  • Oh my god, we played this last year. I miss this so much!! Go horns!!!

  • Mceachern wind symphony is play this !!! Woo I love my band :)

  • Bass clarinets rocking out on that power line!

  • This is 8 minutes of total bad-assery.

  • Dat Bb. (horn players will get this)

  • @iForgotMyFirstAcount first, didn't know "acount" only had one "c." Second, this is a high school clinic band. In most places, they only get 1-5 rehearsals of this music before they perform it; step off your artistic high horse! lol

  • amazing piece, okay performance.

  • The muted trumpet parts in the beginning here were so fun to play.

  • That Xylo part just about killed me, but I made it through

  • my band director had the privledge to work with mr. maslanka and she said it was amazing ... he writes all his music like dreams....

  • I saw the alto 1 for this piece and it made e glad I play bari. I love this movement!

  • After playing this piece all weekend in an honor band, the chops just feel as if they bleeding... specially during 6:19 to the end XD

  • @linenbox I had to write encouragement on the music itself just to hold out that low A on the bari sax for as long as I could. I miss this piece so much.

  • @linenbox trying playing this and godzilla eats las vegas in the same set while being lead trumpet. jesus christ, my lips practically were falling off

  • Love this piece! My favorite part is the theme at 1:40. :-)

  • NarumiKenshin, I didn´t understand the las parte ot your comment, google translater is so bad translating in spanish from english expressions. But I imagine that you agree with me.

  • Cheesy Petes the triplets are tough @ 2:32. O_O All the way up to 2:45, amazing piece! the Alto Sax 1 part is rough as can be =P

  • Brass sounds good

  • Who had the valor to put this musiCAL VIDEO IN INTERNET?????

The flutes and piccolo have the worst affination I never hear!!!!!!

    What a pain!

  • @TheLucifla Interesting word choice of affination to describe the flute/pic in the slow portion of this song. To be fair that shit is soooo far 8va that is rough to hit on good pitch =P

  • 2:46-4:30 is one of my favorite parts. Don't even get me started at 6:20-7:33.

  • I love both movements of this piece so much! I played the tenor sax part on this with two different bands, both times were an amazing experience. I hope to play Maslanka's Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Ensemble I. Song: Fire in the Earth for my senior recital, but with a piano reduction of course.

  • whoever disliked this video is an idiot.

  • My favorite part is the Bach chorale at the very end, it's such an awesome ending for this piece.

  • I remember playing this my sophomore year in high school , it was great ! :)

  • 0:45 go basses!!!!!

  • love love love the oboe solo at 3:20

  • David Maslanka is a mad genius. His work is phenomenal.

  • The Percussion 1 part (xylo, vibes) rocks my socks.

  • @ plasterguy21 way to be humble.

  • @tromboneguy42 ....move?....you mean most?

  • my school (wbhs) played this. The judge came into the room for sightreading and says. first: the next band doesent want to play right now. theyre scared that theyll look band. and second: i just think you guys are the reason we dont need art schools.

  • David Maslanka came to UofT and worked with the two wind bands here as we played his pieces Testament, Give Us This Day, Traveler, and Symphony No. 8. Working with him and listening to him just talk is one of the greatest things ever. Maslanka is so good at what he does. Real honour to have him in with us.

  • I've now played this piece twice... Two separate honor bands. I'm a French Horn player, and advice to anyone who ever plays this on Horn... To play it right, you need to go all out. It's just that kind of piece. It's amazing. And if you've got the solo, relax. It's the easiest, most relaxed part of the piece. Enjoy. :D

  • @Undefined14 gah, I know! My band is playing it this year and I'm a horn player. This song is amazing and the rips in movement 2 from Bb to Bb are rediculous but amazing if you actually hit them. Everyone in my section goes all out except the two third-part players. So, Im pretty excited! :D

  • I loved playing this piece. It was so much fun

  • i play xylo on this and its fml hard :/

  • @willyk299 It is! The guy that played xylo for our all county group was called out many times for it. And he's an all-state player! I thought I'd never see the day.

  • @bandfreakxx the guys playing our xylo/vibes and bells/marimba parts had little to no experience READING NOTES before we started playing this song, let along play the song itself. we went out just about everyday. (i played the fun tom/bass drum/snare/cymbal part.) and they still did fairly well

  • played this in my freshman highschool band and it was BA and awesome with bothe movements and just a crazy song

  • i prefer 1:40. Its the most fun to play and listen to. in my opinion.

  • this song sounds like something you'd hear from a scary movie, cuz' it's well composed, and it paints a movie in your head.

  • I am playing this this semester and it is badass

  • Love that brutal major 2rd ending. Such resolve.

  • This song is crazy!! And guess what??? My boyfriend is playing it in the missouri state band in Jan. (state band 2009-2010) :) Can't wait to hear them play!

  • Possibly my favorite piece I have ever played.
