  • great great!!

  • Awesome. Still the coolest song ever written!

  • I think this is fantastic. This gives me hope that all I need is my guitar to produce some great music.

  • that was great,i love take5 :) and you played it well.

  • Nice!!!

  • The sax sound quite well ..in my desktop monitors!! would you say that the piano sounds, the strings and pads, violin or cello sounds are as good as this ? thanx..

  • Well played!

  • this video kicks ass

  • play careless whisper !!!!!!!!

  • haha sweet ! worth the money just to play this tune if that's all you did

  • awesome!! i need this

  • Nice

  • Why would someone want to play a saxophone on a guitar??

  • Ahhh a tradionalist lol ,,open your mind to what is possible ,,what is free ,,,what is right ?,,,,,,no matter what instrument you use , you are producing sound ,the very essence of music ,,,,the sound of an acoustic guitar is either from brass and nylon over a timber chamber ,until this had been achieved ,it had been messed with hundreds of time ,,,evolution of an instrument ,an instrument = a tool ,,,,,,a means to achieve sound ,,,,,,and have you seen how costly a violin is or a sax ,,exactly

  • @indrazor1

Maybe he can't play a sax.Go watch Alex Hutchings at Nevada Music to see what this can do.Hell,I can't even play guitar, but I'm gonna get one of these!

  • That's quite a convincing job by the pedal. Love the playing too bud. You've 'got that swing'. (and in 5/4 too!)

  • You did a great job!

  • excellent

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow really nice work. i dont suppose you know how i can get the latency down with midi do you?

  • como quisiera poder comprar ese pedal, y tocar efecto trompeta, saxo.. ahhhh!..... Ud señor toca de maravilla

  • god that is SO friggin good and awesome

  • great

  • Nice demo but that sounds nothing like a real sax,but nice playing tho

  • I never knew James Earl Jones could play guitar like that!

  • That's pretty awesome, I have to get this thing now.

  • What kind of guitar is that? It looks pretty neat!

  • waw 100%

    thanx for sharing

  • I never knew anything like this existed...what a great performance...you made it feel like we were listening to a sax player...outstanding work.......Norm

  • sounds great! nice job!

  • Sounds like Coltrane!

  • @spanked316

    or....dave brubeck!

i love it. i hope im still making guitar videos when im your age. seriously :) this is amazing.

  • One of the best demo's of this I've heard on YT.

  • great vid. classic brubeck =]

  • Do you absolutely need the GK-3 Divided Pickup? Will it work without it?

  • Can the GK-2 pickup be use as a midi trigger for Synth module w/o the GR-20?

    Awesome playin' btw!

  • loved it! I hardly ever comment on something until I saw this.

  • Sounded very, very good. Are you happy with the GR-20?

  • cool!

  • does this sax patch let you control your vibrato? It soudns automated- is there a way to turn the auto vibrato off?

  • great!!!

  • Respect brother respect !

  • Is that acoustic alchemy? Great video.

  • I gotta get one!

  • Oh man that sounds cool. I always liked this tune.

  • Very nice job. What was producing the backing track? Was that Band In A Box?

    Thanks

    Ron

  • great video. The key to using the GR20 is to play within the range of the instrument being emulated. Youve done that extremely well

  • those things r way to expensive... but i love it!

  • Thank you sir this was very entertaining.

  • im very impressed,,i want one..

  • hey dude i saw you at guitar center :D

  • Great job ... I'm still exploring my gr20 and loving it.

  • well done

  • really nice job ;)

  • its so nice to see someone with the same guitar as me, lol

i was starting to think i was the only one with a fiesta red re-issue

  • Robert Fripp uses the midi pickup on his Les Paul Last I had checked.

  • this is so wicked! well done!

  • i had my gr-20 on my les paul works well then i changed it to my strat works better on the strat. more responsive on the strat. its the scale length i think..

  • ive seen hundredds of videos and everybody seems to be playing Strat's

  • Comment removed

  • Wow where did you get the backing track for this video,?

  • ha that really sounds like a saxophone!

  • Absolutely, absolutely excellent. Very smooth playing.

  • sounds fantastic. awesome playing

  • brilliant

  • it sounds great. I really liked your improvisation as well. thanks for posting ;)

  • Sorry, one more reccomendation-RMC pickup, it is far more fast/accurate and very balanced as either a hex-synth or just as a piezo pickup...I really like your playing, by the way.

  • Howdy abelkin-I've got the GR-33 and AXON AX100 mkII and both a GK-2 and RMC pickup configs. String gauge matters, as do windings. Heavier string gauges produce a more stable vibration whose fundamental tone is more quickly recognized by the pickups. Likewise, flatwounds produce inherently less extraneous noise (which can trigger false notes, especially on a GK-equipped guitar). One must play cleanly order to get the most of MIDI guitar, but the right gear makes a world of difference as well.

  • Glad you liked it.

The GR20 is the only Synth I ever owned.

I use 10 gauge and it responds very well. The metallic quality o the strings matters more than the gauge I think.

    Regards,

    Abel

  • @abelkhin Hi Abel!

