  • JAJAJAJ y yo termine viendo un video de como pronunciar la r y si yo ablo español como llege aki lol

  • Your Spanish is so good, I thought it was you first language! -.- I am Guatemalan and know very little Spanish. How long did it take you to learn Spanish?

  • It doesn't with mine because I have Ankyloglossia. I wanted to learn Spanish too, looks like I'm screwed.

  • @WatashiwaRaiandesu lo siento,

  • english people saying the American pronounciation of butter is really hard. It tooks months to get Americans to understand what I wanted when i went into a sandwish shop

  • You're getting there. Just make sure the tip of your tongue is tapping your alveolar ridge! And relax your lips.

  • i keep saying put it on fast all it sounds like is prom :(

  • Muchos gracias ;D !!

  • @xpiratekittyy It is "muchas gracias" not muchos. :)

  • I can do short Rs correctly, but not rolled Rs yet. I learned so much from just the first minute of your video alone! You're so informative. Thank you for the upload

  • I hate my tounge I have a retainer and my "friends" are making fun of me but thanx anyway :'(

  • Spanish R is not that hard... French R is kinda stupid(no offence)... English R is weird (admit it ¬¬).... but can somebody explain what the fuck with German R?? D:

  • @mariguanetor German R is with the throat too

  • @NeccoWecco yeah I know but it doesn't sound the same as French R

  • @mariguanetor Chinese has a similar "r" to English too. :D

  • @mariguanetor but I think the Spanish "r" is kind of weird too...it's too strong even for other languages that roll their r's!

  • Had it within the first five seconds of the put it on method. Thanks!

  • especially "perro" but as I've got this far in 2 days it shouldn't take long! All this practicing has given me a bit of a sore throat though! I'm feeling really enthusiastic about learning Spanish now. Thank you! :) (sorry for such a long comment!!!)

  • ...then the dRacula method, then the "tee dee va" method. 2 hours of trying yielded nothing! I then found out that my parents could do it and they tried teaching me. Nothing! Then I found this video and "Put it on" has made my tongue vibrate after an hour of practice! :) I'm not perfect, but I can growl, purr, and do the brrr brrr phone ringing sound! I couldn't do any of that before! Now I've got to get my Spanish words working. I'm finding it quite hard to put the trill and words together, es

  • Just wanted to say thank you for your video. It's worked for me! I learnt Spanish at high school, but didn't do very well although it's a language I really like and enjoy speaking. I failed 3 more times to learn it since as I always gave up as I couldn't roll my R's. This time I decided to look on the Internet for some guidance on how to do it and practice for a month. If I couldn't do it by then it wasn't meant to be! Yesterday I started trying to do it via the "butter" method, then the dRacul

  • very informative and educational.. I am a fluent Spanish speaker, but I am having trouble teaching my child how to do the trill. I am going to have him practice these techniques and will let you know how he did later.

  • I must really suck at understanding cause i still no good :(

  • @gladys734 No. You just need to relax and repeat the words, butter, butter, butter, put it on put it on put it on. Notice where your tongue hits. Repeat the words and then read a paragraph in Spanish aloud.

  • woo hoo and Brrrrravo!

  • YOU ARE A FREAKIN GENIUS!!!!!

I have watched so many videos and asked so many people and still couldnt do it bt the 'put it on' trick worked straight up. Thank you so much for uploading this video :D

  • hello! thanks for your video. i can now pronounce "put itititit on" and "derrrrrr". But the problem is i have to start with a "d" sound to start rolling. so it would be like "derraaaa, derreeeee" something like that. can you help me to get rid of that D sound? thanks

  • omg! i actually managed to somewhat pronounce the "rr" sound! i have NEVER EVER been able to! will totally practice more! thanks for uploading this video xD

  • brrrrava!

  • Omg, im amazed :o 4 minutes and 23 second ago i made a "tttthhh" sound, now it actually sounds okay :D (and im in a trance just walking around saying butter and put it on :P)

  • PUT IT ON!,,,, it works!!!

  • gracias!

  • Very helpful! Is it still possible to pronounce even if you are missing a front tooth?

  • I wish you could be my Spanish teacher! Out of all videos for rolling R's, yours has been the most helpful! Thank you!

  • I has never on the 15 years of life beign able to pronouence the "rr" maybe the worst is that im mexican, but now i know how to practice the sound, thanks!, and sorry but i didnt understand the word that you said right before the ending for placing the tonge for the "rr"

  • yaaaaaaaaaay this helped me so much! i still can't get it brilliantly but i'm so much closer, i just need more practise! thank you!

  • 6 flaps are goooood! "put it on" is so you can roll your r's for words like cigarro, rapido, etc. "butter" is to help you with regular r as in toro, pero, libro etc.

