Indian Idol was shit, Vishwas Rai was one heck of a singer, who should have gone all the way and won the title, but he was eliminated in first round itself. Harnoor Singh is a gifted boy who is so simple and humble that it reflects in his voice, i hate most singing shows as they mostly irritate with bad judges and always new songs are preferred over old songs. But boy-o-boy this time its a treat to watch all these fantastic singers in their full glory. I aint missin any of the episodes

He was my senior in Government College Lahore and I still remember when his name was emblemmed on the Music Society's roll of honor. I got a few chances to listen to him live without any instruments in Music Society and it was goosebumps!. How many singers of this sort are there now a days. I would say hardly 7 or 8. If you listen to Aankhon Kay Sagar by him live it will just blow you away. Way to go SRGMP.

So far Abhilasha,Mampi Nair,Mugdha and Sugandha are at par contestants.Very difficult to pick any one from these.Mampi's rendering during the antara part of 'O saathi re' was breath-taking.Rini's voice caricature is excellent for playback and she's good a singer.Needs to be consistent with the depth.Not so impressed with the male contestants so far,compared to female counterparts.The guy by the name some 'Abhishek Mukherjee' sounded good.Ranjit needs to prove his versatality.

The guy could not make it to mega auditions because of typhoid fever. This guy is in a class that is a notch above Abhilasha, Mampi, Khurram, Mughda, Sughanda, Harnoor you name it. I can only say on thing with surity this guy is light years ahead of his peers.
@lums786 I heard his rendition.Well the fact is Fareed is potentially a good singer.Unfortunate not to make it to top 18 for medical condition.But he was like trying to show too much of 'harqat' in his short ati-drut khayal for raga kaamod(ae ri jaane na doongi),which was getting off-notes every now and then.As every Ustad says,the beauty of a male voice is 'gamak',which was clearly not there rather subdued form of it.Probably just a matter of time and riyaaz that we'd see him arise soon.
Yes,Shriram did record a duet with Shreya(again in Telugu,which is his mother tongue).But by no means he's the versatility and the strenght to sing sensitive music .Digital recording in studios is vastly different than singing such tedious classical based tracks LIVE.Being a radio artist I know this.It's easy to say that someone is performing good but difficult to pass a verdict someone is singing good,when you are a singer or an avid music audience.Very best wishes for the selected top 18...
Been following SaReGaMaPa & Chhote Ustad closely.Honestly those kids sing better than the Indian Idol finalists.The thing is there are no shortcuts to become an accomplished singer(unless you singing just for gathering public attention which is very easy:make remix,put some raunchy videos..) I'm really happy that this year SaReGaMaPa has reincarnated like phoenix.You people really think Shriram,Rakesh & Bhoomi would have proved themselves in the atmosphere in which the mega-auditions were done?

My personal opinion based on my experience of listening to Hindi/urdu music on this season's contest: Abhilasha Chellam is a VERY STRONG contender. Followed by strong MaamPee Nair. Harnoor singh is good, but he'll have to show us his versatility in all depts. - not just ghazal/folk songs. Mohd. Rafi and Lata ji can sing songs in every dept. and that's how these singers are going to be judged on - fast, slow, bhajan, ghazal, bandhini and u get the idea. D'is is srgmp and not BS Indian Idol!!

My predictions were 98% correct from the list of singers I published earlier on who's gonna make it to the next round. Here is the list: Abhilasha Chellam, Rini Chandra, Ragini Pratap Singh, Harnoor Singh Kunar, Shantanu Bhattacharya, Sherpa, MaamPee Nair, Ranjit Rajvada, Sniti Mishra, Khurram Iqbal, & Smita Chakroboty. So guys what are your thoughts on the selected 18.I think very fair so far as there is no public voting involved.Also thanks to SaReGaMa Team for involving the music industry experts.I hope the forthcoming decisions remain as unbiased as they have been so far(irrespective of social background).Good to have a lot of upcoming talented singers on the same platform.Must say really liked the 'tappa' sang by Sugandha Mishra...very difficult genre in classical music!
@prashgkp - I wish I was a paid promoter - at least that way I was being paid for my pro-SRGMP views - do u have any inside connexions? if u watched srgmp auditions, many good singers - who were way much better than sriram and bhoomi - were rejected simply because this season's standard's are so high. sriram is a telugu singer - he won't make it in bollywood. Infact, a Telugu singer - a girl - was rejected during Bombay auditions simply because she couldn't sing in hindi or urdu.
I wish them ALL best of luck. To public voting: please no politics, regionalism, or religion in this SRGMP 2010 Super challenge contest. We need another Shreya Goshal, Kunar Ganjawalla from this show. I think Abhilasha Chellam, Rini Chandra, and Khurram Iqbal stand a good chance of getting in the top 5. Or better, let's bring back expert music directors selection panel instead of public voting. Let them select the BEST and most deserving singers from these contestants.
Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2010 is just awesome. The level of singing is very high. Indian Idol Season 5 which just concluded will be recorded at a very low level compared to SRGMP 2010. SreeRam and Bhoomi Tridevi will be failures just like Abhijeet Sawant, Surabhi Debvarma, Prashant Tamang who came before them. After winning has anyone heard of them again? Nope! Does that tell you anything? Yes, because as long as public is voting, there is too much regionalism, politics, religion being brought into it.

