  • The character of the dean is one big reference to Tobias. Bald - check. Unintentional suggestive phrases - check. Flamboyant personalities - check.

  • What is the name of this episode? Cause I'm 90% sure that this episode has Senor Chang making even more AD references, a "COME ON" and him rolling over a desk like Tobias, but I'd like to check.

  • @Omgonthe123 It's Communication Studies.

I couldn't remember which episode this clip was from, but I instantly remembered the desk roll as being in Comm Studies (S01E16). When I checked, you were right. I guess he says "Come on!" when Annie and Shirley send him the letter from Princeton. You might be onto something here.

  • Could Chang really be.......Gene Parmesan?

  • @JackBuck44 AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

  • @jussts HE GOT ME AGAIN! - Lucille

  • @JackBuck44 Ahhhhhhhh *flails arms wildly* Geeeeeene!

  • The exec producers of the show (as seen right before the end of the clip) are Joe and Anthony Russo. Who directed the Arrested Development pilot, and many other episodes. So, obviously they'd refer to their old show :)

  • @PumuduK Yes, but this is far too subtle to be certain. Many shows have done exaggerated chickens like this, but it doesnt mean they were all referencing Arrested Development, its just a cheap laugh physical gag.

  • @KemicalPain Is exaggerated chickens a thing? Anyway, I see where you're going which is why I put a question mark in the title. I wanted you guys to discuss it.

Omgonthe123 posted something pretty interesting above where he noticed two other AD-like jokes in the same episode. So maybe it was intentional for this one episode to make some subtle AD refs.

  • Unfortunately in Mexico, this was considered a much more inflammatory gesture.

  • Also I think Community may reference the running gag on AD about the lessons George Sr. would teach his kids "And that's why you never..." (with that one armed guy. I think the episode of community is "Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design" in season 2.

  • @TVlover014 I think that is really more along the lines of cartoonish escalation (both shows doing the same thing), but good observation nonetheless.

  • I"m pretty sure they also reference it when Abed & Troy say they finish each others's "sandwiches". Michael and Lindsay also say this line. But I'm not sure which episode it's from.

  • Abed and women!?

  • chaw-CHEE-chaw-CHEE-chaw (my favorite of all)

  • lol check Annie clapping her hands xD

  • Then is Magnitude's catchphrase a homage to George Bluth Sr? POP POP!

  • Britta totally looked like Lindsay with the sunglasses too!

  • lol at Annie clapping when Chang does his chicken impression, lol.

  • @TheComixkid2099 man that was uber subtle

  • I dont get it. May someone please explain to me where's the reference?

  • @lovesickheroine Chang doing the chicken sound, in Arrested Development there is a running joke that the mean characters have no idea what a chicken sounds like.

  • @lovesickheroine

various characters from AD had "chicken dances" to call people (frequently Michael) chicken. They were all ridiculous and different from each other

  • also note: the producers listed @0:15 - joe and anthony russo - were also producers on arrested development.

  • come on!

  • Unfortunately, in Mexican culture, this was a much more inflammatory gesture.

  • thats not what chickens sound like...CHICKENS DONT CLAP!

  • CA CAW CAW!

  • Let's keep the crossover going! I tried my luck at making Community's credits in the style of Arrested Development! Take a look at my videos if you want.

  • they did another reference to arrested development in season 3 episode 9. The cops show up to troy, abed, and anie's apt. before leaving the cop says to annie "you look familiar. did i ever pretend to shoot anybody in front of you to teach you about gun safety?"

  • @PloiAm Actually, it's a reference to season 2 episode 9, "Conspiracy Theories and Interior Design", where that happened.

  • @PloiAm no.. that was a reference to the previous Community episode where they were using prop guns from the theatre department, the episode with the conspiracy theory teacher, and it was the same police officer

  • Mista F...

  • A-coodle doodle doo A-coodle doodle doo

  • oh absolutly! I think all tv sitcoms in some way, shape or form pay homage to Arrested Dev. even if they don't intend to. I LOVE Community but its still a bit behind Arrested Development.

  • kakookacha kakookacha kakookacha

  • CHA-CHI CHA-CHI CHA-CHI CHA-CHI

  • Senor Chang will return in "Notapussy"

  • CUH CAW CUH CAW CUH CAW

  • anyone else catch the TBD reference at the beginning of the modern warfare episode?

  • Has anyone on this show SEEN a chicken?

  • for british eyes only

  • En español el gallo dice... his voice is streets behind

  • Anyang.

  • The greatest sitcom on TV right now referencing the greatest sitcom of the past would be too good to be true.

  • Hahaha that's so true!

  • nah, the korean boy in AD is way too young

  • @sbt200224 Someone is streets behind.

  • Maybe

  • Thats funny:)
