What if they shortened the name to Pete Williams? I love Petey Williams, amazing athlete, but what a shame that his name happens to be Petey and he's almost the same size as Hornswaggle. The guy can go! If I had a wrestling company, I'd push Petey to the moon. On a side note, as much as I like the whole panel, Lawrence Haber is my favorite on the Roundtable!
this past week's IMPACT episode was much better than last week's, and i am excited to see the ratings. TNA has a lot of work to do to really build this company and put on a quality TV show, to even compete and get half of RAW's ratings weekly. There is still too much goofy crap in TNA with this Hogan Era... ugh why The Nasty Boys? Let's not try to re-create the 90s anymore, these skits they do are just awful and WHY end the show with Jeff Jarrett in a match? nobody has EVER cared about JJ
(Sigh)......Things have'nt changed for TNA.....still depending on too many old guys, still Russo, still marginalizing the X Division. Not enough indy wreslers. Still trying to be WWE lite, and yes they still have the Impact Zone........
the best person they can get right now is rey mysterio, it can bring in alot of what ifs (rey vs x-division) and it would up ratings with the spanish cummunity. It would make sense right now considering how he's tired of wwe right now, it would be great for tna imo
simple fix for tna , booker uses his school as an ovw for tna get tazz off the mike , get kurt some help , unify x-division & legends title into undesputed x-division tittle ,bring back monty brown & petey , finish mafia story with faces getting over & dont hire anybody for a year & re-establish aj, joe , daniels , abyss , hernandez as main eventers
And interestingly since Hogan's signing was announced the PPV's of TNA have had less gimmick matches and 4 excellent matches with the core guys of Aj Styles,Daniels,Samoa Joe,Desmond Wolfe and Kurt Angle
Russo is on the way out (for like the sixth time) again, but Hogan / Bischoff have not figured out how to get Russo out of his contract yet. Daniels is a job boy for 1999 comedy act Val Venus, Styles is now a Flair clone, Sloppy Joe is jobbed and kidnapped, and Nigel's piece of ass valet is the only thing TNA is doing with him. Bischoff / Hogan are their usual bull and bluster, but have not improved business. TNA is wasting money like it is the USA government and not drawing a penny at all.
Until TNA is fully committed to promoting original stars, they won't make any progress. Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Abyss, and all the other guys who got there first TV exposure on TNA should be on top of the company by now.
As much as I love Kurt Angle (I still have my original "3 I's" t-shirt after all these years), he needs to be putting over the new talent. Especially since he may end up in jail soon.
I have the American By Birth, Angry By Choice Angle shirt (I have a 3 I hat) and I think Angle has no place in a wrestling ring any more at all. McMahon was right when he told Angle he was sending him to drug rehab then phasing him out as a wrestler because Angle is mentally and physically messed up. As far as all the alleged TNA originals (who were stolen from ROH) go, they have all been tried on top and flopped. Just let TNA die and start over fresh I say because TNA can not be fixed.
TNA can be fixed. They already have better in-ring product than WWE. The trick is to match that up with good writing.
TNA is WCW 2.0, especially now that they've brought in all the WWE rejects & old timers. And just like WCW, TNA seems to have some decent ideas but doesn't know what to do with them. They haven't found their nWo story yet. Until they can put out some great storylines, TNA is doomed to being a distant second to Vince.
Sure TNA is the best in ring product, if you like crippled has beens, stoned drug addicts, flippy dippy midgets, a million run ins, and confusing crap gimmick matches. WWF is a few icons who can still go (HHH, HBK, Undertaker, etc.) with all the best young, physical, talent (Cena, Orton, Miz, etc.). The last thing TNA needs is another NWO because they have tried doing the NWO over again at least 10 times including KOW, SEX, MEM, the Band, etc. Jarretts sucked and then Dixie made it all worse.
I don't mean that TNA needs to replicate the actual nWo, just that they need a hot story that gets attention like the nWo did for WCW at first.
And considering that WWE put the strap on a stoned drug addict, I wouldn't say they get any points either. They were just lucky that Hardy asked for a vacation before he got caught with the drugs.
All the wrestling stories have been done before, so no 1 story is going to make TNA work. A company that did a crap 1.1 TV rating last week and put 1,200 people in seats in a 17,000 seat building is dead. Druggie Hardy did not ask for vacation as his deal expired and he refused to sign a new deal because he was tired of McMahon forcing him to be sober via constant piss tests. Hardy likes drugs more than cash or fame, so he knew he could go to the minor league that hires all of the WWF cast offs
Yes all the wrestling stories have been done. nWo is ripped off from New Japan, but it still worked because it was something different in America. Maybe it won't be something new, just a fresh take on something old.
TNA just needs to do something, because WWE & its formula are tired & stale. Wrestling needs competition, period. TNA, at least right now, is the best competitor to WWE. So I'd like to see them become a viable 2nd option.
NWO worked because they lied and said it was a WWF invasion, which is never going to be done again because WCW lost a law suit to WWF that cost WCW millions of dollars and gave WWF the right to buy WCW if it was ever sold. TNA has tried to be a 1 trick pony for years and no 1 story is going to make a whole company from out of nothing. Wrestling needs to be like all major league sports with 1 major league (WWF), a developmental system (FCW), and foreign leagues (Japan, Mexico, et cetera). End TNA
@MRobert21 This exactly how I feel, sad thing is TNA has links with NJPW,AAA and allows it's wrestlers still to appear with ROH who also have a deal with NOAH.
Create a global wrestling federation, the stories you can have would be amazing,Guys switching or drifting through promotions, invasions, global drafts and world tournaments as well.Wrestling could bigger than ever but it's always denying fans what they want, burying talent and giving us silly gimmicks and stories. It needs to be refreshing
I thought that was a goofy thing to say too. He's only so over that the fans still cheered him when they turned him heel in the MEM & he also bumped the ratings considerably(for TNA anyway) when he returned a few years ago. This is also to say nothing about his incredible conditioning and the shape he's in as you were alluding to ; I was just saying they should be concentrating on building their own original stars than relying on older ones, to say 'nobody cares' is clearly not true
A year and a half later, and this video is still fresh. There is absolutely no change with that boring crap, TNA might make it to the ten year mark with theyre lackluster use of talent, and who will care!
