Great cover as ever, the best version on Youtube so far. I would really love a lesson of this, if possible, i mean, it's the most famous Rolling Stones track and i'm still figuring out how to play it in perfect Keith style. Greatings from Italy.
@nostalgiaramanny I think the correct combination includes Keith Richards' limitless talent, a decent guitar, an experienced recording engineer, an inventive producer, and a multi-million-dollar recording studio. That would probably get you pretty close.
@nostalgiaramanny The late Brian Jones played that fuzztone riff on a Vox guitar with a Fuzztone Box...........You can hear that same tone in David Bowie's song Fashion.
@jacopman That's the first time I've ever heard anybody say Brian played the main riff. Even Keith himself says he played it. Whenever they did it live back in the Brian Jones period, Brian always strummed the chords and Keith did the riff.
Which settings did you dial your guitar and amp's tone and volume knobs to in order to get this tone? And which pickup are you using? (Again, thank you so much for all your feedback!!!)
This guitar looks very similar to James Burton's famous pink guitar he used alot with Elvis Presley live. Is it in anyway the same one? Coz it sounds SO good
For awhile there I thought you were probably a famous guitarist, then I saw your face in your Led Zeppelin-10 years gone cover, fun while it lasted, your still the greatest guitarist I've ever seen on YouTube. :)
I have a williams audio tone bender mk11, you should check it out, it's the best sounding sola sound copy I have ever heard. I use it a lot sounds great on this song for sure.
pt iv been watchin ur covers 4 a pretty long time and i have to say ur covers blow all the others right out the water!one question though what your amp setting(if u can remember!)
I would like to ask a couple of questions about technique in here .. I have the main comp down after watching you do it. On the songs main riff, you seem to damp the strings twice after the B note, 5th str, 2nd fret .. am I getting that correctly? You're using your pinky where I might use my ring finger ... personal style or technical reason .. if you could comment on these points I would appreciate it .. this section of the song has escaped me for years.. thanks to you I now have it.
@pyrsconr .. the first time you do it is at the 7 second mark .. but you do it consistently when playing the main riff .. you play the B note with index finger twice and appear to damp, (with the other 3 fingers), twice ... before moving to C# and D ... or is that just hand motion from pulling a bit ...
@pyrsconr I'm actually muting it purposely. If you listen, Keith stops that B note dead most times he plays that main riff, and he only lets it sustain a couple of times through the song. Of course, I didn't bother to memorize when he stops it dead and when he lets it ring!
@privettricker Ok .. that's great .. I am trying that but all I hear is my finger banging on strings ... more practice .. the pinky thing .. personal style or technical reason ...
@pyrsconr The pinky thing is personal style. I do some fingerings differently than most players. Heck, I don't even do fingerings the same way every time.
I remember when this song first hit the radio. It was so cool with the nasty fuzz riff and rough lyrics. The surf tones too were so cool. It is still the most thrilling song I've ever heard. It is the song that instantly made me love the guitar and rock n roll. I think I was 5 or 6 years old! To this day I can still feel that excitement I felt when I was a kid. Like your first beer or girlfriend.
Dude, I could watch this video a thousand times and then watch it again and be completely satisfied. You hit Keef's tone on the head and you do mad justice to those licks in the verses. Kudos chief.
great job man.......and to the guy asking what model Telecaster he is playing it is a "Paisley Telecaster".......Rock on Dude and thanks for the lessons too !!!!!
@MrPaTko1 I dont want to be rude, but THATS QUITE OBVIOUS. I mean i wanted to know the model of the Fender telecaster. If you guys need some help searching for it, i also found a guy playin it in an Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison video here it is --->|| w w w . you tube . c o m/ watch?v=v3T-7Xno4PE&feature=BFp&list=WL7A415176E3D177EE&index=47 || THANKS VERY GRATEFUL FOR HELP!
Outstanding! That's the sound! Yes, if you have the time would you be willing to do a lesson for this? You really have nailed it. The ''turn-around'' parts are really excellently done and dead on. Correct reverb sound too! Thank you for this!
Could you do a lesson of this? Everyone knows the standard riff, but I'd love to see a slowed down version which shows all the other licks he does throughout the song. Tab online never shows it.
u play by ear right? i play this by ear too cause every single tab is completely wrong lol...but to me..that part at 0:37 that u played...on the recording...doesnt in sound like a chord to u? i play an A chord on that part...i just love the verses in this song with that reverb and stuff...just dying to find out exactly what keith played lol
@ScullyboyDX This one just uses the gain on the amp. I tried it with a tube screamer, but I couldn't get a tone anything like Keith's so I kind of gave up and maxed the reverb (which is crucial to early Stones recordings).
@privettricker I am truly amazed at the diversity of styles you are able to perform flawlessly. You have the gift....If I could still play, I would give an arm to play like you.
Since you have done some James Taylor before, how about "There's something in the way she moves" which I consider one of his most moving songs, and I have never been able to really figure it out?
@luisgarcia28 --"Something" is George Harrison's Magnus Opus! The Beatles Abbey Road Album, circa 1970. Frank Sinatra called it one of the most beautiful songs ever composed.
