Nice to see we ALL don't need a $3000 GAP rifle to hear the ping @ 1k lol - To do that with a off the shelf rifle with a 24" sporter barrel is pretty amazing. GREAT load work and I'm sure some coaching from you guys... Keep the vids coming - Great job guys
I own a savage 110(pre accu-trigger) with a 28" barrel, 1/9'' twist. I load a 150gr nosler ballistic tip over 63gr of imr 4831. From what the manuals state im running 3130 fps. its a beast. Im considering loading a 160ish grainer for the pure giggles of it. so far though, that 150gr. with a stock barrel, I can clover leaf all every time. This baby has has ruined two scopes lol, third times a charm for sure. Its wareing a bushnell dawn to dusk 3x9x40mm sighted in at 300 yrds
Great shooting and you can see the bullet displacing vapour in the air. This gives trail of the bullet and is not special effects. You will notice the acute angle of the bullet drop at 1000 yards where it is running out of energy. Nothing special about it just the shooting/shooter and the equipment.
@Gunsales1000 - If you can call 800ftlbs @ 1000yds "running out of energy" then yeah, it is lol - That's about the same as a 5.56 @ 200yds but a MUCH bigger hole. Safe to say, you're not gonna live
@overclockedamd123 - Yeah right... That's cuz you don't see peas moving at 3000fps. That trail (also called vapor trail) is bullet trace caused by the bullet deflecting air and disturbing it as it flies at that speed. VERY normal and VERY real.. Do some research before you type this s**t
it would be very intresting to see both 300wm and 7rm side by side and maybe find some closure to ballistics and bc, i know its all different depending on loads but its a never ending argument, 168gr 7mm has same bc as a 210 berger, 230gr bergers however are in a class of thier own, would be a nice experiment if you do it please let me know!! thanks and great video. mainly lookin for cold bore shots for hunting.
@metubemikehunt2 If this will help look up accuracy arms on the internet in Colorado , they install muzzle breaks and best of all Boss systems muzzle breaks.
What is the target made of, I've been looking for something to shoot at myself that I'd be able to see hits at that distance... wow! 17 MOA drop, looking at the ballistics for Sierra 168 Match kings the drop using IMR 4350 is 30 MOA looks like I need to switch powders!
That bullet is traveling at the muzzle only 300 fps shy of mach 3 at the muzzle (roughly). If you were standing as an observer you would never see the bullet. Nor do you see the bullet itself in the video. You see the shock waves due to optical compression of space from of a telephoto lens.
Savage make excellent rifles at a price that is manageable for a blue-collar enthusiast. 7mm rem mag is a hot belted cartridge. Very interesting as you can see the trajectory of the bullet by the shock waves in the air (supersonic waves) with the help of telephoto lens compression on the video side. Excellent rifle and excellent shooting. Interesting video too. My TV is feeling rather lonely. It can keep feeling lonely as far as I am concerned. Cheers. Good stuff whoever you are.
Just if you don't mind what reloading tools do you use, I am seeing buying Ammo is out of hand, reloading is a necessity. I am thinking of the classis Hornady set up.
Awesome I have a browning 7mm mag and it is very accurate. I'm not up to trying to hit something at 1000 yds just yet. I have some custom load 168 bergers, I have found that Hornady's 162 gr btsp are very close in accuracy to the bergers.
Damn good shooting! Thinking about getting a muzzle brake on my 7mm Mag.. Just got one for my 300 win mag (hunting gun) now I want one for my target gun! Thanks for posting!
I just got a savage M111 long range hunter in 7mm mag. I plan on shooting hsm 168 gr. bergers out of it. It has a factory installed muzzle brake, but if i'm not happy with it i might get a vias brake put on it.
You have inspired me....I have a brand new rem 700 in 7mm but i havent even taken a shot with it yet...i need some glass for it first. would you say the 168 vlds are the only way to go? Ive heard good things about them, how much drop is there at 1000? Great video!!!
The whole purpose of the video is to demonstrate the supposed effectiveness of stainless tumbling media. You can't tumble loaded ammunition so this would obviously have to be hand-loads. Can't think of much logical reason to try and shoot factory ammo at 1k anyway.
That is on the south side of Utah lake. In the back ground is the west side of the lake. Nutty Putty cave area. I am using the Panasonic HDC-TM700 with a 2.2x telephoto lens.Go to my you tube channel, and the GAP video is the camera without the lens.

Nope! It an off the shelve Savage. We put a brake on it, and a NightForce. Load development was a big key.

Hey glad you guys are liking it. Yes l think the Berger 168 Vld's or the 180's you can't beat. At 1000 yards the bullet drops 181 inches or 17.3 MOA