  • Very good advice with the "put it on" thing. It's just that when I do it, my tongue "flaps" like 6 times instead of just the 2. How can I remedy this?

  • "Put it on" is some of the best advice I've found! I still can't make the trill last more than a second or two, but it's a huge improvement over what I had before. Thanks so much!

  • Still can't get it. :-(

  • SOUND WOULD BE NICE

  • Thank you SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO much I looked everywhere for people to help me but i didnt understand them but you helped me so super much thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wahhhhhhhhh! I still can't get it. I think I have a speaking disability or something.

  • Very nice! I actually learned to trill from a Ruffles potato chips ad way back when. ...but it was interesting learning the actual physiological motions I go through in pronouncing the Spanish r.

  • @ChaoticYak haha! Ruffles have Ridges?

  • @amieberkos1 That's the one! :) I practiced until I could do it.

  • No hablo español,pero I want to pronunce the R. I still praticing it's dificult for me.

    However, thanks your video:)

  • saying "butter" really is the secret! I finally discovered how to do the tap correctly after repeating "paddle tattle maria" a few times. Still working on trill.

  • Amie, Bravo!! I loved this lovely educational video, and it was plenty loud enough for me! I always have problems making the Spanish "RRrrrr" sound, as correctly & as beautifully as you do… but maybe now if I follow your great suggestions, I can do it.

(I just need to practice in the morning, as everyone's asleep right now!)

  • ummmmmmmmmm, the RR .....it's still sounds quite weird. maybe if you put your tongue a little bit to the back , just a little, to the back, will sound better. The single R sounds ok. . I'm a native spanish speaker and I can feel the difference :)

  • fabuloso!

  • Thanks! I Watched like 10 videos and found nothing so useful except for this one!

I like that "put it on" one it works! i am trying it right now and i am getting there!!

    Thanks Alot!

  • This is the BEST video about trills. Thanks for your thoroughness.

  • Practicing "put it on" is the best advice I've found in hours of searching the internet. Thank you so much.

  • thank you :)

  • Wow this lady is amazing. She saved me hundreds on a personal coach!!

  • Helpful but the sound is really low. I turned it up loud but still had trouble hearing it.

  • @kaymerryweather I know. I should re-do it.

  • Wow I barely saw this video like two minutes ago and I am already kinda making a trilled r:) thank you so much(:

  • @Lababoo1 brava!

  • I can't just do it..its so frustrating.. I been trying so many ways, such as exercising my tongue. I been trying to make this sound for at lessst 2 years now. Thanks for the help though on your words, "put it on", however, when you say it, as a result, do you have to be like "puttiton" on something like that. i dont get what you mean on this part? I have a retainer in my mouth right now, so would that make any difference?how about a speech impediment. if this helps im a canadian english speaker

  • @spiral4015 yes, maybe remove the retainer and when you say "putiton" relax and let the tip of your tongue start tapping

  • ugh.... It's funny, my whole family can pronouce the spanish "R" very easy, but I can't! I felt better when my dad couldn't either, but it still made me frustrated that I couldn't trill or anything. So I gave up and did the french R instead, and found it very easy to roll it! But since this is totally different, I'll need some practice.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try them out.

  • Hola! I'm from Taiwan. I'm a beginner in Spanish and I've been practicing the ''butter'' and ''put it on'' for a while. And I found them really helpful that I finally managed to trill a little bit. :D Yeeah! Though I still can't control them very well, I'm very excited about that. I'll keep practicing. Thank you so much! Gracias!

  • I am from Germany and most people I know can roll the "r" but I kinda do it in the back of the throat... (or well the french "r" like you call it.) It still doesn't work for me but I keep practising...

  • @mizzrammstein *practicing

    :)

  • @TOBIdoesntNEEDaHUG I thought you can write it with an "s" too... ?

  • @mizzrammstein Oh, I'm sorry. You can. That's the English way. :)

  • Hi amieberkos1! This video is brilliantly helpful. Good on you for going to this trouble, and for helping so many people in the process. I've been living in Spain for the past 3 years, and, although I no longer encounter difficulties with the language, I still often find that pronouncing the r's can prove frustratingly difficult. This happens especially with certain letter combinations, such as, 'ropa', 'europa'. And the 'rr' sound, ni te cuento. Haha thanks again for this brilliant video!

  • Thank you for this tutorial! I already managed to trill my tongue with "put it on", but I can't do it without a "p" at the beginning :/ Do you know how to change that?

  • @jazzna good job! buen trabajo! have a list of "rr" words ready to try out once you get your tongue in the right position and going! rapido, hierro, ferrocarril, perro, Ramon, barro, berro, arroz, Rosa, tierra, etc!

