What amazes me is this misconception that in order to be a good musician, you have to LIKE what they produce! That's just not true. Bozzio is a true musician and percussionist and has some of the most amazing skills in working a kit out there. It doesn't mean you have to like the sound but please.....for the sake of what music is.....enjoy what he can accomplish.
Also, I'd like to see anyone of you losers who posted a negative comment here either transcribe or post a video of you doing what he did. You can say whatever you want - especially on youtube's coward-attracting comment threads- but if you're not innovating, or at least learning how to express yourself through your instrument, you're utterly useless. And Pro-Tip: If a good drummer hears you dis bozzio, you'll have a 5B stickin' out yer asshole
Regarding everyone's bickering about the sound of his toms...In a band situation, I'm not sure if it would be appropriate. Maybe so but idunno. However, this isn't a band. Its one person exploring the different sonic possibilities of his kit. I've never heard a solo like this one. I've never heard drums like these. If you're interested in doing whats already been done, you have no place the world of music. At least try and appreciate that part of it.
Bozzio is an incredible drummer whose stick work is the envy of most drummers. However its not my chosen cup of tea and id sooner watch someone like Jojo Mayer on a 4 piece kit than this though that doesnt mean I dont admire Bozzio's work.
His single strokes really are awesome, and the concept of the solo is well done just the sound of the the drums itself it's not what I would like to remember from a such a great musician and drummer such as Terry Bozzio.
If you don't like terry bozzio for all the contributions to drumming he has made then you're not a musician, you can probably just play regurgitated beats you heard on the radio. Go listen to a Nickelback album fags

@atrophiedcingulate I worked on a Steve Vai tour in 1996 (maybe 35 shows, as a tech for Keneally, who was opening for Vai as well as playing in Vai's band). Mangini was the drummer then with his Terry-inspired all rototom kit with that symmetrical set up. I regarded him as a Bozzio clone, but that's not to say he isn't pretty damned amazing with the mathematical stuff and the presentation. His independence and ambidexterity was totally enviable.
Simply phenomenal. Original in every respect. Elegant, eloquent; sure shades (particularly the singles over the various voices), of Tony Williams- yet completely distinctive. Truly an inspiration.

@needlearmor Bearing in mind i have been playing drums and percussion for upwards of 10 years, and the flute and trombone (fuck yeah man) in all sort of ensemble since i was12, i still stand by my previous statement that this is bollocks.
This solo has no dynamic or flow, and bozzio seems to assume that tuning drums in this manner will inject melody automatically. It doesn't.
