nice rifle buddy, im thinking of one in 7mm rem mag i currently got a tikka t3 6.5 swede and a cz 550 manlicher in 308 will never sell them but im ready for a mag and have always loved the browning guns they got a big following in Canada
Great video and nice rifle - one of America's upper-end (non-custom) production rifles. Kind of wish Browning made it with a 24 inch barrel. You hunt very well with it.
Thank you for this Excellent video ,good luck with your book . A 30 caliber is good only if you are going for real big game , the ,270 has a much better trajectory then the 30 and for what I see you didn't need more then your 270 for the size of game you shot..
nice video, the 30 cal. will ofer more impresive stopping power than the 270 But for the size of game you are shooting 270 makes sence to me with a light wt. premium bullet. Shot placement of cource means everething, I see you hav no problem with that .. nice neck and head shots no wasted meat ....But could you do that consinstently with a 30-06
nice vid, but by the looks of the country you hunt in, you should have kept your .270 because it pwns 30-06 in open areas where longer shots are the order of the day
I think it is funny you swithched to the 30-06. It really pisses some people off because of the great debate over which one is better. It brings a smile to my face though. I started out using an 06 when I was 13 and have a good friend that inherited one when he was 12 and has been using it ever since (36 years). The 270 is an excellent cartridge, but runs in second place when compared to the old 30-06. Guys that think the 270 is more powerful , don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.
@mikaleleskipper Thanks, yeah I am writing for Rod and Rifle at the moment as I try and get a publisher for my book about my time at university hunting.
@mikaleleskipper Thank you very much. The next issue isn't quite a story, more my first time at trying to write an article, but I have a story for the one after. Cheers
hola from Arizona, nice video.i hunt the desert here with a 25-06.ive harvested white tail, mule deer, elk, etc.ive been critizised for the cal, people say its to small.i'm not a atv hunter, sometimes i hike all day the find game.i choose this rifle because of the ballistics and is very light.remington 700 adl 25-06 stainless synthetic.i use ballistic silvertip and drop deer at 200-250 yds running.i'm old school i guess.hiking carrying only backpack and rifle.i like this vid cause i can relate
Hi, I was shooting 130gr speers out of the 270, getting 3000fps, with the '06 I am shooting 165gr hornady bullets at...2970 fps (average), and it has some good hitting power. Shot Tahr out to 460 yards last week with it, will sort out the vid soon...shows the 270 up!
try it in the very accurate Cooper( Jackson Hunter) rifle topped with a Swarovski AV 6-18X50 P(BR reticle) and you can easily reach out to 500+ yards without any elevation adjustment.(great reticle). BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY!
Gotta love the .270. it's never let me down, I wonder why you'd go to the 06'? The results with your .270 is good I'd say. Beautiful country and animals you get to hunt!
Yes, was a nice rifle but not quite big enough for the big stags and Tahr in my opinion (I lost a really good stag with the 270). Will put up another couple of vids soon showing off what the '06 does. Cheers
@jad120 each to their own, Jack O'conner would argue that statement no doubt. I guess it just comes down to where you put the bullet and how well the bullet is constructed. I myself would put money on my .270 with 150 grain (2950fps) handloads against any '06 with a 165 grain bullet. The '06 has got about 100 ft. pounds on the .270, hardly an overwhelming advantage. Not saying the .270 is any better, but the '06 isn't any better than the .270. Personal preference is all. The 7mm mag beats both!
Doubleheader, I know what you are saying... and you're very right it is personal preference. I played with the 270 alot (handloading) and the old man used a 30-06. He reckoned it beat the 270 hands down, I took some convincing but since playing with it and loading up some 165gr hornady sst's with 59gr's ADI 2209 I wouldn't go back. They make a big hole, and hit hard. Good enough for me...I like to hunt rather than paper punch and it's doing me well.
@jad120, I shoot a .300 H&H Mag. with 185 grain Berger VLD's @ 2900fps. My .270 is my go-to rifle though, we have Moose and Elk upwards of 1000 pounds and the .270 has always been more than enough. I don't have a 7mag yet but it will be my next rifle I buy. I have built up the .300 to be a 500yd+ rifle. If you look at the ballistics the .30 cal. doesn't reach it's full potential until you get into the 210grain+ bullets at 2900fps+. The 7mm has far superior ballistics with 165-175 bullets.
@jad120 I am definitely envious of the hunting opportunities you guys have, looks like a ton of fun and good table fare. The landscape is beauty too. Great videos' and hope to see more. Good luck and str8 shootin'!
Thank you, yes we have it so good over here, yet there is still so much politics that could be better ironed out. be sure to send me a message if you decide to come have a go over here.
As for the rifle, so many people have so many differing views, I know from my experience that at the moment I prefer the '06-who knows how long that will last!
On that rifle I had a 3-9 Leupold VX1 and everything was shot under 150 meters on that video I'm pretty sure. I've upgraded now to a weaver grandslam 6-20 X 40 on my 30.06 and got a range finder...was keen on some more longer range shooting...but so far have kept it below 200 yards-although my vid of the Chamois buck was the seond animal I took with it...range 219 yards
Yep, always take meat-even the big bull Tahr didn't get wasted (although we mixed the miince with some young venison in the end cause it was so strong!!!) Thanks for all the feedback.
Thanks, was a good rifle, I now run a Browning A-bolt in 30.06 as one came up and thats what I wanted to start with (and couldn't find) seems to be doing it's job.
that made me hungry

270 is lot's of gun for those little deer.
My buddy brings down Canadian Moose with his..........no problem.
The 243 cal. would do a good job on your Chamois also..
You guy's are fit.
Quite the Mountainous terrain you have there.
Nice photo shoot.

I recently bought a .270 They are great guns and have a higher velocity and more ft lbs of pressure than a 30-06.
