  • And here I was thinking that you could never beat Doom E1 on Nightmare. :P

  • 5:18 D'oh

  • In the first speedrun (9 secs)... How could he still achieve 13% in "killed" ?

  • @HLGAM3R Actually 17%, but a valid point, especially considering he never fires a single shot. I suspect it's a result of monster infighting - if you look closely at around 0:09 you can see two shotgun guys who seem to be fighting each other, for example.

  • @fragglet OK . Thanks.

  • OMG this is fuckin' insane O__O good job! xD

  • The nightmare in nightmare is how accurate and fast the shotgun guys are. They go from cannon fodder to elite assassins and all it takes is one difficulty jump

  • El Diablo: Dude, what the hell just happened to my army? I was only gone for an hour.

  • some of those jumps looked impossible.

    is this real?

  • @EvilNecroid Yes. Some of the jumps are done by straferunning to get extra speed.

  • The command control run... that level took me like 20 minutes

  • "Excuse me." "Hey, watch it!" "Move out of the way!" "I have not stopped for chit-chat." "Step aside or I will blow your brains out!" "Does it look as if I had wanted to play with you?" "Oops, I felt something squishy under my boots. Well, no time for clean up." "Yeah, stay there. Therefore, I can get by." "Ooh! I'm late." "I can't stop." "Clear out; I am coming through!" "I can not stop now." "I have to go." "Bye!"

  • That's how u play Doom after 60 Cans of Energy Dinks and some Steroid Pills!

  • o.o veritable legions of the dead

  • I love speed runs. Seeing games that took me weeks to beat being dominated in just minutes....

  • Just for information, Nightmare is for a speedrun use and Ultraviolence is for a 100% use. Check Doom Wikia ;)

  • @Lyes35i Well, they're all speedruns - the objective is always to complete the level as quickly as possible. But there are different speedrun categories with different objectives.

  • fookin crazyness

  • Of course speedruns... let's see you do nightmare without speeding lol.

I've defeated Babel in Ultimate Doom, Tower of Babel, on Nightmare in six minutes. :P

  • @Gratlaguy That's why the title of the video is "speedruns", not "speedrun", genius.

  • @fragglet Do they use mouse? or is it better with keyboard only?

  • @Gratlaguy remove this dude only makes you look stupid

  • lol @ command control

  • This are awesome but I wish the gamm correction was on level 4!

  • @DLRarchangel Why does every body like high gamma?

  • Is this even being played by a human?

  • i can beat it faster.

  • I think you guys made par!

  • I can play on Nightmare... for 20 seconds

  • holy effin shit. this skill demonstration is insane

  • Favorite trick I seen used is the "rocket man" Trick where you use the blast of a rocket to get to the desired spot. Or and using the Archviles fire to hop on places.

  • how did he get past the timed red door trap in e1m6?

  • @Plausiblesarge At 5:03 when he enters the room, there are two sergeants standing in the doorway to the trap room. From what I understand, if you time it right, the door starts to close but bounces off their heads, so it doesn't close. I believe this is why he backtracks briefly at 5:01 - this attracts the attention of the sergeants to get them into position for the trick.

  • @fragglet cool thanks

  • this is why chocolate doom is awesome

  • I fucking love how impossible Nightmare is. I miss the good ol unforgiving days of gaming.

  • That is a nightmare.

  • Now that is some crazy shit right here

  • @gabrielesani *sigh* No, they are not faked. You don't know what you're talking about. These are Vanilla demos. If you don't believe me, see for yourself: go to the compet-n website, download the .lmp files, and play them back in the original DOS version.

The "jumping" is achieved by running with enough forward momentum to clear the gap. There are various tricks that are used to achieve this, read about straferunning on the Doom wiki.

  • @fragglet

Ok sorry, i never thought that was possible to "jump" in that parts of the level... i thourht they were designed in a way that made impossible to "jump" in those point... but i've tried it and, yes, you've got reason.

Forgive me to doubt about it^^

  • @gabrielesani Ok, no problem. Sorry if I sounded harsh in my previous comment, but you won't believe the number of people I've had posting comments on this and my other videos claiming that things are "faked" when they actually just don't understand what they're seeing. It gets tiresome after a while.

  • Best part of the game is that monsters turn on eachother!

The times these guys clock is amazing.

  • let just say the diagonal shit works lol

  • love that end of level jive

  • Damn I can't do E1M1 in 9 seconds on the easiest difficulty, how the heck did that person do it?

  • How did the player who went through E1M6 avoid triggering the red keycard trap?

  • beat me by 6 seconds

  • it would be very impressive if they did 100% in the same amount of time, but that impossible.

  • omg

  • Sonic in Doom

  • THE INSANITY.

  • what version are u using because mine is on snes and it has worse graphics

  • @pepsiman1999 This is the original PC version. The SNES version had poorer quality graphics because of the slower CPU in the SNES. A whole load of textures and other stuff were also cut out because of the limited space on the cartridge.

  • @fragglet also snes monsters dont respawn on nightmare unlike PC version :P

  • that marine made it home just in time for supper

  • Would have been better with music...