Actually, the only change is 'They haven't made a dime since day one' because they've made a profit the last few years. Nothing HUGE, but still that's great news for them and also an indicator that for all the stupid shit they do every week, they maintain their audience and make enough money from Spike/advertisers/sponsors and international distribution to sustain themselves. Everything else I'm sure IS the same, however ;) heh, thanks
Eric. I may be in a minority here, but I doubt they will be around in 5 years. Is Vince Russo to blame? I don't know. I have noticed that TNA can't get their storylines straight. The main event at the PPV had Jeff Jarret say he didn't want the TNA title from Mick, but whenever the participants went for the pin, he broke it up. WTF? In order for TNA to really shine, I think they should let Samoa Joe take the company on his shoulders and let him run with it.
I totally agree. A.J. is a much better performer to compare to someone like Jeff Hardy no offense to Jeff Hardy fans, but I cannot tell you a good Jeff Hardy match without the use of a cage, tables, ladders, triangle matches, or chairs. And Joe is a much better worker/performer than Batista. Have Joe and A.J. be your flagships, at least WWE is smart enough to know Jeff Hardy and Batista even though their matches aren't memorable they are two flagship guys for WWE.
TNA is too gimmicky and shocking there still on tv. They gave joe the belt and it failed miserably because TNA were to scared to make it seem relevant. WE DON'T HAVE COMMERCIALS, lol good show.
hi guys great show as usual just one quick question. Seen as we are going into 2009 and this debate was in 2007 have any of you guys changed your views on the state of TNA are they the same/think its worse or improved?
tna has definately made me cringe a bit over the last few months (super eric, tuxedo match!) but i still much prefer it to the HHH show..sorry i mean wwe. this thing ther doing now with the main event mafia is nothing original but at least it gets the original guys together without stupid gimmicks so guys like eric young can really show what they can do
Christian Cage is a good wrestler wtf? and u guys said TNA missed out on monty brown and wut u guys love WWE?? WWE put him on ECW that just makes his pathetic right there and then was released right away basically nice they "missed" out on him on a even bigger level cuz they did nuthin with them
i have to say Eric this show is really cool(cept lawrence hes just annoying). i am not a tna nor wwe mark/fanboy, i just want both feds to kickass like the monday night wars era. i have to say though that i agree with most of ur points on tnas bullshit. i just hope tna stops being a bunch of jackasses and make the shows better and more entertaining. tell me what are ur thoughts of mick foley coming to tna? im a huge fan of his but i doubt he will draw
Thanks. As for Foley coming to TNA, first, I'm inclined to think he won't draw HUGE, but maybe a little. I don't see it as industry-changing, but all the same, good for both of them! Angle/Foley is at least a match that never happened, him & Abyss in a hardcore match would be interesting, him & Sting rematching their 1992 feud would be a little interesting if not unoriginal, but the match I'm really looking forward to is the Joe/Cactus match ROH never delivered on. He can only help TNA
hey love the show it would be a bit better if the long haired blonde guy let the black guy make points and not keep cutting across him . . . but in general the shows real good= )
i know i apologize,it was the first vid i watched by yous guys and Lawrences name escaped me (i know the intros are at the start was have a he who you do not mention style brain dead day!!lol)great vids
Don't feel that bad, heh, seems like it's a 50/50 whether people catch our names at ANY point, so at least 1. you're not alone 2. you know our names now! I hope ;) ha
I'm sure the reason WWE kept Heyman under contract for so long, paying him to stay at home, was specifically so he couldn't go to TNA. But now that they've got a team of Russo, Tenay, Jarrett, Mantell, Tayler, etc. it's not gonna happen. Plus, Heyman *says* he's done with wrestling anyway, and just as well. People need to stop believing if only Heyman would write a TV show wrestling would be saved. His time is over, let's move on.
How is his time over when he was responsible for the inital success of ECW on Scifi (Before it became the new HEAT)? that along wit the first One Night Stand PPVs were the best ECW looked since right before their TNN debut.
Um, b/c he's not under contract to anybody and says he doesn't want to do anything in wrestling anymore. Of course, Heyman's a liar, & this is wrestling so who knows if that'll last. That's not to say he wouldn't be able to positively influence things if TNA ever brought him in, but it's not happening, so don't get your hopes up or waste time thinking about it. Didn't he make enough contributions to wrestling? Enjoy the memories if they're there(like the Zombie, right?) & move on.
you assclowns got never putting down TNA and mocking it. after 16 years watching WWE i must say that i'm more entertained watching TNA then i am watching WWE now-a-day. and from what i've been hearing, TNA is beating WWE in ratings too. i've only been into TNA for about a month now, and to me WWE right now sucks.. TNA is gonna do what WCW couldn't do, they are alreading doing a hell of a job, i mean its impressive that they got Kurt Angle. and i know that more will follow. face it!
From what you're hearing? Who or where are you hearing that bullshit? TNA's never beaten ANY WWE show in the ratings, ever. That's a fact. What exactly is this crap you keep spouting about TNA doing what WCW didn't do? What is that exactly? Cause if it's beating WWE, WCW did that, TNA never has & doesn't look like they will for the foreseeable future. 'Face it" Face what? That TNA will continue signing any WWE reject they can get their hands on? That's for you to face, TNA apologist. Not me.
Firstly, thank you very much! Greatly appreciated. Secondly, it's a similar situation as WWE, who through the years has had veterans like Arn Anderson, Sgt. Slaughter, Dean Malenko, Michael Hayes, Jerry Lawler, Jim Ross, Pat Patterson, Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Barry Windham, Ricky Morton, Mike Rotundo, Ted Dibiase and now Ric Flair on their payroll, yet they depend so largely on ex-Hollywood writers. TNA can't even use the McMahons at the top as an excuse.
If you took TNA's roster and translated it over to WWE, you would have a few main eventers(excluding Samoa Joe), some mid-carders, and the other 80% jobbing on ECW.
Samoa Joe would not be a main eventer. Solid worker, but not marketable as a WWE main eventer. Although, Chris Benoit was a champion despite being a weak choice for promos so it all depends on timing sometimes.
Why isn't Joe marketable? TNA may not have gone all the way with him when it mattered, but I think his prominence there for one audience coupled with carrying ROH for years to another audience shows a LOT of people like, or will like, Joe, heh. He's unique because he's NOT a savage. He's credible, can speak, has a good look(yeah yeah he's fat, like Yokozuna never won a title at WrestleMania. I mean aside from that), and even IF he was just another 'Umaga', hey, Umaga's main evented, right? :)
