@stevejobs101. It's extremely easy to upgrade the processor on the Mac Pro. Have you ever opened up a computer before? All you would have to do is take off the heatsink, remove the thermal paste, swap processors, reapply thermal paste the heatsink and you're done.
9 out of 10 times, a mac Pro is a wate of money, a PC with considerably better processing power fro most general tasks can be built for <£1000. A PC for example with an i7 or even i5 will be fast in most all tasks, plus it's easily upgradable. The only advantage to the mac pro would be for film studios, rendering on all 12 cores for days on end, of fluid dynamic simulation etc... Just my opinion.
so, i do photoshop, video editing and animation work for my college classes. Now, the question is, to any one that would know, do i really need a pro, or could i get by with an iMac? I really don't do a hole lot of this work but at the college we use these and i would like to have a Mac anyways. I just dont know what would be best. I do 1 to 3 projects every semester.
@lilwood87 You could probably get by with an iMac, as they have gotten a lot better since I made this video. And if your talking about college, you might want to look into a MacBook Pro. It's basically a MacPro, but in a laptop. Going around from class to class or to other parts of the campus, this would be nice. Or, you could also unplug it and take it over to your buddy's room and without any hassel. They have plenty of power to edit in Final Cut Studio and what not. Just a thought.
that 42" won't have the resolution that the apple will... so it will look like crap when your face is up on it trying to read your email.. that and plasma's will "burn in" when used as a computer monitor...
plasmas do look good... but only given the right application... your not going to find a display much better than the apple... there is a reason why professionals use them!
@painfultone i do agree with you that it does have better resolution and everything, but it is to expensive for a LED monitor because out here in Canada it costs $1230 for one screen.
nice vid im buying 3 mac pro's and 3 27" display and all of the best options for the 12 core mac pro ya it will cost me about 20 grand but i can pay it. LOL.
great job I am thinking about getting a mac pro pretty much exactly what you are doing, another great job!!!! you answered a lot of me and my moms questions i am basicly going to be using it for editing and use it for normal computer life thanks. And once again great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they aren't worth half this you could get a dell xps 8100 which looks twice as good and has features which would blow this away for only £1000 if you customized it yourself
@haltzy. Well, not really. I probably could have gotten away with an iMac or MacBookPro, if I wanted. However, I made this video a while back, and I now do a lot more video editing, photoshopping, and other things. I had the money, and I'm glad if I got it. If you don't have enough money for a full MacPro system, you can get away just fine with a smaller model. However, I'm spoiled, so I went with the MacPro, of which I love. :)
@V87TLR nvidia are known for making the best graphics cards, ATI are also very good, maybe even better, but nvidia are known for having the best cards.
@Nadav34. I the resolution of it is capable of 1280x1024 pixels, but when accessed using provided APIs, the image is re-sampled to 640x480 pixels. There is a Wikipedia page on it, and thats where I found the info. I find it is one of the nicest webcams I've used.
@Nadav34. I forgot to also add that Logitech has now an "HD" webcam, and clearly that would be higher resolution. But nonetheless, I still love my iSight.

Its kinda interesting that the mac PRO is strictly for PROFESSIONAL VIDEO AND PHOTO EDITORS WHO USE THESE COMPUTERS TO PRODUCE TV SHOWS AND ETC. And a 16 year old boy (Just guessing but its probably around there) has one in his bedroom with a 800 dollar apple cinema display, a 70 dollar keyboard, and a 60 dollar mouse... Spoiled much?
@JacobWazThere. Haha. Thanks, Jacob. And yes, I am spoiled by insane proportions. However, I do take the time to appreciate what I have and value truly what it is worth. I'm thankful for what I have, and I see that not many others have it at my age. I appreciate the comment. Oh, and I was 14 when I filmed this. :)
@p13oyd. Thanks, man! And, sadly, no. The display does not have a on/off switch. But, if you are in the market for a Mac Pro, you may just want to purchase a 3rd party monitor. They will be just as nice and MUCH cheaper. Mine was 1,000 bucks, when you can get one just as great for less than 500. I think it comes partially with the Apple name, but that's just my thought.
Yea, I was interested in purchasing a mac pro or a 17" macbook pro. I would do a lot of design work with Photoshop and Dreamweaver. I was thinking of upgrading my 2008 13" Macbook as it just doesn't cut it for me any more but a great machine none the less! I'm moving into Uni next year and I'm think maybe a Macbook pro would probably be a better move, though I do need a machine with a decent graphics card in it!
@p13oyd. Yah, it is pretty strange. Apple makes great stuff, but they practically steal your money. Haha. But, thats just what I think. And I was in the same position as you a while back. I got a 2007 MacBook, but once I got into video, it just didn't have the power. And yes, MacPro's are SUPER HEAVY! Mine is something around 40 pounds of solid metal! It was pretty hard just taking it out of the box! A MacBook Pro is my recommendation, but defiantly do your research.
just because the nvidias are a better buy, does not mean it is more efficient. the 4870 is better than two gt 120's. the gt120 is just a rebranded 9500 gt- a joke.
Hmmm. I don't think I can answer that question, because it is all what you are planing on using it for. Video editing, and if your thinking about upgrading your computer in the future, I'd lean towards the Mac Pro. The iMac is a really powerful computer, though. Almost all the popular YouTube stars use iMacs, and not Mac Pros. Mainly because of cost. Just really think about what you'll use it for. Don't talk to the people @ the apple store for advice; they don't know crap. Trust me.
im gonna be doing quite a bit of video editing and gaming stuff and considering im 13 a lot of homework and school projects, i would also do some gaming and would appreciate a very fast pc because atm i have a dell studio 17 laptop
@Fear3001 i agree with him, it's all personal opinion. personally i own an iMac, Macbook Pro, and soon to be a Mac Pro. it depends on what you want to use it for. i use my macbook pro, for final cut, and i used to use my iMac for just playing around. serious enthusiasts will enjoy the expandability of the mac pro. you can upgrade ram, gfx, processor, hard drives (up to 8TB) and optical drives. also, you can tap the internal sata ports for extra hard drives via non-hot pluggable esata.
Good Video, but you may a few mistakes. Your Mac Pro has two ethernet ports. Not the same as telephone. It does not have a modem or ability to connect a normal telephone. Also it supports up to 8TB of storage at 2TB Per drive.
Thank you for this video. I just ordered a similar setup. A Mac Pro 2.66 Quad with the ATI 4870 and the same 24" LED Cinema Display. It's gonna be so awesome :-D !
I don' t even know. But, I found the problem. A bunch of dust was clogging the fan and what not. It was also in a small closed area by a lot of heat, so that probably played a roll too.
@MedievalHollywood For your sleeping issue due to screen brightness, wouldn't turning the monitor off work? (I don't own that monitor, so I wouldn't know if if you tried that..or what would happen if you did)
Good video just some clarifications must be made. Two Nvidia 120's do not give you a performance boost as they do not run in SLI, the 4870, although 50$ more expensive is MUCH MUCH more powerful than 2 GT 120, especially for gaming and video editing. You are not getting any performance boost with your second GT 120. Otherwise great vid.
Hey. Sorry for the late response. To connect the Mac Pro to the LED Display, you need to use the Display Connector cord that comes with the LED Display. If it is not an Apple LED Display, then sorry, I don't know. But the connector cord is automatically connected to the LED Display when you buy the display.
