Phoenixfan i think not much music can be completely original and even if it did sound like pixies would'nt you agree that what Tom did for music and probably for the Pixies, he has every right to style things off others if he wants I'd say it's more a coincidence or an appreciative gesture, i think often musicians bounce/steal/use ideas off of each other, whether forward or back in time. And this has a great affect on the evolution of sound in an increasingly small 'original' space to work in
I just noticed something, a small detail. The guitar/ music part between 1:58 and 2:08 sounds a bit ripped off. It sounds a bit like the Pixies "Where is my mind?" or some song that I've heard before. I don't think Petty meant to rip that small sample from whatever artist. Other viewers, please don't take this as an insult, I really really like Tom Petty and think he's original in everything he does. I'm just pointing out a minor thing I noticed.
