handles sharply with more than enough power to get up hills (and i drive up hills everyday to work), and on long drives i can still easily get 30mpg. i just moved a twin sized mattress *inside* the car in one trip (with lots of other stuff inside), and a huge 6 ft tall desk with accompanying chair in another...size definitely isn't as much of an issue as i thought. just brilliant!

For those that didn't know that Kia is a sister company the new Sportage 2011 is made on the same platform and use the same engine but looks sportier and masculine if you ask me. They both look good it's just a matter of taste.

@AmericanCars101 ok, lets try this, Tucson is $24000, while CRV or RAV4 is $25500, comparable equipped. After 5 years, Tucson worth less than $13000, while Crv and Rav4 are above $17000. so $11k for Tucson, $8500 to drive Cv or R4. do the math people.
What can I say I really love the car so far and I would consider it money well spent. For those who are on the fence because of performance maybe wait a few months because there is a rumor saying that Hyundai will release a turbo charged version of the Tucson to compete with the CX7.
The ride is a little stiff. (Doesn't eat up the bumps as smoothly as I think it should)
This one is weird because I have never experienced it before but thigh support in all seats seems lacking (Base of the seats seem short they don't run the length of the thighs)
Cargo room is a little bit smaller than the competitors.
No chrome tip for the exhaust? (Seems weird for a limited model)
As I promised here is my review: I picked up my Limited on 1/28/10 and here are my impressions. Likes: Quite good performance for a 4CYL. So far I have drove it on icy roads and through snow...no complaints. Steering/road feel. Interior design is fantastic. Exterior design is getting a lot of attention. All the controls are easy to reach and pretty straight forward. Panoramic sunroof . The interior heats up really fast. Leg room front and rear - I'm 5'10" and I have plenty of room
Unlike most car companies, I'm glad Hyundai didn't make the Tucson any bigger for this redesign. I have the 2006 model and it's been great driving in the city or when the roads gets rough.
I agree..From his first word I know what he is going to say. yeah, he looks and talks childish. Hyundai certainly earned its reliability and I have compared. Hyundai with otherJap. models in same catagory. Always the interior quality stands out. Toyota replaced all the sound damping soft material with hard plastic looks soft. Even with top model you still have to pay for accessories..
I was happy wih the features included like the dual climate control and the panaramic sun roof.
Also the power was pretty good for a 4cyl. It didn't have any troubles pushing through he snow here and when I jammed down hard on the breaks it stopped on a dime.
I will write a follow up message after I get to really drive it next weekend.
The Goal for KIA is to also beat Mazda in terms of performance as well in the long term.
The Hyundai isnt tuned to be a dynamic driver as well. Its just tuned for a decent fuel economy to power ratio.
It has a better interior than that God Awful Chrysler Pacifica, and thats the whole point. Provide a better interior than many of the dying NEAR Luxury Makes and good MPG.
If you want something with a more dynamic driving feel get the Sportage. It will be on lots in 3-4 weeks.
Generally in real world, Hyundai has been selling their cars much less than your calculation. Why don't you look for local tv ads and news papers for Huundai & Kia deals? They also have periodic cash rebates quiet often, much more so than Hondas or Toyotas. You talk of the 'real world' but that seem drastically different than where I live here in Washington state.

I might as well start early. Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus doesnt excite me at all, wth their Baby Boomer designs.
Hyundai wants to be the Fuel efficient Premium car company. It will take a very long time for the established Premium makes to get good MPG, especially the leading MPG that Hyundai provides.
Hyundai is going to take advantage of that, while refining their products more futher in terms of premium equippment.
By the tme the the average Premium make catches up to Hyundai in fuel economy. Hyundais will be refined enough for everybody even skeptics to consider them as premium cars.
That Tuscon is 3 times more premium than the frst Lexus small SUV product.
They are going back to their old strategy. This time however, against Luxury companies rather than Economy Car companies. Bring out somewhat competive cars, price them at cut rates, provide good fuel. That's what Genesis means, the birth of the "New Hyundai."
Edmunds Inside line says you should cross shop both CRV and RDX and compare with Tucson, as this truck fits nicely in between both products.

I test drove the Tucson a week ago and was thinking to buy. When it come down to the price I was very disappointed. The price for the limited was $29,899. For that much I can buy loaded RAV4 or CR-V and they are both better cars than the Tucson.
After 3-4 years you can very easily sell your Honda or Toyota for half the purchasing price. Try to sell your Hyundai!

What RAV 4 and CRV have leather seats, much less the heated leather seats available in the Tucson at that price? CRV and RAV4 have cloth ineriors only on all trims. You can get leather in the Base Tucson just for $1700 You're flat out lying, dude.

Most of the dealerships don't have the base model at all. They start with he so called loaded GLS or the Limited. The loaded GLS is $26,899 adn the Limited is $29,899.

