  • Very entertaining. Nice to see it works with a man singing about a hysterical, hypochondriac wife, too!

One small point: you've confused the cruel Broadway Phyllis (I've done that already/or didn't you know, love) with the slightly less cruel, revised London Phyllis (I might have already/and you'd never know, love). I'm a little picky, I know. Glad to see you having fun with the song, though!

I did confuse some of the lyrics, didn't I? Oops! haha! I guess I was listening to the Diana Rigg version too much or something. Thanks for pointing it out! Thanks for watching!

  • @ChrisRandomSinger No worries, I am with you on Diana. I love all the different versions but I think Diana got it down best. Haughty and proud and venomously angry but completely under control except for "wait a goddamn minute..." Then the self-control comes back. I just watched Jan Maxwell on YouTube. Everyone is raving about her but she's completely hysterical, not how Phyllis is at all...

Hope you had something strong in that glass :-)

I saw Jan live and the moment really builds well when you see it in the context of the full performance. I think people are raving about her because she really does so something unexpected and different with the role. It's a terrific song, open to so many interpretations, like most of Sondheim's songbook. That's what I love about his work. There's always new ways to play it.
