As for those defending Sneaker Pimps for firing her - what hae they done since? Made two HORRIBLE albums which sounded like Placebo tribute bands. They're nowhere near what they used to be. Why, you ask? Kelli's not there.

I dont understand... when people hear a live version and its not exacly like the CD they flip out, "she cant sing live omg." Personally when I see a band live I want them to just feel it, like they are here, not just copy the CD version. Might as well just be sitting at home listening to the album in that case. She's a great live performer, albeit I've only seen her folk show but it was brilliant and her voice was outstanding.

@AMADOREQUENA They made two really strong records after this one, and Chris Corner has gone on to do three really great albums under the name IAMX. This chick can't sing,,, she was a gimmick to get their foot in the door... she's hot.. and all the 'trip hop' acts had female singers. It got them the attention they needed.. then they explored creatively and made better stuff. Get over it

@AMADOREQUENA I don't determine an artist's value by how many records they sell or if they're on a major label. If you haven't noticed most things 'major label' pretty much suck, because it's all contrived formula and the record companies know that the masses can be convinced that shit tastes good. Besides, for me, it wasn't the voice that made their sound. It was the people writing the music.. she had nothing to do with that. The spirit of the music was still there.

I like her voice on Becoming X, a nice female vocal, recorded very well... but when you listen live, you can understand why she was ditched. Hot girls sell records.. they had a good hit, got their foot in the door.. they made the right decision.

I took another couple of listens to this, then I put on the phones, and spun it a couple more. I'm blaming two major things here, the synth is right in her range, and waaaay overstomping it's boundaries. The second, her voice isn't loud, but it's accurate. The high hat trashes her voice, then the synth comes along and blows away whatever is left of her voice. Mic choice for her is poor, I know it's a clunker and huge but I would've chosen a Shure SM7B, or something geared for spoken word.

Mixing is not what even happened here. I hear a mono mix, very bland and dry, noting really punches through at all. Maybe a possibility that this was a vhs tape played and a camcorder set in front if a tube with one speaker, or a crappy camcorder, you can see it's been dubbed though, maybe twice. So all in all, bad mic choice, bad high hat mix, bad synth mix, and generational breakdown of a crappy dub. I scrubbed this with garage band and pulled her voice out, and it's pristine,

The Eventide Harmonizer has been around since the 70's,(used by Zeppelin, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Hall &Oates, etc.),...except it was used to thicken & double tracks - not fix problems or change tracks entirely. And before digital recording the effect was less sophisticated & more subtle.

It does bum you out at first when so used to the mesmorising album version, but come to think of it, she does sound good live too, just different. Her voice is great, but that's what happens when you take away all the effects and auto-tuners and bullshit inbetween, plus you have a really shitty sound configuration in this video, it's set up like a ballpark with a speaker every 100 feet, echo till' no end. Plus the drummer needs to tighten up that damned awful high hat. Maybe it's me but are they taking sound from the monitors or the board? Sounds like the monitors to me....?

@Firewhiz911 There was no auto-tuner back then. Besides, you can tell when it's auto-tuned, and her voice wasn't in the album. She does sound totally different live, than the studio.

@Firewhiz911 ONe of the issues with sound is it never seems to accommodate the female voice but women need to be more assertive about making sure they are on the same page with the sound guy. I don't know why we feel compelled to tell him to turn the dam mic up or something else down. They look at us like were nuts when we need the extreme of something but the keep comparing us to men and we just aren't. I see this so much and its always an issue with the girls :(

@cymbeli You are all too right when it comes to females singing live. Compare this mix to something or anything live by Heart. Quiet versus loud does make all the difference, and when there is more voice, there is more to work with. Studios are controlled and quiet, this arena per-say was just done plain wrong. I honestly and honestly think the guy running the board was either inexperienced, or no-experienced at all.  The result here is a multi-point failure, but the song still kicks ass!!

.... Alongside other unknowns at the time "Travis", who I also newly liked (due to their recent great new released "Good feeling" album).. gig was a superb compact atmosphere in that small tent.

On the other hand bands like Ocean Colour Scene, Kula Shaker and Reef (which have kinda all flopped these days) were on the biggest stages with Paul Weller etc. I still rate those three though.

I think Suede and The Prodigy were playin there also.. can't really remember.

I wish not every comment that attempts to defend Chris would get the thumbs down. I think they're both great in their own way. Although I personally prefer the albums that have him in vocals, I do agree the songs from "Becoming X" suit Kelli's voice better, and her voice sounds really good in that album. Live, I think Chris is a better performer than Kelli. But that's just my opinion. Overall I love all Sneaker Pimps albums, they're fantastic :)

Wouldn't matter really what female vocal, Kelli is just the one many people fell in love with first on the X album.

Get Nina Persson to be the lead singer. Great Female Voice to be the vehicle for some of the best Music and Lyrics. Honestly though, imagine if the Cardigans ditched Nina...