I'm not telling you that the Tucson is a bad car, but I will consider to buy one only if its cheaper !
I think this thing looks great!!! Im waiting to hear from a guy at the local Hyundai to get back to me so I can go take one of these for a ride.I really like the thing and you can get a GLS AWD for about 30k, which comes pretty well equipped. I don't think its terribly overpriced like a few others think because you always pay for utility. I just paid $26900 6 months ago for a 2010 Toyota Matrix XRS and it quite frankly sucks for the $. Optional turbo 2L is available for tucson next year!
You have made a poor comparison . The RDX is $41,885 with FRT & PDI no Gst or Pst. The TSX is $34,885 with FRT & PDI no taxes. Acura is a premium brand thus it has to better than a Hyundai . Come on!! The RDX is just a CR-V on steroids . It's got a 2.3ltre turbo charged motor good for 240hp. They just don't compare. If it was the CR-V I could see some comparison , the Tucson has 176hp the Crv has 180hp. They are roughly the same size.You can get the CSX for $28,885. Forget the EX35 too. Enjoy

I had the chance to see the new Tucson and I can say that there is much more to say about it!
The interior quality is very good and it is put together very nice! The seats are the best in the class. The driving position is superb and the it has very nice feeling whale driving!
The leather is the best in the class too. I was one of the guys who was never going to consider Hyundai, but the game has changed!
The base price is $18K the ultimate 4x4 model is around $25K.

@AmericanCars101 ok, lets try this, Tucson is $24000, while CRV or RAV4 is $25500, comparable equipped. After 5 years, Tucson worth less than $13000, while Crv and Rav4 are above $17000. so $11k for Tucson, $8500 to drive Cv or R4. do the math people.

What can I say I really love the car so far and I would consider it money well spent. For those who are on the fence because of performance maybe wait a few months because there is a rumor saying that Hyundai will release a turbo charged version of the Tucson to compete with the CX7.

This one is weird because I have never experienced it before but thigh support in all seats seems lacking (Base of the seats seem short they don't run the length of the thighs)
Cargo room is a little bit smaller than the competitors.
No chrome tip for the exhaust? (Seems weird for a limited model)

Unlike most car companies, I'm glad Hyundai didn't make the Tucson any bigger for this redesign. I have the 2006 model and it's been great driving in the city or when the roads gets rough.

I agree..From his first word I know what he is going to say. yeah, he looks and talks childish. Hyundai certainly earned its reliability and I have compared. Hyundai with otherJap. models in same catagory. Always the interior quality stands out. Toyota replaced all the sound damping soft material with hard plastic looks soft. Even with top model you still have to pay for accessories..

Just purchased a Limited. Pick it up Thursday.
I was happy wih the features included like the dual climate control and the panaramic sun roof.
Also the power was pretty good for a 4cyl. It didn't have any troubles pushing through he snow here and when I jammed down hard on the breaks it stopped on a dime.
I will write a follow up message after I get to really drive it next weekend.

New Hyundai interiors=look like a Chic upscale Chipotle Bar in Downtown Chicago or someting.

The Goal for KIA is to also beat Mazda in terms of performance as well in the long term.
The Hyundai isnt tuned to be a dynamic driver as well. Its just tuned for a decent fuel economy to power ratio.
It has a better interior than that God Awful Chrysler Pacifica, and thats the whole point. Provide a better interior than many of the dying NEAR Luxury Makes and good MPG.
If you want something with a more dynamic driving feel get the Sportage. It will be on lots in 3-4 weeks.

There is no dealership selling the Tucson for $21K ... that price is just on paper. The GLS loaded + taxes + fees Tucson comes for around $30K.
And the Limited +taxes + fees somes for around $33K.
Just go to the real world and check the prices!

Generally in real world, Hyundai has been selling their cars much less than your calculation. Why don't you look for local tv ads and news papers for Huundai & Kia deals? They also have periodic cash rebates quiet often, much more so than Hondas or Toyotas. You talk of the 'real world' but that seem drastically different than where I live here in Washington state.

Not anymore. toyota companies have their one leg under the ground because of their gas pedal problems and honda's also has a lot of recalls on their reak problems. I had a 2008 prius and aftef all the death and scary moments that the toyota owners had experienced, I have decided to trade in my car and bought me a 2010 tuscon,

If youre looking for a true RAV4/CRV competitor, the Next Gen KIA Sportage that will debut in 3 weeks at Chicago is it.
Tucson is a notch above those.

The Rav4 and the CR-V are both introduced 3-4 years ago. They are both better cars than the Current Tucson.
I drove the Tucson. It can never be compered with Toyota's refinement or driving experience.
The Tucson is underpowered and much noisier than the RAV4.
No reason to compare the Tucson with CR-V. Honda's iVtec just blows away the Tucson!
No KIA can ever compete with Honda or Toyota, only and ignorant can compare those brands!

OK I drove the Tucson and I can say one think... its engine is not as lively as the RAV4's or Hondas iVtech.
It gets 1-2 MPG better gas millage but in low RPMs it is a disaster!
Good think I didn't buy it!

