Dude my friend brought his to a rec center and I loved it. Everyone was hating on it for all the reasons you mentioned. One guy even said it was fake. He said it was too hard. They idiot didn't even know that this ball is like that when it is new. This ball has perfect balance and unless you play basketball a lot you won't appreciate the consistency.
People are idiots. The guy even said Spalding paid the NBA to print official game ball on it. LOL like why the hell would they do that?
@KhMErTRiAd post a video?! i got that ball like a year ago the price is gone. the ball had a small scuff and the ball was posted as an add on to some basketball cards. so people bidding that he was only selling cards when the ball was included. geez
@MeecHieNdo honestly, id have to say that its STILL not FULLY broken in (or at least where i want it to be) yet...dont get me wrong, its still my favorite, but i know its still going to get a little better. i started the conditioner about a year or so after i got it & used it over and over again on indoor courts. i stopped conditioning it now altogether and am just going to break it in by using it.
but short answer: still not FULLY broken in...about only 75% of the way there...
ive played with all sorts of basketballs old new official not official and i have adjusted to all of them as i play and dont really notice a difference
@Ligthning95 wtf? thats not the point...new basketballs arent as nice to play with as broken-in (used) basketballs. if you keep buying new ones, you will never get to play with the ball at its best.
are you just trying to show off by hinting that $90 isnt much money for you or something? then why dont YOU just buy me a new one?
all the official nba balls are horrible, ive owned both, the original one you have here and the experimental one that lasted almost a whole season... that one cost me $170 new!!
and the reason they suck is because most of us dont play on an clean NBA caliber court. we play in normal every day used gyms, so these official nba balls once they pick up a little bit of dust you can forget about grip, it goes to shietsss.... top flite zk pro is the only ball i've ever used that retains grip ALWAYS
@Adnan604 ya i hear so many theories. but in my opinion, i actually like the ball. ive played with top flights (not sure if it was zk pro or not) that had great grip while shooting around, but when the game starts & it gets a little sweaty, it got SLIPPERY like a bar of soap. honestly, this dude brought a BRAND NEW one with the box to the gym & it was great til the game started. had like 6 turnovers before the owner of the ball decided to use a dif one in the gym...i prefer the leather game ball
@Cj0ne hey man...u motivated me to make my first update video...its being uploaded now so should be available in a few hrs. i go over a different method that i believe leads to more success in the feel of the ball. ignore the leather conditioner spray that i used in this video. it may have helped a little little bit, but i found a better method that i came up with to use...
@vigneshrk coo man thanks! cuz i just started the leather condition method bout 2 hours ago haha..cant wait too see your follow up video. cuz i need this ball to break in, ive been hooping with it for about a month now and i cant imagine how long its gonna take to break this ball in.
@Cj0ne ya, honestly, dont even waste your time with the leather conditioner. unless yours is way different than mine was in the video, the spray just makes the ball a little glossy and kind of slick (but no permanent negative effects - its safe, just not preferred). i made a waaaaaaaaay better method and am uploading it now. i would tell it to you, but its too long to type the instructions, so just check back in a few hours. not perfect yet, but im super happy with this new method...
@vigneshrk Ball looks good, but I'm sure I wouldn't play well with it (Too Slick).. Excuse me for my ignorance, what does break-in basketball means? I bought several basketball in the pass. Fake ones, real ones, and I seem to always adjust to it very quickly.
@lilcrazyaznboy well this ball is meant to be played with. i know you said the ball is too slick, but that is partly what the breaking in process takes care of. it makes the ball less slick (even though it really isnt that "slick" in the first place - never really slips out of your hands or anything & its even better when wet with sweat or whatever). lots of leather things must be broken-in: baseball gloves, basketballs, etc. its just more authentic than the "fake" ones so i want to use it...
@vigneshrk One issue I'm facing with my ball currently is that the air valve has started to leak air pretty quickly. The rubber inside has melted over the years and doesn't maintain air pressure like it should. Either way...I plan to break this ball in before it breaks me....
@johnjaylee i actually think there are products for a leaky ball (try to google ball doctor). ive heard that fix-a-flat for car tires works pretty well (but not sure if the added weight in the ball affects the bounce, spin, or roll). 10-15 years is a long time - im too impatient for that. dont use leather conditioner - its not bad, just a waste of time. check out MY UPDATE VIDEO for a BETTER METHOD to break it in. u should make a video of your game ball so we can see how the ball is after time!!
Man, I've been trying to break in my leather NBA ball for over ten years. I got mine in mid to early 90's and it's still not broken in yet. I have the same problems as stated above where no one wants to use it and people assume it's a cheap ball. I've looked for research online as well and did not find much info over the years. Thanks for the tips... I also read about using leather conditioner but didn't think it would work. I'll try and hopefully it'll speed things up...
i remember when i was in sixth grade. I got to go to Seattle Sonics Basketball camp. We got play and scrimmage on a full size NBA court (the old one from the seattle center coliseum) and use the the Spalding official game balls. i thought they felt great. i always use a spalding but until then i always had there outdoor composite balls. but man being a sixth grader, that three point line was far.
love the vid man! ive always wanted an official nba ball, but ive heard that the ones they sell arnt the same leather as what the nba players actually use. Is that true?
@xCBECH22x what have you heard the differences between the store game ball and league game ball are? ive never heard this before...well, i guess i have heard that the league game balls are laser engraved with the team name on there & the store game balls are not...also the league balls are more broken in (since its their jobs to play ball & practice for like 3-4 hours every day)...anything else?
@vigneshrk idk, i dont totally remember but i remember hearing that they jsut wernet made out of the same leather. I was younger when i heard this so i dont totally remember, but its stuck in my head for some reason.
@MrMpala69conv remember, just do not too frustrated with the ball until it gets broken in. a lot of hoopers do not like to play with this ball when its brand new because they think it feels cheap. so my advice is: just be patient, use a leather conditioner, and try to play with it (bounce, shoot, etc - indoors only) as much as possible. it is very different to the composite (non-leather) balls, but patience is the key. i hope you love it like i do!
Great informative video. I just purchased one today for $67 at Sports Authority with a 25% off coupon that's good until the 17th I believe. Check out my vid.
@freddytv definitely will check out your video...im not 100% sure, but i think we have the only 2 videos on youtube that feature the NBA game ball!!! hopefully we get a bunch of views. have you used conditioner on your ball yet before using it? if you want, you can post your video as a video response on here to increase your views a little...thats fine with me. any word on how to get that 25% off coupon to sports authority?
@vigneshrk yeah, I think we do have the only 2 game ball videos lol. have not used it yet, got to find a gym. i'll post a link to the coupon in the description of my video.
@freddytv u are the man! the coupon saves the $6 s&h u gotta pay if u go thru the site. im using this coupon to get different official game sports-balls: NFL game ball, official soccer game ball, official rugby game ball, and official water polo game ball. now i will have the best stuff to play these sports (ive always wanted different official game balls even though ive never played water polo or rugby before) when the chance arises & they are investments that people will buy if i need to sell!