@lums786 Even seasoned classical singers,as you know,first sing vilambit khayal for an extended period before 'ati-drut' as the later requires an initial atmosphere bearing the signature of the raga being sung to be created.
However great solace was found in Fareed's second offering(Saanwre sung by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in Bandit Queen).Yes he did that extremely well.His absence in top 18 would indeed be felt.My personal wishes to Fareed for I do see an uprising singer.Keep posting!

@phoenixreincarnates just do 60% in terms of Khayal Gayaki, Thumri, Sargam or in a particular Gharana style gayaki then it is not excellent but exceptional. Now based on this criteria by the greatest of the greatest I have not even an iota of hesitation that Fareed passed the test with flying colors and better than all other. His first piece i.e. a Bundish (and he did it in just 2 minutes was exceptional although he hit it around 85%) and then second one (an even better one) were just chosen by

As I said before and you saw it that other contestants not even dared to touch such a thing, not even with a long pole!. Looking at his two renditions and their pace, here is my word. If he had been there in this year's competition he would have given nightmares to all contestants that I mentioned before in my post leave alone next year when he will be back!. I still remember once a wise man said that you will find many many more thorns than roses on a rose plant!. People like Fareed are like as you said once in a lifetime thing. @prashgkp.Staying objective,I'd say alyaly1 is trying to prove a point which is undeniable.Its just he was aggressive in doing so.Now when you say"none of the winners or runner up of such shows make it big in the industry" or "being classically trained doesnot guarantee of being successful singer",well please clarify your metrics for being 'successful' and 'big'.This is the biggest problem,today everyones being judgemental about someones singing ability with immediate fame.

@prashgkp - just look at the records of SRGMP versus Indian Idol - how many Indian Idols winners - from the past 5 seasons - have made it into professional singing careers in the Indian Film Industry? ZERO. Now how many winners from SRGMP from the past 16 seasons? The answer is FIVE - Shreya Goshal, Kunar Ganjawalla, Sanjeevani Bhelande, Pathiv Gohil, Raja Hassan, and to a less extent, Himani Kapoor. The winners were all selected by expert panel and not public. I rest my case.

Incidentally I just viewed another video for Delhi Auditions and a guy who participated in it(& eventually rejected) comments:"I was the only rapper in that audition",apparently with a sense of accomplishment!Well wtf you doing here,try to compete with the likes of Eminem.These are those dickheads who can speak Hindi/Urdu but think speaking in English makes them sound sophisticated in Indian society.And such mindset in our society has badly crippled the music taste of contemporary generation.

Indian Idol was shit, Vishwas Rai was one heck of a singer, who should have gone all the way and won the title, but he was eliminated in first round itself. Harnoor Singh is a gifted boy who is so simple and humble that it reflects in his voice, i hate most singing shows as they mostly irritate with bad judges and always new songs are preferred over old songs. But boy-o-boy this time its a treat to watch all these fantastic singers in their full glory. I aint missin any of the episodes

@Frankymessi Beyond any doubt, Shafqat is an adorable singer.Been following him since Fuzon in 2003.Classy voice which speaks of his command in his genre.Well atleast there are few singers who can save the face of music thats the heart of India/Pakistan.On one hand we take pride upon Lataji,Ashaji,Rahetji and the likes,and on the other hand people find cheap tasteless music alluring!God knows who will fill the void after these legends leave us.Singers like Shafqat can provide us some solace.

@Frankymessi Nope.I have not heard much of his solo albums.Yes get to hear the ones in movies as a playback singer.The same reason:People don't mind spending Rs400-500 for Rap,HipHop CDs,but find Indian music as 'too boring!'.And when you have 'great' composers like Anu,Pritam who like to feast upon 'instant ready to compose' western tracks and blend them into hindi soundtracks,the chances grow thin for such geniuses whereas Atif,Mika and alikes are acknowledged 'great singers'.Great trend!

He was my senior in Government College Lahore and I still remember when his name was emblemmed on the Music Society's roll of honor. I got a few chances to listen to him live without any instruments in Music Society and it was goosebumps!. How many singers of this sort are there now a days. I would say hardly 7 or 8. If you listen to Aankhon Kay Sagar by him live it will just blow you away. Way to go SRGMP.

