  • you just soak the beans??no cooking?

  • @456japan correct, they are cooked when you fry the patty, check out the recipe on my site at DedeMed

  • these turned out great for me. They are awesome. My daughter doesn't like falafel, but after i made these she tasted them and said, "These are toooooo goooodddd." Thank you for the recipt

  • @fareel2368 wonderful :)

  • No lie this recipe is better than the ones I've ate at med restaurants.

  • @PalaisCristalLLC yeay! thank you :)

  • i am going right out to buy the ingrediants to make these.....yummm!

  • @PrincessAbaya fantastic, let me know how you like it :)

  • new york city !!!!!

  • Thanx for the recipe my falafels always tasted bland this time they were delicious!!!

  • Hello. Thanks for the recipe. I went to your website, like you advised someone else to do. But I'm unclear as to if you measure out the beans you need before soaking, or if you only measure out the beans that you need AFTER soaking them. Also, for some reason, the flavor doesn't seem strong enough, savory enough. So I'm not sure what to add.

  • @punkysfriendcherry the measurements on my site are for the dried beans, so measure them dried and then soak them, they will double in size. Did you add all of the spices and herbs that are indicated in the recipe? They should definitely NOT be bland if you follow my recipe and instructions :)

  • I sure did show it...lol

I posted pictures to my friends on Facebook... Thanks again...

  • @kandimata777 wonderful, I am very proud of you :)

  • Hi Dede, I made it. It was fabulous. My mom and I loved it. I served it with a yogurt sauce with diced cucumber, tomatoes, green, lemon, onion, and parsley. I could not find the tahini in the store they were out.

We will have it often now. Thank you so much!

    Hugs from Texas, Kandi

  • @kandimata777 Hey Kandi, I'm so glad everyone liked it. You can purchase tahini on my store page on my site, we ship everywhere OR you can try making tahini at home from scratch, just check out my "tahini from scratch" video :) that way you can make hummus too!

  • I can't wait to make this! I have not had it in 30 years...

    Thank you...

  • @kandimata777 please let me know how it turned out for you. The written recipe is on my site :)

  • Just made this and it turned out really good.

  • @Gabrielitodlp thanks so much, next time post a picture on my FB page :)

  • Definitely going to use this as my guide. Haven't made Falafel's in over 12 years and lost my old recipe, Although I am pretty sure I could wing it. Great to see a recipe that actually uses Fava beans as well as chick peas and a mixture of Parsley and Cilantro! A lot of Recipe's only call for the chick peas and I used to only use Parsley but I love Cilantro. As far as Spices though I was a little surprised that TUMERIC was not called for. Looks like the best recipe I have seen so far ! Thanks!

  • @SuperGunther45 thanks so much for your support, I really appreciate it. If you like turmeric you can definitely add it as well, just make it the way you like by jazzing up the spice, check out my site for other recipes as well that I think you'll like :)

  • How many cups of each bean???

  • @gawd314144 the written out recipe is on my site, go to my site and all the information is there ready for you :)

  • that falafel is da bom

  • @fudgedogbannana thanks so much :)

  • That looks delish! Well done! Can't wait to try out the recipe :D

  • @faiza666 wonderful, i hope you do, and join my facebook to keep in touch :)

  • I am totally going to make this. I love middle eastern food. South Beach has a great falafel stand.

  • @AtroPunk wonderful, please join my facebook and post pics of your recipes there :)

  • do you also want to peel the chick peas?

  • @Sweetashanni no, there is no need to peel the chick peas :)

  • there i thought u just needed chickpeas, now i need to look for gonzo and father beans??

  • @PhantomAct chickpeas are the same as garbanzo beans, check out the written recipe on my site :)

  • are sesame seeds ever added?...couldve sworn they do...not sure... tks for the great video

  • @searstower75 some people do sprinkle the falafel with sesame seeds :)

  • Fresh FAVA beans is the only way to go....so much better than dried!