Samoa Joe is definetly deserving of title shots, primarily because he's a good worker. Plus people cheer for him and he can speak like you said. But I don't see him as a top draw. You would know this better, has the ratings of TNA improved since he's been champion? Also, Umaga was pushed to the main event but ultimately didn't belong there. I think Joe would have the same fate in the WWE.
You just used the exact same argument TNA would use to get the title off of him(ratings). Firstly, you can't blame him for not popping a huge rating because TNA's never promoted him, or THEMSELVES, properly to do such things. Sting's re-debut is a rare case. It's only been a couple weeks anyway, but even so, until they do a better job promoting themselves, making their name known & overall improving the show, no one's gonna make that difference. And people bought Umaga as a main eventer
Samoa Joe has had all the opportunity to promote himself, through promos and matches. TNA, despite being run by monkeys, has always put Samoa Joe over. In the wrestling business, it's ultimately up to the wrestler to put himself over. There is no mainstream appeal in Samoa Joe, as the results show so far. At least, not in America.
1st of all, promote himself? You can say that about ANYbody who's on TV, even for a second. Point being, what diff. does it make how over Joe makes himself if TNA doesn't follow through on it? 'Always put Joe over' Um, really? B/c after Destination X when he lost to Christian when he should have won, can you really say that? Losing 1/2 the matches w/ Angle, including the 1st? Joe being as over as he is despite all this crap is a testament to his appeal. TNA itself isn't 'mainstream', heh.
i really dont want them to get rid of the x belt. they need to re create the x division and have it be like the good ole days with kick ass matches. 2 stars that i wanted to see get pushed were austin aries and senshi.
what do you guys think of haveing a suming like the wolfpac, with nash being the brain of the team n haveing team up with new talents, cuz the best thing i think in wrestling was when they had the split of nwo, even doh they dident sold it enough but it made normal guys into mainiventer
I was not a fan of the Wolfpack in the first place so you're asking the wrong guy, heh. And really - at this point, it'd be better for a younger guy to quickly, and decisively, beat Nash than to be his lacky, even though I did quite enjoy his chemistry with the X Division guys, specifically Alex Shelley. Sure, Konnan got over huge in the Wolfpack but 1. he was the only young star 2. They didn't go further with him for whatever reasons(injuries?). It could work, but I wouldn't go for it.
sorry i was goin for the wrong point,i meant like nash, hall and waltman 2thgher which is (the orignal wolfpac),but my pont was, that i just love the faction groups, nash n hall r really gd on the mic if they dont have script promos ,n they can really get some reaction from the crowd, n if u have some faction it helps 2 get some younger guys 2 ghter over, cuz i guy like scott hall ( i know not in best shape rite now) dosent care if he loses or wins ( not like hogan) as long as the crowd react,
Thank you, Switzerland sounds awesome! Haven't been there yet, but would love to go sometime. Anyway, as for the Wolfpack or groups, I think everyone gets caught up in the idea of 'old guy(s) giving the rub' But really, when did that ever happen? Every great faction I can think of (nWo originals, Hart Foundation, 4 Horsemen, etc.) were made up of already established names. If a new faction were to form, I'd say just put three young guys together & push them. Who? I dunno - MCMG & 1 other guy?
what about evoltion, got orton n batista more over,n i have 2 point out batista, cuz now he is soo boring n with the evolotion he got some reaction now , i cant be ask seeing a match of him cuz its so dull, but when he had flair or hhh on his corner or in a tag match they sold him betta.
but of coures it could be with younger guys as well, its just sooo boring at the monment cuz every ne kind have the some storyline, its always ,the manivent got two guys, then they gonna talk on the jericho reel or mvp loung then gd guy kicks somebody n then bullshit n after the bullshit is ppv,n tahn it replay with other guys,so i just hope they do suming new
but of coures it could be with younger guys as well, its just sooo boring at the moment cuz every match have the same storylines, its always ,the manivent got two guys, then they gonna talk on the jericho reel or mvp loung then gd guy kicks somebody n then there is some bullshit n after the bullshit is the ppv,n then it replay with other guys,so i just hope they do suming new,
I think Orton probably would have gotten just as over as he did if they had done his feud w/ Foley completely independent of Evolution. Granted, it helped in some angles like them ganging up on him or the handi-cap tag at WM, but really, I think Orton could have had a great feud that got him over just by feuding with Foley by himself. As for Batista, he really only got over when he turned on HHH, so who knows, maybe he would have been just as over independent of them & then stepped up to HHH?
just one more thing with faction is that it can make a babyface so much bigger n give more 2 the storyline like when orten had turn on hhh i think he go more pops cuz he had like three guys 2 beat ,n its making the fans more cheers 4 the babyface when he finally beats them, n thats how it was with ortan .
so its hyping up the main event cuz u basiclly wanna see then going one-one, when u have just 2 single wrestler the storyline just finishes 2 quickly,
Sorry, but you lost me here. Orton was not nearly as over as a face as he was as a heel. He was getting face pops as a heel! But they totally changed his character around as a face, so the things they liked him for (Cheating, cocky, etc.) were taken away, and he was made out to be a pussy. That's why they took the belt off of him so quick. & using Sting/Hogan as a storyline finishing too quickly? As you nuts? 1. It had a year & a half long build up 2. They dragged it out AFTER that match too
sorry is maby cuz of my english lol,but i but hoagon n sting for the best exmaple, for how they should do it more, like with not touching each other, sting hogan got the storyline i liked,my point was that now they do it 2 quickly,i mean i remaber when sting where finally faceing hogan it was sooo amazing cuz they made the fans wait soo long, where 2 day ppl fight just for 4 weeks till the first ppv coming up. so like i said hogan vs sting would be what i would like 2 see more often
Oh, ok, you're right, it wasn't very clear the first time, but you're right and I use that match build-up as a an example or standard on the show often. Thanks!
but anyway just wanna say thanks as well 2 ur buddys there, u got gd ppl in the round, with the 2 brothers n the music guy , n really kool 2 get a wrestler on ur table,
Thank you! We greatly appreciate your input, feedback and support. Hopefully we'll have more wrestlers on, but time will tell. In the meantime, even if I disagree or what not, thanks for your insights to the discussion. We hope for future contributions to our debates
Another problem with TNA is the commentating team, keep Tenay and replace Don West, with Kevin Nash and that would be a great team, keep Tenay from yelling during every spot and thats just 1 problem.