It looks like you have added a microphone that goes straight to the GR20.

I'm thinking about buying a GR20. But do i have to buy one of those extra microphones to make it work, or can i just play without one? What is the function of it?

    // A fan

  • Excellent !! Well Played :) I'm wondering if the VG-99 has the same sounds as a Synth , I'm considering either the GR20 or the VG-99 .. May I Ask , I heard for most of us out there playing the 09 Gauge Strings the GK3 pickups may not respond as good as the 10 + strings , is this true ?

    Thanks

  • This is awesome-I have always loved that Brubeck song, and to see and hear it played like that is really impressive. One thing I'm trying to find out but can't seem to get an answer is if it's possible to use a GK-3 pickup and connect straight to my midi audio card and record midi information into Cubase. Or do I need a GR-20 or something similar to get these sounds?

  • you need a gi 20 interface to connect with the pick up. without it, nothing will work

  • LOVE IT

  • Abelkhin, the sax reproduction is amazing considering all the subtle nuances required to even come close to reproducing any brass instrument. Is there a footpedal involved to get these extra degrees of sounds. I'm very tempted to get one of these put on my strat.

  • wow, you in one minute, produced a better demonstration of this unit than the about 20 minutes that Boss used. congrats.

good playing. that's a pretty nifty unit

  • your a bad man with that guitar

  • my same thoughts exactly lol

  • Incredible playing, and the sound is incredible, I know it doesn't have all the nuance of a real sax but it is way beyond what I imagined.

  • do this roland gr 20 work with polyphonic playing style, and chord ?

  • Comment removed

  • Hey it is new to ya & you're still brilliant. Desmond is smiling & happy with this..

  • that is so cool.. love the sound! awesome playing..

  • Nice, you're not bad or clumsy. You have flow man, you have flow.

  • your playing is amazing...calling yourself clumsy isnt humility. its stupidity. :)

  • Great tune, and great playing as well... and yes, I am thinking about getting this or the larger version of it.

  • clumsy attempt? you're fantastic! brilliant sound from that GR-20!

  • Very Good!!!

  • that's just brilliant

  • Ahhh your so cool!

  • Do u think its a good one Sir??

because i'm planning to buy one!

  • do u think its a good on sir??

because i'm planning to buy one :-)

  • I got one, and Id say go for it. If you play it a bit slower and more defined then this guy on his first attempt, youll find you can get very convincing sounds, especially horns and Sax. Actually, you can prolly get any sound if you work at it a bit. Overall, Im amazed everytime I play it cause I forget how good it is each time (lol). Only thing that kinda sux is that damn pickup. Have to get it just right for good sound and attack, but once its there, man....

    I recomend this highly.

  • I love your style. great feel.

  • it*

  • Thats is i am getting a GR-20!

  • sounds fantastic!!

  • nice

  • Which outputs are you using on the GR-20 and what are you plugging them in to?

  • That's so cool!

  • I've watched this several times. Awesome job!!! Really inspiring.

  • Very cool

  • Brutal Death Metal guitarist here. Absolutely love those gr-20's. Very good job on Dave Brubeck. My old band did a heavy metal Blue Rondo al turk.

  • how does the gr-20 compare to the gr-1?

  • Awesome job man! This is a great song...The String Cheese Incident did a cover of this song and it's one of my favs.

  • cool

  • can you tell me the color of that fender/ look so nice I want one. What model is that

  • the only cheesy thing about it is the background music. I bet it would sound AWESOME with a real band!

  • sounds great! I want one!!!!!!!!

  • I have a question about the GR-20. Do you have to have steel strings on your guitar? Will it work well with nickel strings?

  • Not at at all clumsy - the first decent sounds I've heard from these machines (the synths I mean, the Godins are excellent)

  • Nice work - But shouldn't you have closed the closet door for greater "video ambience"? Nice to see another "seasoned" guy cranking away on a guitar and obviously enjoying and growing with the experience. Good Luck. "Seasoned" Ed-Central Calif.

  • very good

  • These things are awesome.

  • LOL Fantastic

  • LOL... omg... sweet. I mean, yea.. you made a few mistakes... it sounds a tad bit cheesy... but... jesus that's awesome.

  • Very good !

  • Nicely done! I especially like the quotes from the original solo.

  • merci!!!!

  • Hi. Thanks for a great post. It seems as though you get more comfortable with the tracking delay the further you go. If I close my eyes, I'd be hard pressed to not believe it's a really good horn player. Cheers.

  • awesome guitar dude. nice playing too.

  • I need to learn so chords so I can pick one of these up.

    Nice choice of song.

  • this is wicked!!! i would like to have this type of effect, really cool vid by the way and great playing!

  • very good. wish i could play in 5/4 time so easy, goddamn its hard :L cool vid tho! who needs sax? :L

  • I hope I can be so "clumsy" some day. Great job! Mr. Desmond would be proud! :-)

  • Sounds great,though i see your trying

to still conquer alittle bit of that

    off synch delay & timing.

  • Great

  • What about the delay? Do you find it nasty? I remeber with a casio midi guitar (that i loved)

i had some problem in average speed solos.