  • @codybear4you yes but it you can't find fresh ones, dried ones work great :)

  • dede are you from arab country

  • @Ajundi1 I am Lebanese :)

  • I'm Making this today

  • @SamratalHayatGalerie great idea :)

  • Lebanese women are beautiful

  • @SultanOfSwords thanks :)

  • Hey Dede- looks fab- can I use fresh fava beans to do this? tx- watching your other videos now- You are an excellent resource! Thanks for doing this for us.

  • @cydista yes you definitely can, thanks for the sweet comment :)

  • Sweeet!

  • my mom made same flafels using your recipe and they were awsome

my father me nd everyone liked it nd she wants to tahnk u frm the bottom of her heart

    gob bless you :)

  • @laiba1994 that's so sweet, thank you for the comment, tell your mom I am so proud of her ;)

  • I made some falafel following your recipe. I added some flour to hold them together, so it was good that they didn't fall apart during frying. But they are so crispy and a little too hard. How can I improve the next time, so that they are not so hard like rocks?

  • @bummer4451 I would say lower the temperature of the oil and don't cook them to a dark color.

  • Some of my falafel tips:

if the mixture is too dry add lemon or lime juice instead of water. In fact adding lemon or lime juice anyway adds some flavor.

If all you have on hand are canned beans, drain them and go ahead and use them. In order for the falafels not to fall apart add flour Tablespoon by tablespoon to the finished mixture (usually it doesn't take more than 6 TBSP)

If you're like me and the taste of cilantro turns your stomach, use parsley instead.

  • @flyabusa great tips, wonderful :)

  • Dear Dede, i was wondering if the 2 cups garbanzo beans are measuremnts in the dry state, or do i use 1 cup of dry garbanzo beans???

  • @DanielPetryca this recipe is written out on my site, check it out there and it will describe it all :)

  • I use soy flour to hold the falafel together. I do this because I have a wheat allergy

  • @dena7878 great idea :)

  • hi! dede tnx for making a video on how to make falafel..i am asian and falafel is one of my favorite arabic/mediterennian food..

  • @gbubbly20 wow, i'm so glad that you enjoy it, let me know if you have any questions :)

  • Hi Dede

Just made this Falafel yesterday it was FABULOUS !! even the kids loved it ( Btw I used old bread for breadcrumbs to bind the mixture + a little flour) I have tried it in the past and found that this allows me to make the mixture relatively wet but still hold together so the Falafel stays really moist. Thanks again

  • @hdavk that's wonderful, glad you liked it :)

  • Would you please tell me the tips for freezing these FALAFELS?Can I form them into small balls and freeze them ?and what about the baking soda ?when should I add it when freezing FALAFEL?

  • @jawad384 Mix all of the ingredients EXCEPT the baking soda and baking powder. PUt the mix in a sealed bag or tupperware, freeze it. When you want to make it, take it out the day before and defrost it in the refrigerator, about 15-20 minutes before frying, add the baking soda and baking powder and mix it well, preheat the fryer, try one falafel ball, if it falls apart, add a few tablespoons flour to the mix, if it frys up well, then you're set and just fry up the rest and enjoy :)

  • i just like the word falafel

  • @abriniasporelover lol...as long as you like something about it :)

  • Thank you a million, I tried the recipe it was the best. I did one thing different and added an extra ingredient Parmesan cheese, it was fantastic about a half a cup.

  • @PalaisCristalLLC that's very interesting, glad you liked it ;)

  • I told a girl that I'm into that I would learn to make this for her. I REALLY wish she just wanted me to make her a hamburger.... lol.

Thanks a lot for the recipe. Wish me luck ;)

  • @eoneil55 awww it's ok, i'm sure you'll totally impress her with this falafel ;)

  • I've done both ways with falafel - the quick way with store bought ingredients and the longer version as you have shown. I tell you there is absolutely no comparison - the longer version is so much more tastier, delicious, scrumptious, finger-lickin. I am one of those busy persons, but no way will I ever short cut and compromise on falafel again.

  • @ilovesyababe yes, fresh falafel is definitely worth it :)

  • I've made Falafel a few times, but never with Fava beans. Totally going to try it this way! Is it necessary to add any flour?

