Hey! Have you considered intellectus 424 diet (do a google search)? Ive heard some unbelivable things about it and my father lost tons of weight with it.
Chet was such a wonderful, warm, encouraging human...everyone who has commented here about him obviously knew him intimately, day-to-day, and is certainly qualified to make such judgments about him. Wow.
Here's to our media stars...may they forever make us believe that they are really nice people.
... I've also wondered where Jerry Reed lived. There's an old clip on here somewhere of an interview with Jimmy Dean from the early 70's and Chet mentions that Jerry named one of his songs "Steeplechase Lane" because that's the street he lived on. I googled it and there appears to be two different places with the name "Steeplechase Lane" in Nashville.
I have lived here in Nashville for a little more than two years and have only recently wondered where Chet's house was. I know the reporter said "Forest Hills" and I know that general area but does anyone know the actual address where this house is located? I would never ask this if he were still with us but since they are both gone I can't see how it would hurt.
A few on here speculating about an approximate date for this newscast. A few clues suggest early 1980's. Chet playing an early version of his Gibson Classic Electric nylon string guitar, his hairstyle matched with countless photos of Chet that anyone can google image at the click of a button, one of the two Chet Atkins: In Three Dimensions books by John McClellan mention that He and Leona had that house built around 1957-58 and the reporter says they have lived there for "23 years."
@staxmarshall That is correct. The tune he was playing in the recording studio was from "Work it Out With Chet Atkins, CGP" which was indeed an 80's release.
Chet walking had a sort of hunched over look. That comes from YEARS of being hunched over that guitar! The guitar seemed to just "Fit him" It seemed to be a part of his body. it was like the missing piece of the puzzle.
Chet and Leona both gone, now, but forever remembered. Probably both walking together now, hand in hand on glory's shores, as they did in this video...
My mother wrote for a local newspaper an I had the thrill of meeting Mr. Atkins in 1970. There was a very small, impromptu "press conference" before his show. I got to go with Mom.
He told me if I'd save up all my earnings and work real hard, I could have a place like his in Luttrell - with a swimming pool shaped like a guitar [pause] amplifier. I didn't decipher it at the time [I was 15] but he just smiled his soft smile, patted my shoulder and said "Be well, young man." RIP, my hero!
@wagonmaster1974 That's a cute story. I heard him say once on tv that when he became successful that he bought a home with a swimming pool shaped like a guitar [pause] amplifier - and then he smiled his quiet smile. Took me a second to catch on. : - ) So nice to see him with his pretty wife and to see the affection they had for each other. After his sad childhood, it's good to know that he received all her love for the rest of his life. They surely were sweet people.
This was a great video showing Chet at home...and the sweet, quiet nature of the man that we all could see when he performed and suspected he had as a regular person. I am so sorry he is gone now. What a great guitarist, and what a sweet person. I love viewing his music here now. Thanks for posting this video. All the best to you, Beth
Chet, hope you're on the beach now!The greatest guitarist with the greatest tone ever. You never knew how much influence you had on players.God Bless you Chester B. and hope you're joggin' on the beach with no dogs botherin' you.
Chet bounced around the live-country-radio scene for years. He said that before he became proficient at his style, with simultaneous bass and melody lines, "I used to sound like two bad guitar players." He was ironical, humorous, stung by childhood poverty, and very modest about his playing. After developing "Atkins style," being imitated for decades, and selling millions, he described his main musical contribution as "I played with authority. And, I was pretty good at chord substitutions."
Music became a business, and business-people are, by nature, cautious about anything new and untried, or just plain different from what they know as "good selling stuff". Chet being so good, was different and it took a while for anyone with sufficient courage to recognize. So, good on everyone who recognized Chet's amazing talent and supported him on his way.
you have to put into perspective that chets guitar sound at the time was very progressive and percieved by radio stations as not sounding country enough, chets guitar playing at the time was very new and unique and still is unique today, but partly i think it was the economy as well
@KarloR27 Chet was too modern sounding(George Barnes,Django and Les Paul were, his big influences)and had other than country influences. His dad was a trained classical singer. His brother Jim(fiddle)was a trained musician as well.Chet vocalized(on his early albums) also and these are the gigs that he mostly got fired from.He said if you didn't sing about murder, death and destruction and other morbid subjects you weren't well received.Chet was too good then for the time. God Bless, Ty M.
Yeah well a great musician can play anything. It sounded like black mountain rag there he was trying to play. It's suppose to be very hard to play the fiddle. I'm from Ireland so the fiddle is very popular here for Irish music.
i couldnt belive it when chet said that he didnt collect guitars,on the other hand its expensive collecting guitars anyway cos you have to maintain them, such a modest guy and a legend

That's cool if Chet wants to live by the ocean in his next life, as long as he plays the guitar in that life.

Chet is my hero. His music has brought me, and continues to bring me, endless pleasure. He really reminds me of George W .Bush in this video.

How did Chet get fired and lost jobs so many times? Was it the economy at the time? or was it that he just wasn't doing well?
