@baublemoon It's because Sesame Street has always been about throwing in references and celebrities that no kids will recognice as a treat for the parents. The reason this works is because they also make sure to make these parts interesting/silly/funny enough for the children to enjoy as well.
"I'm not the postman--I'm the postwoman." Nowadays, the term used is "letter carrier." Also, "The King and the Fireman" would probably call him a "firefighter." I like how they totally rip on the gender-specific word "postman."
Why didn't the postwoman just give Grover the letter? In fact, it kind of looked like she was pulling it back as he reached for it. like she didn't trust him or something.
I think she did that because the people that arrived at Grover's house before she did was because a few people besides Grover were expecting one as well, and therefore I think Grover fainted because he must have known that he was the first to get the letter and in which the others cut in front of him and therefore he didn't seem quite happy with that situation because he was supposed to get his letter first. What do you think?
Maybe she was a little confused on which person was Grover since there were a lot of people in Grover's house, and because all the people in Grover's house were coming up to her saying that they're all expecting an important letter. (I guess if Grover showed some ID to her, she would know that Grover is the owner of that house where she would have given the letter to him).
Can anyone please explain to me why Carroll Spinney rarely voices the Muppets for these skits on Sesame Street? It's usually Jim Henson, Frank Oz, Richard Hunt, Jerry Nelson, Fran Brill, etc.
@triviaer Carroll would do alot of Anything Muppets in 1969-early 1971, but then he decided to stick with Big Bird and Oscar, since those are two of his most popular characters, I wish he had the confidence to do AM's again, because some of his AM voices I really like, like that farmer in "The Magic Apple"
This might've been one of the last Monsterpiece Theater skits to use the Union Jack intro. I'm guessing this is from 1989-1991. And was Noel MacNeal involved with Sesame Street in the 1989-1991 period? The florist sounds like him.
Groves freaked the fuck out! Damn blue!

If the postman (or postwoman) always rings twice, then:
The baker always rings once;
The cookie salesman always rings three times;
The furniture movers always ring four times;
The florist always rings five times;
The cobbler always rings six times;
And the dry cleaner always ring seven times.

Grover's Action Image at 1:00 seems to match the picture seen on Season 24's Opening for Monsterpiece Theater.

Yeah, I liked that, too. Whenever that "shock music" plays, they stare straight into the camera like they're scared or something.

Sounds like Fran Brill to me.
MuppetDude 3 years ago 2
Yeah I think the postwoman is voiced by Fran Brill.
I can also tell that the other voices are:
Baker: Camille Bonora
Florist: Noel MacNeal
Movers: Kevin Clash and David Rudman
Dry Cleaner: Jerry Nelson
Shoemaker: Martin P. Robinson
rocketstevo 3 years ago 3
@rocketstevo Maybe the postwoman is Julianne Buescher (since it is from 1990), but maybe it could be Fran
