Having MAINTAINED the planes, I can say I'd rather be DRINKING from a can made from one of these Pigs than working on a C-141. I still can't wait ot see the C-5's in my Fridge. Fingers crossed.
I always fid it Ironic that air frames like the 141 are often replaced by another airframe that is almost a direct copy, yet has quieter and lower emission engines why not repower the older airframe with the newer engines..... it would be far less costly and fr less wase of energy nd rescources
I was a Flt. Eng. at CAFB 41st MAS and all of us , even the ground crews loved this lady. I flew the A&B models and I can tell you that after 14 yrs in SAC (,B-58 &KC 135 crew chief),flying for MAC was a dream come true. I miss it every day.
It truly does break my heart. I served on the C-141 at both Norton AFB and McGuire AFB as a navigator, and I was very proud of our mission and the Starlifter. It was a true workhorse, I will remember those days fondly!
I think there should be some sort of law passed in the US, providing for the preservation of historically/techologically important warbirds. Let's say that if every US state should receive 1 example of each retired aircraft type for a local museum, scores of warbirds would be saved! Besides, this would enable more people to see these wonderful machines without travelling huge distances!
7AS/4AS pilot. Had to stop watching half way through. Those birds carried me safely through over 2500 flight hours. Loved flying airdrop/Red Flag/etc. Always amazing what we could accomplish.
I was sure sad to see the demise of the c-141 in this film. As an Air Cargo specialist at Charleston AFB, I actually cried when I saw this video. I It was a sweet plane to load plan, and I spent many hours flying as a cargo person in the plane. When I go to Google earth to the boneyard and seeing thm in stages of chop up, it just seems sad, and oh some of the stories those old birds could tell. It was appropriate that the last C-141 deactivated was the Hanoi Taxi go to the Muesem.

c 141 turns into a mobifone.something with even less worth and more so disposable.Talk about an anti-climax.
such is the circle of life.
