The presentation at E3 definitely left me wanting a lot more. Having tried the behind closed doors demo of ME2 and coming back home to try out ME1, the difference is clear as night and day. I'm intrigued to see the choices that will ultimately succumb Shepherd in harm's way and see if he/she will make it through with my playthrough once it comes out next year!
i bet that they're going to have a part near the beginning in the default setting where some official asks you, "So, what happened to ________," and that's how it will be determined if the character makes an appearance in ME2.

No December 31 isn't right man. Just looked it up. They say sometime between Jan and Mar of 2010. They use December 31 as a generic date I think for games without a specific date but in the timeframe.

Doesn't neccesarily mean they'll come back as playable characters. Not to say old allies won't return to help in ME2, because I saw Tali in a trailer in Shepard's party, but who knows what happened to the characters in between ME and ME2. Besides, it's in still the early stages of media release for ME2. Bioware's not going to fully reveal who will be returning and who will be new. We'll just have to wait a little longer to find all that out. But yes, Ashley or Kaiden should make an appearance.
Huh? Without doing any sidequests, the main storyline still takes a good 15 hours plus. You shouldn't be rushing in a Bioware game anyway, that's exactly the opposite of what you should be doing in Bioware games.
exploring what ?? there are about 5 planets to visit with like 100m2 of surface to explore and one building in the center. everywhere i go there are only planets that i cant land on
These 2 problems are confirmed to be fixed. The texture-pop in and framerate issues are much fixed and it's much smoother now, as well as better looking thanks to the better graphics.

Just finished my first playthrough in under 12 hours, major rush job but it's a library rental so I thought I wouldn't have enough time to finish it.
Now I'm gonna go through second time and be an absolute bastard. The game is fucking phenomenal, was a bit slow to get round to playing it, seeing as how much I loved KOTOR 1 and 2.
Although the frame rate was slightly jerky once in a while, I thought the graphics were excellent, as was the combat, I didn't expect the game to be so action packed

Cerberus still exist in the novel Mass Effect Ascension which takes place after Mass Effect 1. Cerberus will have a major part in the game it seems and the Illusive Man (Cerberus leader) is the main antagonist in ME2
i'm getting the feeling that doing the subplot in the 1st game gives a major impact on ME2.

Nope, that is not Gillian. The dock girl is too old and was kidnapped by slavers. Gillian lived a "normal" life on the school and her dad would never let slavers near her.
Wait i think there's a flaw with your argument. The Prequel (Mass Effect: Revelations) to the novel Mass Effect Ascension doesn't include Commander Shepard. But instead, the main protagonist in the prequel is Captain Anderson along with his story w/ Saren. So I'm guessing that the novels are just a side story to the game itself and it doesn't explain the entire story of Mass Effect. Nevertheless, I still agree that the Illusive Man and Cerberus are included in ME2 but not the main villains.

I don't know about you. But I don't want that to be true. I don't want to play as someone new, I want to play as Shepard! Don't get me wrong, KOTOR 2 was still great. But it didn't compare to the first. I wanted to play as Reven again. I hope ME2 doesn't do that.

But the thing is that it wouldn't be the character per se that would be saved but the political situation at the end. I think you're given a completely new character and probably the story is you have to find Shepard whose got himself lost somewhere (where finding his/her dead body would be the character model saved from the first). That's my best guess.
I will be based on your saved games from Mass Effect 1... The game will load them and find out what you have done, and that will effect the game in Mass Effect 2... I am really looking forward to it...
Well, if you buy ME2 without having to play ME1, ME2 will bring you right up to speed with the ME1 story. But, it is HIGHLY recommended that you play ME1 first so you at least get a sense of the story, and once you beat ME1, you at least have a character to port onto ME2.

I think it would be cereberus considering the trailer was set up on a cereberus computer database if you watch it on the website. They made it as if you were a cereberus agent reading up on shepard's file to find that he's dead
The latest OXM issue had an article about Mass Effect. It confirmed that you play as Shepard, but they don't know if its permanent. Also, There will be more species joining the party, like Salarian, and the new species shown in this video.
I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but towards the end of the clip, it's actually the Normandy that's all shot to hell and it's hull is open to space - looks like the command deck where the star map was.

The improvements sound good and fun I do hope theres more scenery variation than in Mass Effect (god that games near perfection makes me go nit-picky) i just hope they dont drop the character/relationship building and the dialogue I know many people say there was too much dialogue and I have to agree to a degree but I think its because theres to much talking by NPCs and information thrown at you (think Avina) they could contain about the same amount of dialogue and just make it conversation.
doubt it, if there were humanoid reapers we probably would have seen them on sovereign, btw exactly when and what is E3 cant say i know (show and awe?)

I just hope they fix 2 problems
1. Lag. Mass Effect one had horrible lag for the average graphics, on a decent rig.
2. Waiting time, i.e. Elevators, Transporters, things that should be skippable, just aren't.

Well, if you buy ME2 without having to play ME1, ME2 will bring you right up to speed with the ME1 story. But, it is HIGHLY recommended that you play ME1 first so you at least get a sense of the story, and once you beat ME1, you at least have a character to port onto ME2.

Notice in this video the normandy crashes. Maybe cereberus have him listed as dead because they blew apart his/her ship without realising he/she is still alive?

I think it would be cereberus considering the trailer was set up on a cereberus computer database if you watch it on the website. They made it as if you were a cereberus agent reading up on shepard's file to find that he's dead

The latest OXM issue had an article about Mass Effect. It confirmed that you play as Shepard, but they don't know if its permanent. Also, There will be more species joining the party, like Salarian, and the new species shown in this video.

The improvements sound good and fun I do hope theres more scenery variation than in Mass Effect (god that games near perfection makes me go nit-picky) i just hope they dont drop the character/relationship building and the dialogue I know many people say there was too much dialogue and I have to agree to a degree but I think its because theres to much talking by NPCs and information thrown at you (think Avina) they could contain about the same amount of dialogue and just make it conversation.
