Is that why the Radbaz measures his dimensions of the Azarah from the dome? How could it be? I don't know. Maybe the same way idols were set up in the holy of holies? Maybe the same way a pig was sacrificed on the altar?

BTW, I never claimed his assertion was shaky. I only claimed that his source for the Rambam visiting the Temple mount was shaky and misquoted at that.

Now I'll say it. Not one credible archaeologist gives any credence to this idea. Not Rittmeyer, Barkai, Billig, nor Reich.

Simply stated, the reason why none of the aforementioned archaeologists know about this idea is because they all agree upon the same (centralist) theory. What we have here is a more obscure (renaissance) theory...

He seems to set a lot of stock in the idea that the Rambam entering the dome of the rock is proof that the dome isn't the site holy of holies.

1. His source is very shaky.

2. In that source, it is never mentioned even once that the Rambam entered the holy of holies. What it says is that he entered the great and holy house and prayed there. In the Rambam's day, the entire temple mount was called "The House". See the writings of the Radbaz on the subject.

With respect to the ("shaky") assertions, there are several sources, including the Radbaz, who indeed question in the strongest of terms (Chptr #639) how it is possible that a non-Jewish/foreign place of worship could be built on the spot of the Holy of Holies. Further, the Radbaz himself surmizes that the fact that the Dome is located where it is, is actually a proof that the Temple must have been situated elsewhere, i.e. - further to the southwest.

When they pray in Jeruselm they turn their behinds towards Temple mount and the Dome of the rock .

On the Temple mount they play soccer and have picnics .

Jerusalem (Al Quds) is never mentioned in the Quran .
