Friends of the Earth are idiots, nuclear is cheaper than coal. It only take so long to do because they picket every stage of the process and cause the delays. There is no other solution than nuclear unless you want to massively cut back on living standards.
Radioactive waste should be storaged in special cans in restricred areas. They can be use again and if if it's keeped like that there shouldn't be any problems. BUT... people still dispose them to water (especially Russian bastards) or they are dumpted in (for example) old hospitals (cobalt bombs). Reality is cruell...
No offense, but do you even know how a run of the mill contemporary PWR or BWR reactor even works? Even the maintenance workers at the plant hardly get any radiation. I think once you do a little research you will find this technology is safe.
