PLEASE HELP! I have to make a presentation on sheets 1000x700mm the problem is that plans does not fit in one page how can i split a drawing into two pages on layout?
the only things i find annoying about SU are the fact that curves and circumferences are made out of segments and not vectors. it would be nice if it was possible to choose between vector based or segment based modelling when you start a new model. also there is no subdivide faces tool. for the rest i find it a lot more flexible than the few other cad programs i have used.
I would really like to have the professional version of this tool. You can already use the free version in combination with DataCAD. What really gets me is all of the critics on SU's ability to be accurate or it's ability to produce CD's.
I really think, from what I have seen, the paid version can annotate quite well. It might not be as good as a $6,000 program but it's getting close. I really wish we could get it here.
It'd be nice if someone can up with architectural hatch fills/materials for layout and sketchup. Its the a big missing piece in using this for drawings.
I disagree WarPeace. I use SU products in combination with MEP 2011 all the time. Anyone who cannot see that SU is a viable and professional tool, either has their head up their butt, or isn't an educated professional themselves.
great work Google! It a mazes me that more professionals dont use it. I guess you can lead a horse to water......... Honestly as a professional you should try it or get left behind. And no I dont work for Google
@Aadbuild I am a fourth year Architecture student and currently working in an architecture and planning firm in Pennsylvania, and I have to say that this program is one of the pitfalls of the profession. As a conceptual modeling tool, it IS nice, but people tend to use it for much more than they ever should. I critiqued a studio of second year students last night and they all used SketchUp as a crutch, much like the firm that I'm currently working at. When it comes to any complexity, SU FAILS.
@xTripleXtacyx I'm sorry, I mean this in the nicest possible way, but students like you are the reason so many professionals fail to hire architecture students straight out of school. I'm 23 and a masters student with 7 years experience in 3 different architectural firms and the most important thing I've learned in that time is that, experience wise i don't know a thing. So before you go giving your opinion about how you think an industry your new to works do a bit of research.
@xTripleXtacyx the most complex design is usually the simplest. Software has nothing to do with the profession. Let the people who depend on weak software earn their place in the professional ladder while the people who only use it as part of a larger toolbox earn theirs.
Well, I don't know which professionals you have in mind but architects use BIM software and Sketchup will never truly be one, just like AutoCAD can't (to a certain extent. I love SketchUp: it is great for urban scale models and quick interior design but it would be insanely hard to make a medium scale architectural project in SU. It is not impossible but there certainly are program that can do the job much faster.
@WarpeaceWar6 Actually some of my friends use this for a small project and it works. I think it's very handy for prelim. or proposal. It can be export to dwg so your sketches is not totally a waste of your time. You don't have to start from scratches in autocad for the working drawing.
@WarpeaceWar6 Apparently lot's of professionals use it, but you've missed the point. SU is designed to create a community of users, most of whom are not professionals. It's about documenting the world in a way that benefits everyone and Google at the same time.
We already see Google maps/earth/streetview heavily used as a resource by government, media, advertisers, real estate, etc. With SU anyone can contribute to that resource.
fack i diden' know that you can do thouse things in sketchup...

@xTripleXtacyx
you dont understand anything
you can do very complex architecture with sketchup
you americans for some strange reason got the idea that only blobs are complex.
either you dont understand the maximum abilities of sketchup or you just dont have a whole view of what is complex in architecture
phozon2222 1 year ago
@xTripleXtacyx it depends whether you are an architect who likes organic style or regular style. try to be less black and white please
