It was tough to see, but it looked like it was probably a Yellow Rat snake. A fairly big'un, too. They're benign and harmless, unless you keep small rodents around the yard as pets...

I think snakes are cool. I had Garter snakes as pets from when I was 10 or so, had a Black Ringneck that ruled a terrarium here for years. I have no fear at all of nonpoisonous snakes, just fascination. Poisonous snakes do scare me. They can hurt you, and we have a few in Fla that can flat out kill you.

It *could* be a corn snake, or a yellow rat, because they do have a similar mottled appearance. You couldn't really tell with the lighting and reflections, and rat snakes are a bit more common here, so... Either way, though, they're not at all dangerous, and normally timid. I'd be far more worried about the snake than Eddie. The worst such a chew toy could do to him would be bite him on the lip and leave a bruise. And make him look around for another chew toy. LOL

What a neat looking snake!! We just have the plain boring looking ones here. I love looking at reptiles. The last time I visited Florida I just loved watching all the geckos around the hotel patio. I would love to see a nice looking snake like that one.

Now I have to go over to Holly's channel to hear the snake story....

Happy Birthday Holly's Dad!!! I've been sick for five days now with a killer head cold, I can't seem to shake it. Ahhhhhhhhh! I HATE snakes! It's hard to tell, but it looks like a corn snake, or what some call a rat snake. LOL at not being able to tell the snake story. My mom is like that too, if she even see's a snake on TV she has a MAJOR freak out! Needless to say, we've pranked her a lot growing up with rubber snakes lol.

If you want to identify them just type in Florida Backyard Snakes and it will bring up a list of venomous and non venomous snakes in Florida.

It's a cornsnake or more commonly called red ratsnake and they are non-venomous. They make excellent pets if you like having a snake for a pet.  They eat rodents, lizards, and frogs. The snake was probably looking for it's dinner. I see them and the black racers all the time. I was riding my bike through the local park one time and saw one called a coachwhip and I went to pick it up and move it and it took off.
