"Hello I'm Craig T. Nelson. You might remember me from my old TV show "Coach"." - Colin Mochrie's Craig T. Nelson impression on Who's Line Is It Anyway because he couldn't think of anyone else.
This was paired with MNF in season seven (1994-1995). With Monday Night Football airing live nationwide, one station on the West Coast, KOMO in Seattle, Washington, had to air Coach on Saturday afternoons that year. Ratings suffered all through the West Coast, which prompted Coach to leave Mondays after season seven.
My parents had completely disparate tastes in TV and movies, but they both agreed that this was a great show, and I really enjoyed it too. My favorite character was Bill Fagerbaake's character. He was so hilarious!! And I liked that Shelley Fabares was on this; as a little kid I grew up listening to oldies and her "Johnny Angel" was one of my favorite songs. And yay for Craig T. Nelson!
I love this show! The episode where Luther and Hayden trashed Christine's apartment. The grape juice, oven fire, broken door jamb, is a total crackup. The episode where they went skiing and Stuart made a pest of himself is one of my faves too.
Liked the show much less during the Florida episodes and the 'we want a baby' episodes.
i loved this show and its theme ,it used to cheer me up ,god knows why i HATE american football , while im here can someone tell me why you yanks call it football when they run carrying the ball in there hands ??????? you should call it handball .
@SIRSMITH08 I suppose it's one of those questions akin to "Why do we drive on the parkway and park in a driveway". Me, I call American football "hand egg". =P
@SIRSMITH08 No way we're changing it now. Plus the foot is very much involved in our game. You need your foot to make a field goal or to punt. Yes, even to avoid/outrun/catch other players. So there you go. We see your point. But it ain't changing anytime soon. And to "handball"? No way. The "National Handball League"? Too wimpy. Plus it would get confused with the NHL we already have. LOL
@DJRckwl If you pick up the ball and run with it ,whats wrong with calling it RUGBY like the rest of the world does ? lol ,we have american football on our tv every sunday night here in the uk , i dont know why nobody watches it ,? HOWEVER we used to have MLBaseball on late on in the night and it had a massive following , but they stopped showing it ,go work that out ! British tv is crap we need american shows to cheer us up .lol
Hey California9, I remember that episode. I think it was when they were coaching the pro team in Florida. It happened on Coach's BBQ grill. LOL! That damb Luther! LOL How about the one where Luther spills grape juice on Christene's white carpet! How can you not love this show,....wish they would put it on TVLand.
Jerry Van Dyke made this show. Im still looking for the episode where he sues the coach when he burns his mouth on i think its a piece of sausage. "Disabled!!!"
@California9 Or when he quits the college after an argument, only to end up working at a 'Mr Putz' Goofy Golf range. Two elderly ladies who want to hire the course try to catch his attention by shouting "Woohoo! Putz! Hey Putz!". ROFL
@TheDudeYouHateToMeet my god dude me and you both!! just hearing the theme song made me know to grab the remote to change quick! lmfao!! Good thing they only showed this crap late at night! hahaha!
Great show! One of the best episodes was when Hayden agreed to go on the talk show to talk about his low sperm count. He only agreed because she said other guys would be on with him with the same problem....Doh, they were all nerds and when the camera went to his introduction he called himself Chuck!....lol
@radigity I still remember that episode vividly! The most hilarious scene was when everyone found out about it because the thing he wore in his pants EXPLODED lol!
yea, i'd say early to mid 90s.. I'm only 22, and I only remember this show because it was on late when I was younger. I'd wake up middle of the night to this song because I always left the tv on.. I'm surprised you dont remember it much more than me, lol..
I'm 30 since my last post LOL Turned 30 in January. If this was on TV in the early to mid 90's, I was ages 10 to 16. Funny. I also used to watch a little of it late night before falling asleep. I couldn't watch the whole thing because I had school in the morning.
He was, but ultimately I think his antics started to get old during the professional Florida years. I think the episode about the hot meat lawsuit was him at the worst.
But I think another factor contributed -- first, they brought back the Burleighs. Second, there wasn't much left for Coach to do - he had raised through the ranks from dismal to pro.
I wished a channel offered the show in repeats. It's too good, especially during the football season, to leave shelved.
@BlaculasSmellyFro My wife told me she would vomit every time this came on when she was 5, for me the slow pan and the back and forth pendulum in the clock, hypnotized me to sleep, i never made it past the Minnesota state sweatshirt, and neither did my wife's lunch
when I was a kid this intro made me feel like I was dying... had to dash immediately to the TV and change the channel like life depended on it