If you're going to replace West you might as well get rid of Tenay too, or make him a third-string guy like he did so well in WCW. Putting Nash on the mic. is just inviting embarrassment on your own product because he'll goof on everything, regardless of kayfabe. And as entertaining as that would be to me personally, if I'm Dixie Carter, I can't allow that to happen. Of course, it couldn't be worse than that Adamle guy, heh.
TNA serves its purpose, it's like a smaller version of what WCW was to WWE(F). And I think your way wrong about Christian, he's a good talker and I personally think he's paid some dues in wrestling. If you wanna talk about something that needs to go, talk about ECW! Are you kidding me?!?! This needs to go now man because like my homeboy would say it's not ECW, it's WWECW. I miss that old ECf'nW!
He's paid dues, sure, but I still don't like him at all, heh. As for the fake ECW, yeah, they might as well get rid of it. There shouldn't even BE a brand split, but I've been saying that for years, heh, and I know many people don't agree, but at the very least, ECW/Smackdown are pretty much merged anyway, so why not just kill it off? Make it ECW Smackdown if nothing else, but either way, let's get rid of SOMETHING useless
TNA is not good.bad storylines, bad characters, the mid-carders seem to botch moves alot. dumb names, too much relyance on Old WWE wrestlers. Reminds a little of mid 90's WCW. But to each his own.
I like samoa joe, but he's always gonna be an indie star. THe average fans don't like samoa joe. THey tune in, believe me, they tune in and say, "whos this cheezey fat guy." Because for all the smarks out there, none of them watch tna when it first started. That was yalls fault not to support something that couldn't been big. You are all so smart, but none of yall supported tna. THey had to go to this "catch a star" shit. They cant put the belt on joe. What legit wwe guy is gonna come in 2 lose?
You're nuts ; average fans don't like Samoa Joe? Joe was carrying that company for a long time. He may be fat, but people liked him because he comes across as a legit bad ass, and he's unique. He was a draw. & who cares when they started watching? You're turning this into a smart-mark dick measuring contest. It's not like TNA is, or even has been, truly worth supporting, because it's a far cry from the alternative it pretends to be.And I make YOU ashamed to be a fan? YALL!
ratings dont mean shit they dont earn money the reason wcw lost money wasnt because of ratings it was because of things like ppv ratings and house shows and merchandise tna havnt done big on anything on those departments
If ratings didn't mean shit,WSX would still be on the air & WWE wouldn't panic everytime they have a huge dip.Of course ratings earn $.You think a sponsors wants to advertise on a show no one watches? There were plenty of reasons WCW got sold, but ratings were life back then & losing was a big problem in their minds.Any one else remember 'Tues. mornings?'Still, even at the end WCW was still TNT's highest rated show, but we all know why that didn't matter...I hope, heh.
what i meant was wcw didnt lose most money cos the ratings fell just like tna isnt losing most of their money cos their rating sucks its simple advertising is different to ratings correct me if im wrong but dont most advertisments use their stuff to promote on the ppvs besideds how else wass wsx gonna survive on ppvs ha
Ok, point taken, but let's remember TNA's ratings are actually good for Spike. They're not competing with WWE by far, by they're good aside from that. & what I meant by advertisers is outside of wrestling ; Granted, wrestling has a stigma that detours them in the 1st place, but I think a company would lean more towards advertising w/ a wrestling company if they were doing 1999/2000 RAW numbers for instance
yeah im just pissed tna are doing what they are doing do u think they know how bad their product is doing ive heard countless people say russo including himself say he is not booking the show but do u think that tna may just be saying that so fans cannot blame him for the downfall of tna
No, it's true. I mean, Russo is on the booking team, but it's not solely on his shoulders like most fans seem to assume. They obviously don't know how bad they suck because they keep on doing it that way, heh. The midcarders know it sucks, though. But they've got their 1.1 tuning in every week. They can only get a fraction of their fans to buy their PPVs, though, & it's questionable how big their following is.
fact is i dont know shit about the wrestling business but im smart enough to realise that u cant copy a million dollar or billion dollar product its just stupid u have a ppv every month a two hour tv show each week is it that hard to set them selves out as a alternative tna dont have excuses anymore
Correct. TNA isn't an alternative. It's Reject City. What's a WWF fan supposed to think if they tune in and see Angle, Christian, Booker & Nash running around? All the Ultimate X matches in the world don't mean shit unless you go all the way. You seem to know some shit, heh, and TNA has all the capabilities in the world of making something of themselves, but, like usual in wrestling, their own worst enemy is themselves
i have to say as a wwe fan i love to watch tna make fools of themselves so these tna fans that defend can look real stupid but i do watch it and i think what they are doing with aj styles is stupid. tell me if you agree back in lets say 2005 2006 when you heard the name tna who was the first person to come to your mind mines was aj styles o yea p.s another mistake they made was breaking up probaly the best original tag team since 2003 americas most wanted
I think you're not unique in that a lot of WWE fans, when they see TNA(If they ever do), laugh at it b/c it's obvious they try too much to be like WWE. I actually associate AJ more with TNA back in 02/03, but he's been a name for them for a while, and it's b/c of his athletic ability, not a stupid crown or 'marrying' Karen Angle. I tend to agree w/ you about AMW esp. b/c tag teams are dead & so TNA should promote them, but one could also say their run was over after 5 yrs
i think another problem with tna is the guys they have in creative. do u remember the last big house dutch mantell drew? mike tenay? r u fricking kidding me?! jeremy borash. dear lord
I don't see what that's got to do with it. I assume you mean that they were never a draw themselves as opposed to them running a successful show, of course. And if that is what you meant, I don't necessarily see how that affects whether their writing is good or not. Bischoff or Russo never wrestled or drew houses before they became successful bookers. I think it's just their perspective that's stopping them. The 'wrestling bubble' as Nash put it.
i think joe had all the monument after his amazing match against christian cage at Bound for Glory but they depushed him by putting him in a mindless feud with robert roode
Actually, I think Joe should have won the belt at Destination X(his first shot), period. He had an amazing entrance with the Fire dancers, it was his first shot and losing to Christian, no matter how he cheated, was so ridiculously unbelievable. It was so the time!

