I had no idea this was a Canadian group, I only heard it on 1050 CHUM in the early 90s as a golden oldie, recorded it from the radio on my first oldies cassette. When I played this I could remember to song I have before and after this song on that cassette
I loved this song! Heard it all the time on WRKO, 680 in Boston, in Summer 1969. After the summer it was gone and rarely heard from again. Thanks for posting it. Great Memories!
@SpecialK65 680 WRKO,,,,,,,,,,,My HOME TOO Didn't play long Good Song though,,,,,,,,Played with stay and love me all summer,, and smile a little smile for me rosemarie,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I can groove to this song all night---they just DO NOt make songs like this anymore. Where is Francine when I am listening to this beautifule classic! GG, Boardman, OH
I heard this song maybe 3 times when it was new, but loved it the first time I heard it. I have looked for it over 40 years now but never knew the actual title or name of the group. I won't lose it again!
Thanks for posting this gem with the "props" it deserves & good quality audio too. I played this tune in a "blue-eyed soul" group I was in, a trio back in the mid 70's after hearing it on a local radio station in the metro NY City area. Great track though not really danceable, which is what we needed for our gigs but we'd sneak it in every chance we got! Restrictive play lists by commercial corporate-owned radio stations today mean your chances of hearing it are slim to none.
Canadians. This tune deserved a much better fate than number eighteen on the
charts. In the past forty-one years, I have
only heard this song on three radio stations: K-EARTH(Los Angeles); WMT-FM(Cedar Rapids, Iowa); and KXO-AM(El Centro, CA.) What a pity... William "Smitty"
Smith--You were definitely the man we thought you'd be...
Wow, what a great song! Thanks for posting it. I remember it well, but probably haven't heard it in 30 or more years. I have no idea why so-called 'oldies' radio doesn't play it. I really appreciate you helping me to rediscover it.
Awesome Mike, you're best song and video. Only 1160 views. One of the greatest records ever. People don't know anything.I guess they can;t hear it,Those darn generic oldies stations.K.T.F.
I didn't know that this single was on Buddah Records - Many great pop gems are on this great label. I heard this on the Big 8, CKLW from Windsor...motor city rock...BTW the intro you're using Mike sounds very much like the CKLW jingle....
Three similarly-titled songs, all hits within a year or two of each other: "And When I Die" by Blood, Sweat & Tears (written by Laura Nyro), "When I'm Dead and Gone" by McGuiness Flint, and this one.
This one is true golden oldie that has a grooving essence. It received plenty of air time on the AM dial thanks to 1050 CHUM. Listening to this beauty takes me back to a warm sunny summer in Scarborough Ontario Canada during the care free days of lost youth. Great song. Thanks!

What a great song, what fantastic music. This song should have been #1 all over the airwaves. As good as any song that has ever come out of Canada.

Michael: Thanks for posting this soulful

"proverbial stage" with these talented
Canadians. This tune deserved a much better fate than number eighteen on the

This Canadian quartet made a few records, including a fine cover of Jr. Walker's hit, What Does It Take.
According to Wikipedia, Motherlode keyboard player, William "Smitty" Smith, suffered a fatal heart attack in 1997.

Mike, always loved this song ever since I was a kid.
"When I Die" is a beautifully written pop record - the perfect marriage of lyric and melody.
This song has always touched me.
Thanks always Mike!
Cheers,
James
