Omg this is absolutely fantastic! Thank you sooo much OP for uploading this, you're truly marvelous! Benny's voice is delicious,Its voiceporn! Baritone, husky yet velvety. Smooth and at times it sounds like a deep guttural growl.Pretty soon he'll be narrating everything imaginable! He's our generations Morgan Freeman lol He'll take his place when he passes on.
I am sooo happy that this story is read with enough humor. I liked the story a fairly bit when read in school but now I really enjoy it. Maybe it's also 'cause of the translation in english that it is not as dull as in german. But I really love this. Thanks for giving me the chance to listen to it!
I can't understand English very well and in fact I missed almost every word he said. But I could not stop listening to him even if I don't understand a shit. The entonation is just magical.
this is the only book I have ever bought then read ...and then burned ... SO.HORRIBLE.... I was in 11th grade ... // but honestly... if he had read it to me back then- I would have framed the friggin thing!
Not to cheapen the perfection of this reading, but I swear there are SO many moments in this which can be chopped and edited and turned into extreme dirty talk;D
I love Benedict's voice and thought I'd enjoy anything he read but..let's say Kafka is not my cup of tea..we were forced to read him on high school 'cause he was one of our few worldwide known authors and reading his work is like a nightmare to me-don't get me wrong I love reading and enjoy a wide range of different gendres and authors but I never really understood why Kafka is so admired..but perhaps I'll listen to this and turn my brain off so I will only get Benedict's voice and not the sense
@905118 that's exactly what I think about Kafka :) People in Germany and - probably - elsewhere seem to love him - a fact I will never understand, although I am from Germany. I just think he was a crazy and insane wimp who could never bear up against his father. Anyway, great voice, Ben!
Benedict Cumberbatch AND Kafka? Already, now I am absolutely sure that I have died and gone to heaven. Now he'll only have to learn German and read the original, but I guess I'd die from a heart attack then ... again. ♥
Benny's voice is absolutely DYNAMIC!! I love how he can change his voice at the drop of a pin and do such smooth transitions/pauses. He is a master at this and I bet he'd be a kickass father reading bedtime stories to his children! :)
You think this is audio velvet... try listening to his Ode to a Nightingale (John Keats). Any Cumberbatch fan will be reduced to puddles. Splosh :o)

In case anyone was wondering, the intro music was taken from Tom Waits' Swordfishtrombones album. Go ahead, give it a spin. 's A good album.
Also, good to hear Cumberbatch bringing out the black comedy in this piece. People tend to take Kafka far too seriously.

This is not fair. I HATE Kafka (being German I was forced to read The Process in school) but I love Benedict and his voice. What should I do?!

He said "cumbersome". When he started saying it I was genuinely surprised it didn't end in "batch".
Also, this man should read every audio book ever made from now on.
But he should also carry on screen acting because, his face.

@jophido Me too. I read this comment immediately when he said cumbersome and I was a little confused myself for a moment.