BTW: The sound is a bit delayed on the video, which really scared me. We see you opening the blender, with the sound of the blender going on full speed! Watch your fingers young lady :-)

  • @slimfast67 Lol :) the flour acts as a binding agent and keeps the falafel from falling apart when you fry them:)

  • @dedemed Thank you for this, I used to eat this in Iraq daily and have been craving them ever since I came home. I cannot buy them where I live, so today I will try making them myself following your lead. Wish me luck....oh by the way, you are frikin beautiful, but I see the ring do you have any sisters? lol jk unless you have any ; )

  • @chessinfantry I hope you liked the recipe :)

  • @dedemed The flour has gluten - is there another binding agent to use?

  • @trainlinezoo you can definitely use gluten free flour and it will work just as well :)

  • IS THERE, PERHAPS, WRITTEN RECEIPT THAT BELONGS TO THIS VIDEO?

I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND CLEARLY ALL MENTIONED INGREDIENTS.

    THX!

  • @magensarah All of the ingredients are written out on my site and so are the directions :)

  • just found your recipe for Falafel and can't wait to try it out for my husband who is Egyptian. Can't wait to make this in Egypt for my family . Thank you !!!!!

  • @nadirajmohamed I'm sure they'll love it :)

  • u killing me :( i want this now.

  • @hqhosam1671 I know, watching my videos makes me hungry when I'm to lazy to cook :)

  • falafel + hummus + tebouleh + Houbus Adabi (pita bread) = awesome

  • @Andydag904 I agree :)

  • how can I find the written recipe on your site?

'cause, I am not sure I understood all ingredients you mentioned...

  • @magensarah just look up falafel and all of the ingredients and directions are written out :)

  • Hi Dede,

Shukran for posting this video. I always wanted to learn to make from scratch and this video helped me alot! I apologize if this has been answered already, but what is the texture of the inside supposed to be? Bread-like a hushpuppie or soft like the dough from which it came? This batch didn't fall apart in the oil, but I cooked these on both sides for about 3 minutes and they were soft on the inside. Thanks in advance, and I can't wait to "attempt" your other recipes. Take care;)

  • @liquidbutta18 it shouldn't be wet but it shouldn't be hard either. I would suggest turning down the heat really low and letting the falafel cook a bit longer. It should be fluffy a a bit crumbly but not too wet.

  • @dedemed Thank you for reply;)

  • Thnx Cool and informative recipe! I'll have to try this sometime.

  • @GameLevelEditor thanks, it is so worth the while believe me :)

  • They were awesome!!!

  • @KittyKat461 thanks, so glad that you liked them :)

  • LOVE your recipes!!!!! I'm Jewish and trying to get my Indian husband to try some Israeli dishes. Any suggestions? He like Shakshouka and the like.

  • if i were you I would just make a bunch of your dishes and tell him to just taste them, i'm sure he can't resist once he smells them and how wonderful they are :)

  • In your video the pop up box says to add 1 teaspoon baking soda and no mention of baking powder but on your website it says 2 teaspoons of baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon baking powder. Which one should I follow? Also do I add both 15 minutes before I fry? Thanks a lot!

  • @zeenio85 follow my written recipe, yes you add both 15 minutes before frying :)

  • Shukran, Looks great and I'll try your recipe, tomorrow. Thanks, Yitzchak

  • Great recipes! - WORST TITLES!!!! MUST CHANGE!!!!

  • @hhhyr55l i apologize with the title but it actually helps in the search ranking and helps for you and others to find all of my recipes easier :)

  • Can this be baked instead of fried? I stay clear of frying anything.

  • @johnbambammorgan yes you can definitely bake them at 450 degrees for about 20-25 minutes, I like to spray them with olive oil spray too :)

  • can you please make a video recipe for deserts like Sahlab and malabi thankyou :)

  • @sgtlias will do :)

  • @dedemed thankyou very much :)

  • can you bake these aswell? the other recipes I've seen for baked falafel usually call for soaking the beans overnight, and then boiling them...:) great channel

  • @kapsanras Yes you can definitely bake them, just do the recipe the same way, but instead of frying, place the falafel balls on a greased pan, place the falafel balls on the pan and then spray them or paint them with some olive oil, bake at 450 degrees for about 20 minutes :)

  • hey dede i was following your recipe but the only thing i didn't have was cumin - i know curry has cumin in it so i put a little curry in and it tastes pretty good. Next time I'm going to the supermarket im going to pick up that cumin.

