online communities r reall good cuz on facebook u can intereact with old freinds and even make some new ones at the same time. in general u need to be careful at wat kinda info u put on u're page. other than that is good to reconnect with other ppl.
regarding online communities, just like everything else in life theres pros and cons. Generally I feel its better to interact with people face to face but online communities allow you to meet people you might never get to meet in real life.