And interestingly since Hogan's signing was announced the PPV's of TNA have had less gimmick matches and 4 excellent matches with the core guys of Aj Styles,Daniels,Samoa Joe,Desmond Wolfe and Kurt Angle
Only one veteran
MrPerfect2000Z 2 years ago
Russo is on the way out (for like the sixth time) again, but Hogan / Bischoff have not figured out how to get Russo out of his contract yet. Daniels is a job boy for 1999 comedy act Val Venus, Styles is now a Flair clone, Sloppy Joe is jobbed and kidnapped, and Nigel's piece of ass valet is the only thing TNA is doing with him. Bischoff / Hogan are their usual bull and bluster, but have not improved business. TNA is wasting money like it is the USA government and not drawing a penny at all.
MRobert21 2 years ago
Until TNA is fully committed to promoting original stars, they won't make any progress. Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Abyss, and all the other guys who got there first TV exposure on TNA should be on top of the company by now.
As much as I love Kurt Angle (I still have my original "3 I's" t-shirt after all these years), he needs to be putting over the new talent. Especially since he may end up in jail soon.
logan48227 2 years ago
I have the American By Birth, Angry By Choice Angle shirt (I have a 3 I hat) and I think Angle has no place in a wrestling ring any more at all. McMahon was right when he told Angle he was sending him to drug rehab then phasing him out as a wrestler because Angle is mentally and physically messed up. As far as all the alleged TNA originals (who were stolen from ROH) go, they have all been tried on top and flopped. Just let TNA die and start over fresh I say because TNA can not be fixed.
MRobert21 2 years ago
TNA can be fixed. They already have better in-ring product than WWE. The trick is to match that up with good writing.
TNA is WCW 2.0, especially now that they've brought in all the WWE rejects & old timers. And just like WCW, TNA seems to have some decent ideas but doesn't know what to do with them. They haven't found their nWo story yet. Until they can put out some great storylines, TNA is doomed to being a distant second to Vince.
logan48227 2 years ago
Sure TNA is the best in ring product, if you like crippled has beens, stoned drug addicts, flippy dippy midgets, a million run ins, and confusing crap gimmick matches. WWF is a few icons who can still go (HHH, HBK, Undertaker, etc.) with all the best young, physical, talent (Cena, Orton, Miz, etc.). The last thing TNA needs is another NWO because they have tried doing the NWO over again at least 10 times including KOW, SEX, MEM, the Band, etc. Jarretts sucked and then Dixie made it all worse.
MRobert21 2 years ago
I don't mean that TNA needs to replicate the actual nWo, just that they need a hot story that gets attention like the nWo did for WCW at first.
And considering that WWE put the strap on a stoned drug addict, I wouldn't say they get any points either. They were just lucky that Hardy asked for a vacation before he got caught with the drugs.
logan48227 2 years ago
All the wrestling stories have been done before, so no 1 story is going to make TNA work. A company that did a crap 1.1 TV rating last week and put 1,200 people in seats in a 17,000 seat building is dead. Druggie Hardy did not ask for vacation as his deal expired and he refused to sign a new deal because he was tired of McMahon forcing him to be sober via constant piss tests. Hardy likes drugs more than cash or fame, so he knew he could go to the minor league that hires all of the WWF cast offs
MRobert21 2 years ago
Yes all the wrestling stories have been done. nWo is ripped off from New Japan, but it still worked because it was something different in America. Maybe it won't be something new, just a fresh take on something old.
TNA just needs to do something, because WWE & its formula are tired & stale. Wrestling needs competition, period. TNA, at least right now, is the best competitor to WWE. So I'd like to see them become a viable 2nd option.
logan48227 2 years ago
NWO worked because they lied and said it was a WWF invasion, which is never going to be done again because WCW lost a law suit to WWF that cost WCW millions of dollars and gave WWF the right to buy WCW if it was ever sold. TNA has tried to be a 1 trick pony for years and no 1 story is going to make a whole company from out of nothing. Wrestling needs to be like all major league sports with 1 major league (WWF), a developmental system (FCW), and foreign leagues (Japan, Mexico, et cetera). End TNA
MRobert21 2 years ago

