyes are so blue!
Hey Laura! Great job on your movie! It looks fantastic!! I really feel like I know you are your journey so great job!! Thank you so much for crediting me! You are so sweet! Thank you for talking to me because I love helping other Scoliosis patients!
I'm sorry you had to go through all this but I'm glad you are keeping a positive outlook and had such supportive friends, family and nurses! Isn't it amazing how there is always someone there at the right time?? Keep healing! ~Katie :)
Thank you :) im really glad that i found someone to talk to that knows what im going through because some people dont understand.... its not just physical pain its mental aswell because you can hardly do anything for ages and that upset me to start with but its getting easier now! Thank you again for helping me.. we must stay in touch Laura x
Definitely! I totally understand you! I was prepared to handle everything that happened the first couple weeks. Then I had some REALLY great days and the next day I had pain I got upset becuase I guess I thought that I wouldn't have anymore problems. I mean I knew it wasn't like a switch and now I'm done recovering but I didn't "know" if you know what I mean... It is a longer recovery but you are able to do more things every day! Never forgot those little things you earned every bit of them
Hey I ran out of characters! Anyways, I will never forget when I figured out how to kneel to pick a dropped sock of the floor! I was so excited!!! Sometimes you just need to know yourself and not worry about what anyone else thinks because noone, not even other scoliosis patients will fully understand how you feel all the time becuase everyone's journey is SO different! I mean it's the same surgery but I doubt we've all felt the same things! Anyways, never give up and talk to me anytime!
i cry when i watch your video Laura, and we had the same surgeon xxx

My name is Eva, I'm an Spanish girl and I had scoliosis surgery at the end of November.

Hey Laura!