Is this system really much faster?

  • Well Played 10/10

I was initially looking for a small bass to add to my 4 track work (guitarist).. but this machine seems to offer a lot more options..

    Im tempted

  • i love your playing! thank you

  • Great job man I own one to the sax is tough to use you executed it well with very little blurps .

  • Hello !

Using this gear can you record MIDI on your computer ?

  • do you have to hard mount the pickup to your guitar, or can it be removed with no cosmetic damage?

    thanks

  • What sax samples are those?

  • Thats a Fender Custom Shop right?

  • Awesome... I had a play with a GR-20 today for the first time and I'm now hooked on them.

    Great video :)

  • haha, that sounds awesome man, great job! have you ever heard of the axon guitar to midi controllers? i have owned the roland units before, both gr and gi 20's, but i found the tracking accuracy to be frustrating when playing high tempo phrases and passages. the axon unit is light years ahead of any other units available on the market today so far as speed and accuracy are concerned, check em out! (and no i dont work for them, just a satisfied customer!)

  • Do you like pancakes with gravy or syrup?

  • Shut up asshat!

  • Nice, i'm tempted to buy one of those GK setups now (:

  • Hi, just as Abel - Roland is amazing too -

    Ok superb.

    Turtle0047

  • Excellent job - nicely played

  • Damn!! That's awesome!! I have a VG-99 but I like a lot of the sounds of the GR-20 as well.

  • Really nice! Clean playing and it sounds like a real horn too!

  • Superb !

  • really good stuff

I just bought a GR 30 and hope to get close

  • i have the roland vg-99 and the only missing thing is that saxophone nice sound!

  • Abel

I have the GR-20 and have never liked it much - did you use double-sided tape or screw it to your Fender? The sax patches are probably the best of the entire bunch, although you are also probably playing as fast as the GR-20 can keep up with - which I find its biggest drawback - very slow tracking on most of the patches.

  • Lolly, i have the same problem but with proper adjustment the sound will be as senstive as you want it to be.

I had mine screwed with my guitar. The key is you have to have the gr20 pick-up as close as they can be to the guitar strings. Either you can lower the action on your guitar strings or like in fender guitar the gr20 pick up will be as close as they can be with the fender pick up near the bridge. Hope that helps.

  • do u think the axon is a better buy??

  • i can tell you from personal experience there is absolutely no comparison between the roland and axon units. i had no experience with guitar to midi systems before rolands gr and gi20's were available. i purchased both of them and was happy initially, but found tracking to be a problem. returned the rolands and tried the axon, and like i said, no comparison. the axon faithfully reproduces just about anything i can throw at it, and i have some pretty speedy chops! axon hands down!

  • Dude Nice work!!! Very Impressive!!!

  • Oh I'd love to have the midi file as well...

  • great, fantastic !! awesome sound!

  • Hi i have a few questions about the Roland Gr-20. Does the controller for the synthesizer need to be installed to your guitar? If so did you do it yourself?

  • the pickup is connected to the controller by a wire.

  • Great Playing. This is not a easy song. To play it on a guitar with a synth and with great feel?

    Awesome! Enough Said.

  • Hi:

I notice that you are not using your whammy bar like you usually do. Will the GR-20 work with the whammy bar? How about finger vibrato? Thanks.

  • Well done dude! I used to try to imitate Paul Desmond on my sax. You do better!

  • hello.

    good video!

Please would you answer a few questions i have about this pedal.

    Is there any latency?

Is there a way to bypass the pedal quickly and easily so that you have the raw tone of the guitar?

and can you add new midi sounds into it from logic, cubase etc?

Also, is the expression pedal made of metal?

Please write back, i am tempted to buy one and would like some advice from an owner of it.

    Thank you.

    Luke

  • this is great!!!! what song is that...i love it...

  • THAT WAS AWESOME!!! YES! I loved it.

  • Has anyone compared the GR33 to the GR20. What are the pros and cons?

  • Hi man! Very nice work! liked your videos alot! :) On what webpage did you find this backingtrack?

    have a nice day!

    Kalle (Sweden)

  • I looked at a GR33 years ago and kicked myself for not buying it. I have been looking at the GR20 again. Your video is inspiring! You are very talented, keep em coming!

Where do you get your backing tracks from?

  • Wonderful once again. Glad to see someone enjoying the Roland.

    Best Regards

  • that was bleedin awesome

  • Waw this is cool keep up the good work

  • great. life as a sax player is over. please don't tell me you can a layer a sax and trumpet - and then pay just one guy to play the horn parts with terrible patch sounds...

  • Sounds great!

  • good ! yeeeeee!!

  • very good stuff!...i do the same tune pretty much the same way with the same patches, now tat i got the synth...!

  • Hi Abel

That was really cool 5***** Thanks for sharing. Russ

  • wow that's realy cool

    great sound!

  • Hi Abel,

I'm impressed about the sound. The saxophon sounds very true.

Is it another feeling to play this song with a saxophon sound?

Soon I hope we can listen more songs with the GR-20. You do a great job with this device. Congratulation to your first "test"

    Greetings from Germany

    Silvia