And some people care about Sting
morbidanjel44 2 years ago
I totally agree. A.J. is a much better performer to compare to someone like Jeff Hardy no offense to Jeff Hardy fans, but I cannot tell you a good Jeff Hardy match without the use of a cage, tables, ladders, triangle matches, or chairs. And Joe is a much better worker/performer than Batista. Have Joe and A.J. be your flagships, at least WWE is smart enough to know Jeff Hardy and Batista even though their matches aren't memorable they are two flagship guys for WWE.

Um, b/c he's not under contract to anybody and says he doesn't want to do anything in wrestling anymore. Of course, Heyman's a liar, & this is wrestling so who knows if that'll last. pecker213323 3 years ago
If you took TNA's roster and translated it over to WWE, you would have a few main eventers(excluding Samoa Joe), some mid-carders, and the other 80% jobbing on ECW.
bdomino2112 3 years ago
Um, does this mean Joe would or wouldn't be a main eventer? I'm not sure if I read you right.
-E, Wrestling Roundtable
WrestlingRoundtable 3 years ago
Samoa Joe would not be a main eventer. Solid worker, but not marketable as a WWE main eventer. Although, Chris Benoit was a champion despite being a weak choice for promos so it all depends on timing sometimes.
bdomino2112 3 years ago
Why isn't Joe marketable? TNA may not have gone all the way with him when it mattered, but I think his prominence there for one audience coupled with carrying ROH for years to another audience shows a LOT of people like, or will like, Joe, heh. He's unique because he's NOT a savage. He's credible, can speak, has a good look(yeah yeah he's fat, like Yokozuna never won a title at WrestleMania. I mean aside from that), and even IF he was just another 'Umaga', hey, Umaga's main evented, right? :)
-E
WrestlingRoundtable 3 years ago
Samoa Joe is definetly deserving of title shots, primarily because he's a good worker. Plus people cheer for him and he can speak like you said. But I don't see him as a top draw. You would know this better, has the ratings of TNA improved since he's been champion? Also, Umaga was pushed to the main event but ultimately didn't belong there. I think Joe would have the same fate in the WWE.
bdomino2112 3 years ago
You just used the exact same argument TNA would use to get the title off of him(ratings). Firstly, you can't blame him for not popping a huge rating because TNA's never promoted him, or THEMSELVES, properly to do such things. Sting's re-debut is a rare case. It's only been a couple weeks anyway, but even so, until they do a better job promoting themselves, making their name known & overall improving the show, no one's gonna make that difference. And people bought Umaga as a main eventer
-E
WrestlingRoundtable 3 years ago
Samoa Joe has had all the opportunity to promote himself, through promos and matches. TNA, despite being run by monkeys, has always put Samoa Joe over. In the wrestling business, it's ultimately up to the wrestler to put himself over. There is no mainstream appeal in Samoa Joe, as the results show so far. At least, not in America.
bdomino2112 3 years ago
1st of all, promote himself? You can say that about ANYbody who's on TV, even for a second. Point being, what diff. does it make how over Joe makes himself if TNA doesn't follow through on it? 'Always put Joe over' Um, really? B/c after Destination X when he lost to Christian when he should have won, can you really say that? Losing 1/2 the matches w/ Angle, including the 1st? Joe being as over as he is despite all this crap is a testament to his appeal. TNA itself isn't 'mainstream', heh.