  • @KhrisAbee good job at improvising and I'm glad you liked the falafel :)

  • awesome videos, quick question:

how long can thew mixture be kept in the fridge before cooking?

  • @121212steve you can refrigerate it for up to 1 week before it goes bad, or freeze it for up to 30 days :)

  • my falafels were cooked outside and raw on the inside? Why?

  • @OurBestMusicChannel you may need to turn down the temperature of the oil in order for the inside to get cooked before the outside burns :)

  • what is the fava beans in arabic please?

  • @KJBIAP100 foul

  • Dede .. you are the best. The falafel came out outstanding. Keep up the good work. Camilia

  • @celdidi207 I am so happy that you like it, great job :)

  • Dede,,, can u guys ship to Mexico? Ana Lubani.. but living here in sunny Mexico...

  • @malikkaji yes we can definitely ship to Mexico, we can ship all over the world :)

  • the two spoons is a technic often seen in French cooking haha. this recipe was killer. Falafel is the original grandma recipe, you cant do it unless you learn it from your grandma, like chicken parm or rye bread. you are adorable, all i could look at was that necklace disappearing into your shirt. OMG,. so bouncy. great cook.

  • @willfullyobscure Yes it is a French cooking method and I love it! And yes the best recipes are from family :)

  • can u substitute fava beans with something?

  • Love your vids! Can you substitute the cilantro with anything else?

  • @freekristy well cilantro adds a lot of flavor but if you can't find cilantro then just add a bit more parsley :

  • @Shyamalacruise wonderful!

  • I am so glad i discovered you here on Youtube, while looking for Baba Ganoush recipe...

I visited Israel in October and fell in love with this dip. Also had the Falafel in Bethlehem ate them plain with lemon... Thanks for sharing your cooking passion with the rest of the world.!!!

  • @EmilyArzola wonderful, HAPPY COOKING! check out my site for all of the written recipes :)

  • garlic, "the best ingredient in the world!" classic.

  • @habibicomedy I agree :)

  • garlic is the best!

    lovely video,

    thank you

  • @tedosius thank you, i'm glad you enjoyed it :)

  • Thank you so much for sharing this and all your other recipes! I can't wait to make this...I was about to go to the healthfood store tonight so I'll pick up my dried beans :-)

  • @superterrificwrx fabulous, let me know if you have any questions :)

  • I used Chick peas and Washed Moong Lentil for the base mixture and Fresh coriendor instead of Palsley... added Green chopped Chilli and Rest I kept same as Receipe with an addition of Greek Yogurt in it... found the mould in an Egyptian Shop in Athens and the Flafel turned out to be pretty good... Actually I would rather say much better than the Local Egyptian Shop as far as the taste is concerned... and one more thing,,, I served it with Tzatziki (yogurt blended with Garlic paste, cucumber)TKS

  • @daintgautam wonderful, you did a great job, it sounds amazing.

I love my falafel with tzatziki sauce too :)

  • Thanks dede .can u tell me what is fava beans .can it be omitted or no.

  • @fantasie2live it can be omitted and you can use all chick peas instead.

fava beans are a little bit bigger than chick peas and they are white and oval.

  • Amazing! The step by step really helped. All my vegan friends have been begging me to make falafel from scratch, and I was itching for it pretty badly - it came out so well! Restaurant quality, thanks to the spoon trick. Thanks!

  • @LolaArmyBrat you are so welcome, i am so glad you like it. check out my site for other vegan and vegetarian recipes. A lot of them can also be made vegan or vegetarian if need be :)

  • Thanks Dede! I made them and they were amazingly yummy! One question, should I have cooked the garbanzo and fava beans? (I did take the outer layer of the fava beans off) What say you?

