What a sight the "sea of cardinal & gold pom poms" used to be! USC football and Trojan-tradition seemed ready-made for television. The SC-UCLA games were a sight back in "the day!" Nebraska - a national power in their own right, was overwhelmed by a team/program riding a wave of success that was unvbelievable in the '00s. That success may be back (10-2 in '11) despite the best efforts of greedy Bush's and NCAA devils. Fight on for freakin' forever Trojans!

each other is sad. Don't count on these two meeting for a National Championship unless a playoff format is in place. They should have a home-and-home series, but the SEC doesn't schedule those types of games, rather picking some cupcakes and some D-II (now FCS) schools.

AP title is a consensus title and does count as a national championship. For the record 2003 was the only year in BCS history that one team didn't win all the consensus titles. Split champions happen and the AP has been around a lot longer than this BCS thing.

So breaking it down to whose the best in the decade USC is 5-1 in BCS games (3-4 at the Rose Bowl and 1-0 in the Sugar and Orange bowls, 5-2 overall. LSU is 4-0 in BCS bowls (all Sugar), 6-2 in the decade.

getting Coaches votes would be way harder for a team because these are actually coaches in college football and they'll obviously be bias toward their own team

and the difference between USC and Auburn, Hawaii, and Boise State is that none of those team were awarded an AP National Title. Auburn i think ended ranked 2 or 3 in the final poll, Hawaii got there asses kicked and didnt finish undefeated, Boises state was able to sqeak by Oklahoma and Usc deserved that title shot

whos to say those other undefeated teams didnt deserve the exact same shot at the title that usc did? nobody knew how those teams would fare until their bowl games were over. nobody knew that hawaii would get crushed. the point i am trying to make here is this. if you are going to count usc 2 titles, then it should actually be 3, since the year they won the bcs they won the ap too. and lsu would have 4. so you see how stupid that is. either you count all the ap titles, or none of them.

me9rob I feel you, the AP championship has been around since 1936 the BCS has evolved from the Coaches Poll which came about in 1953, the AP was first to award their title after Bowl games, so the AP is the much more respected title, USC would have been a better match-up than Oklahoma in 03 and Auburn would have been a better match-up the following year than Oklahoma.