Jakob618 3 years ago

Every great faction I can think of (nWo originals, Hart Foundation, 4 Horsemen, etc.) were made up of already established names. If a new faction were to form, I'd say just put three young guys together & push them. Who? I dunno - MCMG & 1 other guy?

I think Orton probably would have gotten just as over as he did if they had done his feud w/ Foley completely independent of Evolution. Granted, it helped in some angles like them ganging up on him or the handi-cap tag at WM, but really, I think Orton could have had a great feud that got him over just by feuding with Foley by himself. As for Batista, he really only got over when he turned on HHH, so who knows, maybe he would have been just as over independent of them & then stepped up to HHH?

just one more thing with faction is that it can make a babyface so much bigger n give more 2 the storyline like when orten had turn on hhh i think he go more pops cuz he had like three guys 2 beat ,n its making the fans more cheers 4 the babyface when he finally beats them, n thats how it was with ortan .
so its hyping up the main event cuz u basiclly wanna see then going one-one, when u have just 2 single wrestler the storyline just finishes 2 quickly,
(best example sting vs hogan 97)
Jakob618 3 years ago
Sorry, but you lost me here. Orton was not nearly as over as a face as he was as a heel. He was getting face pops as a heel! But they totally changed his character around as a face, so the things they liked him for (Cheating, cocky, etc.) were taken away, and he was made out to be a pussy. That's why they took the belt off of him so quick. & using Sting/Hogan as a storyline finishing too quickly? As you nuts? 1. It had a year & a half long build up 2. They dragged it out AFTER that match too
-E

sorry is maby cuz of my english lol,but i but hoagon n sting for the best exmaple, for how they should do it more, like with not touching each other, sting hogan got the storyline i liked,my point was that now they do it 2 quickly,i mean i remaber when sting where finally faceing hogan it was sooo amazing cuz they made the fans wait soo long, where 2 day ppl fight just for 4 weeks till the first ppv coming up. so like i said hogan vs sting would be what i would like 2 see more often