  • In spanish there are some people specially in Argentina and Chile who pronounce "RR" as the ř in czech (Just listen to singer Mercedes Sosa)...

  • Wow, thanks for the video! Can you also practise it while you're whispering? Most of the time I'm with my family, so I can't really say often 'put it on'. Thank you so much for your video!

  • Thank you very much for posting this! It's much more helpful than the videos that just tell you to "purrrr."

I can briefly feel my tongue flap when I do the "put it on" exercise. How do I get from there to being able to trill continuously?

  • @adam071 Good job. It's not a purrr. Keep practicing "put it on" with relaxed mouth and lips and move into "erre con erre cigarro, erre con erre barril, rapido corren los carros, carros del ferrocarril!"

  • Comment removed

  • the "butter" and "put it on" example only work if you're an American English speaker... :( You see, where I'm from we don't pronounce our t's as if they were d's....

  • @Crealosa . That's true. I created my lesson for American English speakers. Where are you from? What do you speak? How can I help you? It is still a physical phenomenon: tip of the tongue on the flesh right above the back of your front teeth, once for single R, with burst of air or vibration for the double R.

  • @amieberkos1

Well I'm British, brought up just south of London. Here we pronounce the "tt" in "butter" just like the "T" in "Thomas", and the same goes for puT and iT. I guess I'm just a good imitator, because actually don't have any problems with the single flap or trilled R. But thank you so much for the wonderful video! I know some friends who could benefit from it.

  • I always run out of air to continue the "Put it on" part and make it fast enough...

  • @ByrdieFae Take a deep breath and keep starting over. Eventually your words slur and the tip of your tongue is tapping out the rrrrr!

  • Ahh, it worked!! I learned! To think I'd never learn. Spanish 2 I'm going to kick your butt in pronunciation!

  • OMG you're so good

  • @cartsada I know that japanese and spanish do have a lot of similar sounds, especially the pure vowels. thanks for your comment, glad i could help

  • Great explanation on the difference between vowels and consonants and how to roll the Spanish r.

  • That's awesome!

  • when you put your tongue to the top of your mouth to form the spanish r it is most like the english sound in the middle of the word "butter"

  • So, when you put your tongue to the top of your mouth, what English consonant should you be trying to say? Is it more like an English d or an English r? I can sometimes do a double r by trying to make a d sound. Is the single r the same?

  • good video...I still can't do it though. I've only been learning Spanish for a month though...maybe that has more to do with it than anything.

  • je ne parle pas francais!

  • your french is bad :P sorry

  • english R is still a consonant since you roll your tongue to push that sound out

if R's like vowel then L, H, F, S, N, and the like are all like vowels

  • I disagree totally. say "rabbit, radar, rear" even when it's surrounded by other consonants "start, fresh, first" your tongue does not touch any other physical part of your mouth or teeth or lips as with L or F or S or N. H is a different story; it is characterized by a force of air.

  • your claim may be valid for american english but i speak british english and r is hardly pronounced unless it glides through the next vowel, in which case i reckon it a consonant

  • Well yes, British English is quite different than American English, isn't it? The reason I made the video is because American English speakers have difficulty with the Spanish r because they are accustomed to pronouncing their r's as more of a vowel than a consonant, i.e. no physical obstruction in the mouth to interrupt the air flow.

  • I love spanish language and especially how mexicans speak it jajajaja I gotta lot of mexicans friends and Im learning spanish language too

  • hey thanks this really helped me!!

  • Jajajajaja i'm from Argentina, is rare to see this video becasue this R is so normal for me :)

Good luck with the practice of R :)

    (Sorry, i'm not speaking english)

  • @sofiig92 Haha, it feels sad that I spend so long learning something like this.

  • @sofiig92 Me pregunto si van a tener problemas las personas que viajen a Argentina, me imagino por lo de la Y, ah y de las personas que vayan a España por lo de los verbos.

  • I can only say it for a second or two but I can't continuously do it :[

  • Thanks so much! Please upload more if you can, this was very useful!

  • im from german and i try to learn spanish^^ its soo hard to make this r! thank you for this video, i will keep practicing and i hope one day im able to do it:)

  • Keep it up! just pronounce RRRRRRRRRRR over and over.

  • Thankyou! Finally a serious attempt to teach that rolling R! Your advices are really good. At least I'm now able to do that single one flat, but I just can't master the trill. My tongue is not able to flutter behind my teeth to produce that RRRR. It doesn't work even after having practised with the words "put it on" like you did it.

I think my tongue is simply not flexible enough. Could that be possible?

  • keep practicing "put it on" and relax your lips and mouth!

  • It's really really useful!

    Muchas gracias!