  • @BoredomIsBoringTV No you do not need to cook the beans first, they should be raw, see the written directions on my site :)

  • @dedemed iv just gotta tell ya i fancied falafel today and bought some labelled as morrocan falafel from waitrose made by cauldron they were awful have you ever heard of putting cinnamen apricots ginger honey and vinegar in it. its advertised as authentic food its seriously crap

  • @doh1959 try this recipe, it is the original and so tasty, i'm sure you'll love it :)

  • @dedemed i have tried it its very gd i just couldnt believe the rubbish waitrose falafel its enough to give people the wrong impression of a great meal thanks for reply

  • @BoredomIsBoringTV garbanzo beans ?? lol...

  • @istiiizzz yes they are the same as chick peas.

  • Love this recipe! I am wondering whether or not it'd be easier to just mold the falafel by hand next time instead of trying to use 2 spoons.

  • @archimmes You can do it any way that is easiest for you :)

  • your voice sounds like Mila Kunis

  • @thesoused very interesting :)

  • @Dedemed I just came from a restaurant and had fresh falafel. They were the best I've ever had. The outside was thin and crispy and the inside was crumbly but very moist so moist that you couldn't really stick it with a fork. Is that how it should be?

  • @edwardmgee Yes that is correct, check out my site for this written recipe and you can make it at home :)

  • hey, i really appreciate the homemade recipe, i plan to use it for a thanksgiving potluck! but i have no idea how to cook the sauces, do you have a link of a good recipe, or your own that you could share? thanks xx

  • @lanekays yes, the tahini sauce recipe and the garlic sauce recipe are all written out on my site :)

  • Thank you for all your hard work! Will be making it soon.

  • thanks for the recipes!!!

    toda raba chaverah!!

  • Sorry i just realized you answered that in the video. Thx.

  • @dalyadajani no problem :)

  • Hi Dede,

Can i use canned garbanzo beans? Thanks!

  • @dalyadajani actually for this recipe you MUST use fresh beans, the canned ones have to much moisture and are to tender for falafel, it will turn into mush if you use canned ones :)

  • @dalyadajani no, you must use fresh beans, if you use canned beans then it will turn into mush and will fall apart when you try to fry it :)

  • you're hot

  • I'm wondering what this recipe would be like if the bread crumbs were omitted. I can not eat wheat.

  • @davisj10 try replacing the bread crumbs with another type of non wheat cracker. You need to add something that absorbs and thickens. Try using rice crackers or rice flour :)

  • @dedemed Made these without fava beans and bread crumbs. Added 1/4 cup of ground up pecans and a few Thai chilies and baked in an oven @ 250 for an hour. They turned out great and had a nice crisp outer layer. My boyfriend is a diabetic and can not have rice or wheat because it makes his glucose spike for an extended period of time. The mixture was a tad bit sticky but I was still able to make the paddies.

  • @davisj10 this sounds amazing, wonderful job at improvising, I will definitely use your trick for anyone else who asks. HAPPY COOKING!

  • You should include the recipe list on the youtube channel or add the link to your website in the info section so we could go straight to it. Also: should include the recipe for the dip/sauce! I cant understand what you called it and want to make it as well! :)

  • @MsLibertyTX Hello, my website is written in the info section of every video and is all listed on my channel page. All of the sauces and written recipes are on my site :)

  • How long can falafel stay edible ?

  • @Nukefuzion about 1 week :)

  • mmmmmmmmm......falafel.

  • Dang it! Now I have to go shopping again! Can't wait to try this with my girls

  • @odbu812 believe me it will be well worth it :)

  • made me hungry just watching...being in Texas, the spices are very familiar

  • @jsTexas wonderful then you can make this :)

  • Ok I looked up the recipe on ur website and it included baking soda and baking powder. When do i add that i ddnt c it in the video..

  • @scorpio1711 You are correct, i forgot to show when I added it in the video. But you should add it 15 minutes before frying :) You can actually make the falafel mix and refrigerate it minus the baking soda and baking powder and then just add that in when you're ready to fry :)

  • My mouth is watering! I love falafel with tahini sauce. I'll try this.

  • @TheRecoveringZombie definitely I promise