  • @CrixMakin It has music - the music of the game. I have no idea what you're talking about.

  • @fragglet so disappointing to me is the fixation on youtube of removing the original audio from any sort of video clip and adding separate music instead. If I wanted that I could just mute youtube and play an mp3 while watching.

  • @ghostsinthere2008 Exactly, I couldn't agree with you more. I absolutely *hate* it when I want to see a clip from a TV show, or gameplay of a game that I haven't played, and find that the idiot uploader decided to inflict their shitty taste in music upon anyone curious enough to watch. Even worse, invariably it's either awful generic pop rock, screamer heavy metal, or "Requiem for a Tower" from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack.

You can be assured that I will never do that to my videos.

  • @fragglet or linkin park and that "let the bodies hit the floor" song.. heh, drives me nuts

  • @fragglet For some reason, the first time I played it, there was no audio at all on it. Must have been a bad computer day. I still fucking love the way Doom sounds.

  • Oh yea. Nightmare is the best setting!!! I don't speedrun though haha.

@m3ntoZ yes it is, very carefully and strategically. It's how I do it.

  • Was this tool assisted?

  • @blah227 No.

  • Watching this makes me incredibly nervous!

  • Insane - Just insane!

  • shit man.... nightmare mode is just FUCKING INSANE!

  • I couldn't even beat E1M1 on XBL for the achievement! That's crazy. Is it possible to beat any levels on Nightmare without speedrunning?

  • Computer station on nightmare is very hard to finish- i think that men are REAL doom god.

  • This is insane!

But maybe this is the only way to beat Nightmare. You can actually tell that they probably implemented many of the secrets for the purpose of speedrunning.

How many times did you practice this?

  • @Heinzfaust I didn't. This is not me playing.

  • Sweet Shit!

  • Looking at these makes me feel like a huge piece of crap. It makes me think of all the years I've wasted trying to actually get through "Nightmare!" mode without freaking dying. And no matter what, it feels like I'm never getting ANY better.

  • This is GREAT! I`ve been playing this games for almost 15 years, and now you`ve just given me a new ambition! Is this the Nightmare version?? Or just UV?

  • @brindlepes The clue is in the video title.

  • Great! YOu should try it without that autoaim (its on by default), free mouse look (like modern shooters) and a crosshair

  • @DaDeceptiveOne This is not me playing. These are the world record demos.

The demos are from Compet-N, the Doom speed running archive. All demos for Compet-N are recorded with Vanilla Doom, which doesn't support any of the features you describe.

  • also i can't f*cking do nightmare mode, because i like to take my pretty little time and the enemies respawn on nightmare mode. my fastest full game run, on nightmare was something like 12 minutes. but i don't like to speedrun, so i didn't enjoy it, i just did it.

  • TAS? or no?

  • i want the damn soundtrack to this!!.. especially at 2:03

  • amazing!

  • Sweet speedrun, I did lvl 1 on nightmare to get the chevo on XBLA but stopped shortly after that. UV is a breeze but Nightmare is crazy sh1t!!

  • could anyone tell me what does PAR time stand for at the end of each level ?

  • @mecaibienpedo It doesnt stand for anything - it's like par when playing golf.

The par time is how quickly the guys at Id could complete the level.

  • PAR IS THE AVERAGE OF THE BEST sorta

  • Damn I love DooM

  • LOL at 5:20 "Oh I lost the armor" that was a big mistake in speedrunning :D

  • I wonder how many of you crazy speedrunners are still active in doom...I tried Nightmare but only got to E1M3, but I know my mistake now: I tried to kill all monsters :-P

  • I'll bet speedruns work better than coffee

  • i thought i wasnt bad doing e1m1 on nightmare in 14 seconds but shit. now i know i suck :)

  • I completely forgot about chocolate dooms existence, thanks for the reminder.

  • On what doom engine they are played?

  • @KorolosQuadDamage most likely doom2.exe. some runners use prboom since it is most identical to the original doom

  • @Roew I think you'll find Chocolate Doom is closer to the original Doom than PrBoom is :-)

  • @Roew Thanks for info.

  • @KorolosQuadDamage These are from Compet-N, which only accepts demos recorded with the original dos executables.

  • That is cheat... level 4 command control it's not possible to take that jump before the exit I just tested it

  • Incorrect. You just don't have the skills to pull it off. It is quite possible, and it is not a cheat.

  • I tried many times running half sideways and holding down shift for extra boost but it didn't work for me. Maybe theres a setting where you can speed it up?

  • Read the Doom wiki article on straferunning.

  • @FanTazTiCxD i can do that jump on the ps1 version so it is possible

  • Does he ctrl-straferun over the bridge in Control Command?

  • I always did like kicking back and watching stuff like this. This is crazy - crazy good and crazy that people can actually pull stuff like this off :)

  • you guys are HEROES!

    Damn good game

  • This is a really good speedrun compilation great job to all of you!

  • 1hp^^

  • insane since that its so hard to do!

  • speed running in a game that does not allow freelook is hard. This Video is skill.

  • Jesus Christ, why do I get so many complete morons commenting on my videos?

