I loved the movie simply because it makes a point about God loving everyone. It doesn't matter who you are or what you do...he loves you. The problem with the movie is that it doesn't quite get to the part when he loves you enough to not let you stay that way.
Your coughing scared me... I hope that laptop was warm, or you should have put on a shirt. Yeah, the movie almost made me cry. What really got me was what the minister said at his funeral, saying something like, "his sin made him kill himself." I lost my mind at that part. >_<
@48acar19 - There are non-bigoted, non-homophobic Christians, Jews and Moslems. Religion can be used for good or it can be used for bad, it is a tool.
In principle, you might appear to be right. Nevertheless in the real world things don't appear to confirm what you are saying!
I was born in Eastern Europe. You cannot even figure how much damage is doing there Christianity! In an area covered by a harsh communist dictatorship, people used to have little exposure to religion. The first religious agents who came (to Romania, to Moldova) were hard-core southern baptists, very close to the Church of Westboro, to Fred Phelps' ideas.
@48acar19 - I'm not saying that religions do not have a power base and that power base is often responsible for bigotry and homophobia, however there are plenty of good people who are not bigoted and are not homophobic but who are members of the Christian, Moslem and Jewish communities. My point is that even if there were no religions there would still be homophobic bigots.
More than that, you can take Uganda's example. Until now, Uganda did not have homophobic laws. Nevertheless the Catholic Church and the Protestants have done "a very good job over there" and they have convinced the politicians to introduce anti-gay laws in that country from June on.
Whatever you are saying about non-bigoted religionists sounds great, but the truth is that over 99.9% of the Muslims are more that bigots and the majority of fundamentalists Christians are similar.
@48acar19 - I'm quite familiar with all that. I've been around for some time and I've fought many enemies, but I've also seen many religious people who are fighting on our side and they hate the way that religions have been perverted as much as we do.
@48acar19 la religion cristiana en si no condena la homofobia son simplemente personas homofobicas que utilizan la religion para justificar su homofobia le religion cristiana se basa en las leyes del amor y unidad
Read both the Old Testament (where homosexuals are being killed according to both Leviticus and deuteronomy, and "their blood should fall upon them' (in their languages the old Jews are saying that the culprits are exactly the homosexuals and not the killers) and in New Testament, where St Paul is saying that "the men who are burning for other men" (that means the homosexuals) will be punished with the eternal damnation to hell.
The Christians that are not homophobic are not really obeying the bible. They have invented thir own religion. When Christianity was invented in the ancient world, it was the only homophobic religion besides Judaism (from which it derives).
The ancient Greeks an Romans respected the homoerotic love.
Now there are many Christians who want to re-write history and to save Christianity.
Prayers for Bobby will make you weep for humanity. How with all the reasoning used of imaginary beliefs to bring so much hate and pain to gain control of their society and condemn each other. And maybe, just maybe there are some Bobbies out there who will be able to live a full and happy life and bring joy to others, if only the veil of hatred stoked by ignorance can be lifted just ever so little. EVERYONE should see this movie and look within and ask yourself, Where can I change this story?
I was once in a church too and I thought our church is pretty acceptable about this but I soon they start a plan about how you can "change", and that's the part I decided to leave.
I'm 44 and have been out for 26 years, and I can tell you whole heartedly it will be okay. All of you hang in there. Talk to PFLAG, find a support group, and then worry about the rest after. Have a network of people in place, and feel good about where you are before trying to come out to the family if you can. HRC and others can also help you.
Have you seen the British film "Beautiful Thing"? I thought that was maybe even better than Prayers for Bobby...Download it online or I could send it to you. I love movies that deal with hard subjects like that and actually portray the reality of the situation which is often life or death...
Ya, I cried, I mean I sobbed uncontrolably watching this movie. I have to come out soon. I'm scared shitless, but I have to do it. God help me.........
I came out 2 weeks ago to my family. Everyone except my mother supports me 100%. They were great. Especially my son. When I went to tell him, I froze up and couldn't talk. He said, what's wrong Dad, tell me now. Finally I did, and he said no big deal, no problem, why didn't you tell me a long time ago?.......cont....
I was shocked at how awesome he was. I told him what a great son he is, and he said, you and mom made me that way. I had all I could do not to burst out crying. After, I was so releived. When I told my brother, he said, I am gay too.
@classic287 hey it's okay. I gotta tell you they might not accept it at first, but what can they do? Kill you? Banish you? If your family loves you truly, they will accept you for who you are. Trust me, i've been there.
It is hard to watch & me being gay everything in the movie i can relate to..... its heart breaking.... But thats how hard it is for most gay people, not being accepted is the most painful thing & being rejected by your mother is the most heart breaking thing in this world, just wished she opened up & got info on gays before he took his life.... This video should be seen by every family that has a gay or lesbian child....
Man that movie tore me up. Especially the end and when the girl took the call and found out her bother was dead...You should see, "Get Real" and "Beautiful Thing"...especially Beautiful Thing...both made me cry too...they were ten times better than P4B. You can download them from the net...
I watched the movie 3 times when it came on Lifetime and cried SOOOOOOO hard every time. I think the part that made me cry the most (happy cries though) was the end when she hugged the boy :) But I was pretty much a mess through the whole time. Hehe.
I loved the movie simply because it makes a point about God loving everyone. It doesn't matter who you are or what you do...he loves you. The problem with the movie is that it doesn't quite get to the part when he loves you enough to not let you stay that way.

There are things that are far worse than homophobia, like the three religions that are condemning homosexuals for what they are!
Christianity, Judaism and Islam are far worse.

La verdad es que la biblia es HOMOPHOBIC!
It does not matter what some Christians believe.
