@Bopperkid if you work with different layers, you don't need to select anything. just make the layer with the lines "multiplicate" (or sth. similar, dont know the exact word in SAI (i run it in german)), and then add a new layer, place it under the layer with lines and start to color. you'll see that you can draw over the lines, but they will stay where they are. if you color very exactly, then it looks like you don't draw over it. ;)
@Bopperkid ah, and if you just filled your layer with the color of hair (for example) you can "fix it" so you draw only on the part where you filled the hair before. it makes setting shadows pretty easy. ;)
@TheRisingTied hmm I've always selected the area and then colored it in while it's selected. It's a real pain in the butt and very time consuming :/. I'll have to try this "multiplicate" :)