Digital, yeah becuase you get Genesis levels of equppiment in a Limited its priced like that.
The thing is Honda and Toyota are Economy car companies, and Hyundai is trying to be a premium company. Its priced like that because of the extra features.
People want MPG, but they dont want to ride in 90s interiors like the Toy/Lex either.

Hyundai wants to be the Fuel efficient Premium car company. It will take a very long time for the established Premium makes to get good MPG, especially the leading MPG that Hyundai provides.
Hyundai is going to take advantage of that, while refining their products more futher in terms of premium equippment.
By the tme the the average Premium make catches up to Hyundai in fuel economy. Hyundais will be refined enough for everybody even skeptics to consider them as premium cars.

That Tuscon is 3 times more premium than the frst Lexus small SUV product.
They are going back to their old strategy. This time however, against Luxury companies rather than Economy Car companies. Bring out somewhat competive cars, price them at cut rates, provide good fuel. That's what Genesis means, the birth of the "New Hyundai."
Edmunds Inside line says you should cross shop both CRV and RDX and compare with Tucson, as this truck fits nicely in between both products.

By the way Jim4575, Hyundai is slowly but surely becoming a premium brand. We have KIA to sell our Economy Cars now, 2 Economy brands under the same roof makes no sense at all.
Just remember that Sonata has 3 less HP Standard than the Lexus IS 250. The Lex is a V6 and the Sonata isa fucking 4 banger=WITH 9 MORE MPG!!!!
The Tucson will get the the same Sonata GDI soon.

I test drove the Tucson a week ago and was thinking to buy. When it come down to the price I was very disappointed. The price for the limited was $29,899. For that much I can buy loaded RAV4 or CR-V and they are both better cars than the Tucson.
After 3-4 years you can very easily sell your Honda or Toyota for half the purchasing price. Try to sell your Hyundai!
The dealers are shooting themselves in the leg by overpricing the Tucson. So bad for them... Sorry Tucson but you was born death!

Most of the dealerships don't have the base model at all. They start with he so called loaded GLS or the Limited. The loaded GLS is $26,899 adn the Limited is $29,899.
I will never buy a Tucson just because of the leather. For the same price both the Toyota and the Honda are better cars than Hyundai.
I'm not telling you that the Tucson is a bad car, but I will consider to buy one only if its cheaper !

I think this thing looks great!!! Im waiting to hear from a guy at the local Hyundai to get back to me so I can go take one of these for a ride.I really like the thing and you can get a GLS AWD for about 30k, which comes pretty well equipped. I don't think its terribly overpriced like a few others think because you always pay for utility. I just paid $26900 6 months ago for a 2010 Toyota Matrix XRS and it quite frankly sucks for the $. Optional turbo 2L is available for tucson next year!

You have made a poor comparison . The RDX is $41,885 with FRT & PDI no Gst or Pst. The TSX is $34,885 with FRT & PDI no taxes. Acura is a premium brand thus it has to better than a Hyundai . Come on!! The RDX is just a CR-V on steroids . It's got a 2.3ltre turbo charged motor good for 240hp. They just don't compare. If it was the CR-V I could see some comparison , the Tucson has 176hp the Crv has 180hp. They are roughly the same size.You can get the CSX for $28,885. Forget the EX35 too. Enjoy

I'm willing to buy a Hyundai only and only if its good and cheap. $33K for a Hyundai Tucson is just too much.
I better go to the second hand market and get something 1-2 years old... Also the 2.4L angine is underpowered and far from Toyota's refinement or Infiniti's power!

Give it some time and the price will go down, it always does. Ok I would agree a 1-2 yr old RDX,EX35 or RX 350 are far superior for the money.
Well the 2.4 is some what underpowered but it is new and they should increase it to at least 200hp without a turbo.Can't beat Toyota refinement. Period.
What about the $50k Equus??? Ouch!!
I just looked at Rav4,CR-V they can easily go to $40k loaded. 179hp for the Rav and 180hp for the Honda. 176 for Hyundai more hp needed.
I'd take the TSX 2.4 200hp

I had the chance to see the new Tucson and I can say that there is much more to say about it!
The interior quality is very good and it is put together very nice! The seats are the best in the class. The driving position is superb and the it has very nice feeling whale driving!
The leather is the best in the class too. I was one of the guys who was never going to consider Hyundai, but the game has changed!
The base price is $18K the ultimate 4x4 model is around $25K.

Ok...this guy kept on saying the car is not big...and kept comparing it with Rav 4. The thing here is, THE RAV4 IS NOT LONGER A SMALL SUV, it is may be as big as the Santa Fe, so, Tucson is not competing with Rav4 in size. Hyundai is not gonna make the Tucson as big as Santa Fe, because they dont want them to compete against each other. I really think Tucson has a good size if you are looking for a real Small SUV, and not a "small=medium" SUV.

Dude, hard tourch feeling surfaces is concrete, hard leather, raw wood, rusty metal, etc.....Please get MAN HANDS and then touch something. I really dont know what he means with that stupid statement. The actual dashboard in this car, like in other Hyundai models, is soft to touch and kind of cushioned if you press it.