First off, this isn't me playing.

Secondly, you've missed the entire point of the video. These are the world record demos for each of the individual levels on nightmare mode. You'd think that the title cards before each level might be a clue. It isn't supposed to be "impressing anyone". They're individual playthroughs by completely different players.

  • What doesn't take much skill? Getting the nightmare mode world record for a level?

Somehow I think you may be talking bullshit.

  • if you dont call this skill, then what is it?

  • The point is that it's a SPEED RUN. Like it says in the title.

At this point you're either profoundly retarded or a very poor troll. Either way, banned.

  • you cant kill all monsters or get all items on nightamre

  • I suggest you make a new record video to impress us all. Let's see if we get ''impressed'' then.

  • I smell jealousness

  • @fragglet haha, poor you ;D

  • your a fucking idiot

  • amazing stuff.

  • O_0

This video is 9:11 long and was posted on SEPTEMBER!

  • The nightmare skill level is definitely for the crazy, hardcore speedrunners. :P

  • owned

  • Ridiculous! This is real gaming, right here.

  • At 4:59 through 5:00, the pistol's shots sync with the music!

  • Read the E1M3 article on the Doom wiki.

  • O_O

  • i know u can get short bursts of speed close to this by using the mouse to move forward or backward, but how does he maintain that high speed of movement?

  • Which one?

  • all of them, they seem like their moving atleast 2x as fast then just holding the run button down

  • They're probably just using the joyb_speed autorun hack along with straferunning. There are various other tricks that can be used to move faster - read the straferunning article on the Doom wiki.

  • sigh

  • The only thing I like about Nightmare is that the mosnters get angry at each other and start shooting! Gives me enough time to get outta the situation.

  • Wow! Must have had a lot of practice. Take a look at MY Nightmare video!

  • Hmm map 6 is rigged the door with room with the blue key in is supposed to open back up after i think is a minute. I noticed that the he left the sergeant there however he was dead by the time he got back therefore the door should have stayed shut? Or is there something im missing here?

  • Videos are amazing, thanks for uploading them.

  • Level 4 he was using turbo mode to jump the final gap. Can't do that without turbo.

  • No, he wasn't, and yes, you can do it without turbo. He's using SR50 straferunning to get enough speed to jump the gap. Read the E1M4 article on the Doom Wiki, specifically the "Exit jump" section.

  • Was this recorded to a suitable YT format using Chocolate Doom or a standard copy of 1.9?

  • Chocolate Doom.

  • i never turn it on nightmare mode as i was scared to death!!!

  • Hahaha I remember all these levels from when I used to play this as a child.. as terrible as that is, looking back now.

    Nonetheless, these speedruns are beautiful.

  • yeah dude i played doom when i was 5

  • Oh man he completed e1m4 with 1% ahahaha

  • I have the Xbox version and the music is very different.

  • You REALLY have to know the levels to do nightmare mode like this I mean REALLY know them.

  • I am not even going to ask how your still alive??? but thats cool

  • This is not me playing.

  • That's actually 6-7 people submitting single-level speedruns to Fragglet, then having Fragglet compile them in Windows Movie Maker and uploading it onto YouTube.

  • No. Nobody submitted speedruns to me. These are the world record demos from Compet-N. Read the video description.

  • You know, the more I watch videos like this the more I wonder if games like this were actually scretly crafted with speedrunning being the intention, all along. The level design sure seems to accommodate for it extremely well.

  • haha so true mate

  • i remember playing this game when it first came out lol dont think i everplayed without the cheats XD iddqd, idkfa idspispopd i think thats what they were. Vn vid 5*

  • I cant do the first level. This is insane. Didnt someone do the whole of the original doom in one take on nightmare without dying?

  • yup plenty of times, ive done it twice myself, including all the other dooms

  • i did like 10 years ago. took me hours to complete it

  • Pure carnage. I love it

  • Can't do that in E1M4 using zdoom, but not a problem, because that level is the 3rd easiest in E1.

  • im realizing more and more that doom does not suit me, i like to hang back and take my time, a la gears of war,

this is fucking nuts, i cud never do this

  • It's not as though you *have* to speedrun every level.

  • no, but imagine as slowly and as carefully as u cud play doom, then slow it down and take into account the fact that im constantly being killed....thats how i play doom.

its a fun game, to this day the more intense gun fights wind me up, but the style just doesnt suit.

same with halo deathmatch, just to damn frantic

  • is it possible to complete nightmare mode without running? lol

  • Don't think so. I tried, and failed countless times. So, I just ran =D

  • I did. Though i seriouslt DONT want to try it again. Even if you would demand proof i'd just prefer to say "allright i amde it up" just anything but doing that shit again. IT WAS HORROR.

  • lol, i almost failed level 1 trying to not speedrun in nightmare :P

  • wtf? this game is called "Doom" and not "Dodgeball" ... no, kiddin'... pretty damn impressive

  • Gibbed monsters can't respawn right?

  • this is crazzzzzzzzzzy!

  • How does he stop the door closing behind him at 5:05?

  • Never mind, I read the comments. He gets a monster to block it for him.
