  • You seem to be well aware of how Slice of Life anime play out(or the lack of them playing out!), and seeing as you at the very least enjoyed Aria, I highly suggest Mushishi if you haven't already seen it. It's a lot more than a simple Slice of Life like Aria; not that Aria is less of an anime because of its simplicity.

  • Ojii-san, have you watched the first half of Natural yet? Didn't it ship a while ago?

Wait till you get to the end of season 3, you will be in tears. You shouldn't marathon it, watch a max a few episodes a day, perfect for chilling out. Get maximum effect by watching alone, since if you watch it someone else, it will just feel sappy and you will be more likely embarrassed about watching it.

Are they going to release the OVA (DVD only episode) in america too?

  • Both parts of Nozomi's North American release of A:Natural are out, and I've watched 'em all, and even recorded some comments which I should get around to posting within the month.

If by 3rd season you mean what's called The Origination, it doesn't look like that's been licensed for the US, at least not yet. Nor the OVA. I'm onboard if Nozomi does.

  • Accoring to animenewsnetwork:

"Right Stuf will ship the first box set of 13 episodes from Aria the Animation on September 30, and the set's DVDs will include Japanese audio and English subtitles. More of the anime, which includes the next two television seasons Aria the Natural and Aria the Origination as well as Aria the OVA ~Arietta~, will follow thereafter."

So they have lisenced everything of aria, just a matter of time when they release them, good news.

    Awaiting your commentary!

  • You should review Maria-sama ga miteru next

  • GrumpyJiisan, the impression I get from Aria is one of atmosphere. You are right in saying Neo-Venezia is an idealized place. The mangaka Amano once referred to it as a "futuristic healing" show, and it's the perfect type of stress relief after a long day at the office. You noted as much in your review, and I'd go so far to say that it is the raison d'etre for Aria. It's the anime equivalent of "Chicken Soup for the Soul".

  • I like how you added some more personality to your reviews.

  • I lol'd at his bit at the end.

  • I need to watch this... all my free time is gone during college though -_- I'll be watching this soon though.

  • I've been wondering if you were going to review this. Felt like mentioning it before. Love that series.

  • I finally got to sit down and watch this...

...and yes--that Cat NEEDS to be in congress! ^_^

    Happy New Year, BTW, Oji-san!

  • 「恥ずかしいセリフ禁止!」

    の使い方がとても面白かったです

  • Spice and Wolf is a similar thing, I think. Wandering trader Lawrence goes travelling through middle-age Europe with a wolf goddess. Very character driven with more drama than action, but enough significant events to keep me watching.

  • Great review!

If you liked this series, I was about to recommend Mahoraba, but then I remembered that the show is even more shojo-romance oriented with focus on "cute girls," so maybe not quite for Ojiisan. But a show with similar format of ARIA is "Sketchbook ~full color'S~", which has been dubbed in Japan as "land-ARIA," since it takes place in mountains rather than a rivery city.

  • Row row FIGHT DA POWAH

  • Dangit, I was thinking the same thing...for a moment, I was sure this was going to be a Gurren Lagann review!

Still, if I had to chose between fightin' the powah and a nice and easy cruise on a gondola, I'd take the latter. Thanks for waking me up to Aria, Oji!

Also: Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

  • I love Aria. It's so sweet and gentle. Aria just gives off that warm fuzzy feeling kind of vibe that makes you cheer up when you view it.

  • awesome review. i have been meaning to check this out. loved your interesting insight.

  • A great review!

  • Nice review, but the recording equipment for some reason makes the "s" sound stand out way too much.

  • it's kaidoh from prince of tennis

  • Nice review, the second season will come in 2 boxes sets, since it has 26 episodes. Later nozomi will subtitle and release the OVA and third season as well, which has 13 episodes.

Only parts where something really happens, is the start of the animation when they meet up, and the end of origination when they part. And it really gives you girly tears to see them go their seperate ways

The theme changes a bit during the seasons from easy going to a bit more seriousness, you need to check em out!

  • your mic is a bit bad, a lot of breaking up with the voice

  • That is a beautiful sunrise in the video. I can only imagine how much more incredible it was in real life. Awesome introduction, even if it did seemingly contain more action than the entire series that you reviewed.

Your comment about not being "more of the same" rang a particular chord in me. I find most of my objections with current anime are that it fits too neatly into one mold or another. I may pick this up purely to experience something different, for a change. Thanks for the review.

  • Great review, with lots of humour LOL.

I'm gonna check this series out! XD

  • LOL nice amen about the last part haha

  • Grumpy Ojii-san is awesome. I never thought that much about ANY anime.

  • I've been meaning to watch Gondola Girls from Mars for some time now.

  • Laughed so hard at the Long winded Conspiracy theory about in Aria's travel costs.
