Some of the lines have been edited from this edition. When Carrisford asks "what is this?" Crewe (in the original) replies "it is a cheque for a hundred thousand." Carrisford then says "I said that that was half the production cost; I never expected-" To which Crewe says "stocks and bonds bore me; I would rather invest a friend whose judgment I trust".
@SusanBaudelaire I agree. It was clearly done on a modest budget, but the script was great and the actors (children and adults) are fantastic.I don't think they could have chosen a better Sara than Amelia Shankley.
I really liked this adaptation, I was the only boy in my family, I have six sisters, and we used to watch it together every Sunday when it was first shown in 1986, I was about 9 at the time. Haven't met any other male fans of the story or this series
This version of A Little Princess was made in 1986 and aired in the U.S. sometime in 1986 or 1987 on various PBS stations across the country. It was released on DVD in May of 2009.
i read the book then watched the 1995 version. then my mom found this version, only nothing was said about it being a tv series, just a movie. I liked this one better because it followed the book better
My mum bought of this vhs set when I was six, or something, so ten-ish years after it was aired. Been looking for a copy online for years. :) Thanks a lot for uploading -- brings back all sort of memories.
Finally. A better quality version. This is SO hard to find and literally impossible to get Region 4 DVD. :( So nice to see it again. This version is so beautifully true to the book.
@pepayspring there is a scene where a carriage drives past Sara and she really looks like Emma Watson (I believe it is episode four) if you pause it, you'll see a striking resemblance

The sets aren't so great, but the actors really make up for it.
