@quelita28 believe it or not dolphins play a vital role in ship security when they are docked or anchored in foreign waters. They are like the German Sheppard's of the sea. They are trained to tag swimmers or small boats that come with in a approximate distance of their ship with a strobe/gps tag and report back to their handlers. The Navy are never used to deal with live ordinance.
To enter in touch with a dolphin, it is something that to the animal it affects him very much, since in his nature, one does not think with human beings that he touches, for loq ue it him can bring very serious diseases of skin.
you are right in saying that the animals don't understand the situations they are in at times, and the idea of using animals in such situations is controversial i'll agree with that. However, at the same time it is a tactic whether its the best or not.
saying that the dolphin is "happy" being apart of the US Navy is probably one of the craziest things I have heard in a long time. When the dolphin is trained to retrieve missiles and look for mines... they don't have an understanding that they can get potentially killed!
@iberry They don't retrieve anything. They mark their general location and then PEOPLE go get the unexploded ordinance. The animals NEVER touch the mines. The only things they do touch (and the dolphins don't even do it, the sea lions do) are the dummy mines that are used for training purposes. The animals lives are NEVER in danger.
If an animal was not happy or in any discomfort, they would simply refuse to not be involved with any training sessions. Using these animals is NOT cowardly, it is rather clever.
the dolphin is happy, u will know when a dolphin is not happy they wont do what u tell them to when they arent happy. that dolphin is very content with what its doing because its in the care of its trainers
Dolphins and whales have a slit near their tail. Females have this slit, plus two smaller ones on either side. The smaller slits contain their mammary glands, which is where their babies get their milk.
The Navy does not use dolphins' sonar anymore, which is good.
The only thing is that they are still used to find mines,I always wonder
if they are taken out to sea when there is a war. I would be afraid that
they can get hurt if there is shooting going on. I think the researcher
Naomi Rose has been defending whales and dolphins for a long time.
I hope she brings this topic to discussion someday so something can
be done about it.

Using innocent dolphin for that purpose is purely evil.

They can stay on land for a lot longer than you think.
If the dolphin was in any discomfort so bad to bother it, all he has to do is simply refuse to slide out.
You cannot MAKE these animals do anything they dont want to do.

How can you tell if the dolphin is male or a female?
Also has this animal ever bitten or hurt a person
or another dolphin?