Another problem with TNA is the commentating team, keep Tenay and replace Don West, with Kevin Nash and that would be a great team, keep Tenay from yelling during every spot and thats just 1 problem.
Panama0815 3 years ago 2

There shouldn't even BE a brand split, but I've been saying that for years, heh, and I know many people don't agree, but at the very least, ECW/Smackdown are pretty much merged anyway, so why not just kill it off? If ratings didn't mean shit,WSX would still be on the air & WWE wouldn't panic everytime they have a huge dip.Of course ratings earn $.You think a sponsors wants to advertise on a show no one watches? There were plenty of reasons WCW got sold, but ratings were life back then & losing was a big problem in their minds.Any one else remember 'Tues. mornings?'Still, even at the end WCW was still TNT's highest rated show, but we all know why that didn't matter...I hope, heh.

what i meant was wcw didnt lose most money cos the ratings fell just like tna isnt losing most of their money cos their rating sucks its simple advertising is different to ratings correct me if im wrong but dont most advertisments use their stuff to promote on the ppvs besideds how else wass wsx gonna survive on ppvs ha
rochmeone 4 years ago
Ok, point taken, but let's remember TNA's ratings are actually good for Spike. They're not competing with WWE by far, by they're good aside from that. & what I meant by advertisers is outside of wrestling ; Granted, wrestling has a stigma that detours them in the 1st place, but I think a company would lean more towards advertising w/ a wrestling company if they were doing 1999/2000 RAW numbers for instance

yeah im just pissed tna are doing what they are doing do u think they know how bad their product is doing ive heard countless people say russo including himself say he is not booking the show but do u think that tna may just be saying that so fans cannot blame him for the downfall of tna
rochmeone 4 years ago
No, it's true. I mean, Russo is on the booking team, but it's not solely on his shoulders like most fans seem to assume. They obviously don't know how bad they suck because they keep on doing it that way, heh. The midcarders know it sucks, though. But they've got their 1.1 tuning in every week. They can only get a fraction of their fans to buy their PPVs, though, & it's questionable how big their following is.

fact is i dont know shit about the wrestling business but im smart enough to realise that u cant copy a million dollar or billion dollar product its just stupid u have a ppv every month a two hour tv show each week is it that hard to set them selves out as a alternative tna dont have excuses anymore
rochmeone 4 years ago
Correct. TNA isn't an alternative. It's Reject City. What's a WWF fan supposed to think if they tune in and see Angle, Christian, Booker & Nash running around? All the Ultimate X matches in the world don't mean shit unless you go all the way. You seem to know some shit, heh, and TNA has all the capabilities in the world of making something of themselves, but, like usual in wrestling, their own worst enemy is themselves

i have to say as a wwe fan i love to watch tna make fools of themselves so these tna fans that defend can look real stupid but i do watch it and i think what they are doing with aj styles is stupid. tell me if you agree back in lets say 2005 2006 when you heard the name tna who was the first person to come to your mind mines was aj styles o yea p.s another mistake they made was breaking up probaly the best original tag team since 2003 americas most wanted
codejjm 4 years ago
I think you're not unique in that a lot of WWE fans, when they see TNA(If they ever do), laugh at it b/c it's obvious they try too much to be like WWE. I actually associate AJ more with TNA back in 02/03, but he's been a name for them for a while, and it's b/c of his athletic ability, not a stupid crown or 'marrying' Karen Angle. I tend to agree w/ you about AMW esp. b/c tag teams are dead & so TNA should promote them, but one could also say their run was over after 5 yrs

i think another problem with tna is the guys they have in creative. do u remember the last big house dutch mantell drew? mike tenay? r u fricking kidding me?! jeremy borash. dear lord
chrisz31974 4 years ago
I don't see what that's got to do with it. I assume you mean that they were never a draw themselves as opposed to them running a successful show, of course. And if that is what you meant, I don't necessarily see how that affects whether their writing is good or not. Bischoff or Russo never wrestled or drew houses before they became successful bookers. I think it's just their perspective that's stopping them. The 'wrestling bubble' as Nash put it.

i think joe had all the monument after his amazing match against christian cage at Bound for Glory but they depushed him by putting him in a mindless feud with robert roode
instantclassicg1 4 years ago
Actually, I think Joe should have won the belt at Destination X(his first shot), period. He had an amazing entrance with the Fire dancers, it was his first shot and losing to Christian, no matter how he cheated, was so ridiculously unbelievable. It was so the time!
