The key to the flu shot is 2 fold.

It does have the chance of getting you sick right away, but it creates a planned sick time, so you can take it on friday after work.

If you wait for the flu itself that infects 10s to hundreds of thousands of unvaccinated yearly, you can screw over your whole week, your paycheck.

The second is, it creates an immunity so if you come into contact with the flu later, you do not become the carrier.
