I didn't even know this clip existed. Thank you very much. This was great! I'm so used to the velvet, smooth Platters. This blew me away!!! Shows their range and showmanship.
If these hep cats were any more cool, they'd be frozen! Love that fancy footwork! Strictly from wowsville, daddy-o! THANKS for sharing this delightful "blast from the past" with us! :)
That's Zola Taylor and The Platters, bass singer ( his names escapes me) is the last survivng original member of the group and he tours with a new Plattrers.
Actually Etta James' version was recorded when Etta was 14 and she was part of a female doo-wop group known and "the Peaches". But to answer your question, this is not Etta James.
shes gonna slap herbie to death.lol inresponce this version is way better than Gisele MacKenzie's and Georgia Gibbs put together but I like Etta's version better than all of them
Takes me right straight back to my defiant teenage years. This "sinful" music was forbidden in my house and the only way I could get away with listening to it was to close my bedroom door and hold my big old heavy RCA tube clock radio flat up against my ear with the volume turned way down! ahhhhh yes, those were the days...
The singers are the Platters. The female singer is Zola Taylor. The male singer who is dancing with her is Herb Reed. Zola calls him Herbie instead of Henry a couple of times.
The one who is dancing and has the bass voice is Herb Reed. the lone survivor of the original Platters.

hebneh: It's from the Ed Sullivan Show. Mickey's monkey; I think it was the other way around. Frankie was her guy since she footed his bills.

I wonder what TV show this is from - it looks and sounds very mainstream. This is an incursion of rock & roll into nighttime American entertainment.

I much prefer Etta James, "unsanitized" version. But it's still better than Georgia Gibbs version.

Zola was married to Frankie Lymon. Etta James recorded "Wallflower-Dance with me Henry" as a answer to Hank Ballard's "Work With Me Annie"

Thanks. The Platters made some fantastic music but I have never heard this one or seen them before.
In this video Herbie does not look entirely happy with the enthusiasm of Zola's slaps.