Being successful or 'big' means how much authority a person has in his genre.Obviously Mika Singh might have more non-sensical albums than the renderings of Ustad Rashid Khan or Pandit Jasraj.So does that mean Mika Singh is big.The fact is Music industry is going through a vicious circle.People like degraded music,and hence music composers think promoting that kinda music is gonna keep their business intact.So absurd singers like these find their presence and make it 'big'!

So far Abhilasha,Mampi Nair,Mugdha and Sugandha are at par contestants.Very difficult to pick any one from these.Mampi's rendering during the antara part of 'O saathi re' was breath-taking.Rini's voice caricature is excellent for playback and she's good a singer.Needs to be consistent with the depth.Not so impressed with the male contestants so far,compared to female counterparts.The guy by the name some 'Abhishek Mukherjee' sounded good.Ranjit needs to prove his versatality.

The guy could not make it to mega auditions because of typhoid fever. This guy is in a class that is a notch above Abhilasha, Mampi, Khurram, Mughda, Sughanda, Harnoor you name it. I can only say on thing with surity this guy is light years ahead of his peers.

@lums786 I heard his rendition.Well the fact is Fareed is potentially a good singer.Unfortunate not to make it to top 18 for medical condition.But he was like trying to show too much of 'harqat' in his short ati-drut khayal for raga kaamod(ae ri jaane na doongi),which was getting off-notes every now and then.As every Ustad says,the beauty of a male voice is 'gamak',which was clearly not there rather subdued form of it.Probably just a matter of time and riyaaz that we'd see him arise soon.

Yes,Shriram did record a duet with Shreya(again in Telugu,which is his mother tongue).But by no means he's the versatility and the strenght to sing sensitive music .Digital recording in studios is vastly different than singing such tedious classical based tracks LIVE.Being a radio artist I know this.It's easy to say that someone is performing good but difficult to pass a verdict someone is singing good,when you are a singer or an avid music audience.Very best wishes for the selected top 18...

Been following SaReGaMaPa & Chhote Ustad closely.Honestly those kids sing better than the Indian Idol finalists.The thing is there are no shortcuts to become an accomplished singer(unless you singing just for gathering public attention which is very easy:make remix,put some raunchy videos..) I'm really happy that this year SaReGaMaPa has reincarnated like phoenix.You people really think Shriram,Rakesh & Bhoomi would have proved themselves in the atmosphere in which the mega-auditions were done?

My personal opinion based on my experience of listening to Hindi/urdu music on this season's contest: Abhilasha Chellam is a VERY STRONG contender. Followed by strong MaamPee Nair. Harnoor singh is good, but he'll have to show us his versatility in all depts. - not just ghazal/folk songs. Mohd. Rafi and Lata ji can sing songs in every dept. and that's how these singers are going to be judged on - fast, slow, bhajan, ghazal, bandhini and u get the idea. D'is is srgmp and not BS Indian Idol!!

So guys what are your thoughts on the selected 18.I think very fair so far as there is no public voting involved.Also thanks to SaReGaMa Team for involving the music industry experts.I hope the forthcoming decisions remain as unbiased as they have been so far(irrespective of social background).Good to have a lot of upcoming talented singers on the same platform.Must say really liked the 'tappa' sang by Sugandha Mishra...very difficult genre in classical music!

@prashgkp - I wish I was a paid promoter - at least that way I was being paid for my pro-SRGMP views - do u have any inside connexions? if u watched srgmp auditions, many good singers - who were way much better than sriram and bhoomi - were rejected simply because this season's standard's are so high. sriram is a telugu singer - he won't make it in bollywood. Infact, a Telugu singer - a girl - was rejected during Bombay auditions simply because she couldn't sing in hindi or urdu.

I wish them ALL best of luck. To public voting: please no politics, regionalism, or religion in this SRGMP 2010 Super challenge contest. We need another Shreya Goshal, Kunar Ganjawalla from this show. I think Abhilasha Chellam, Rini Chandra, and Khurram Iqbal stand a good chance of getting in the top 5. Or better, let's bring back expert music directors selection panel instead of public voting. Let them select the BEST and most deserving singers from these contestants.

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2010 is just awesome. The level of singing is very high. Indian Idol Season 5 which just concluded will be recorded at a very low level compared to SRGMP 2010. SreeRam and Bhoomi Tridevi will be failures just like Abhijeet Sawant, Surabhi Debvarma, Prashant Tamang who came before them. After winning has anyone heard of them again? Nope! Does that tell you anything? Yes, because as long as public is voting, there is too much regionalism, politics, religion being brought into it.
