the bike is stunning! in fact i'm ordering 1 this week. you say a classy italian bike need componets to match then you go put silver mavis wheels on it? for the same price guide you could have had at least some campag Vento! A frame like this deserves better wheels. A Campag Athena with better wheels combo.. say Zonda would have been a more even spread throughout for the same price, Great review by the way. As always.Pete
Great bike but the Aksium wheels really dropped the ball.. Should be equiped with Ksyriums or even better - Cosmics.. You can put Aksiums on aluminum bike with Veloce, not this stallion. It looks like a Porsche with steel wheels :D
The only real problem with them at this stage is the silicon based clear coat which peels/falls off. It's designed as a comfort/grand fondo bike, long distance, great comfort. But it's not as stiff as he makes out.
@mastercuber maybe they're practical if you've got a gut and can't reach the drops. what is the most common bend in the pro peloton? definitely not those. what did merckx's bar bend look like? gimondi? pantani? indurain? todays top riders? gesink and other rabobank riders are all i can think of...
@412dino 1) I'm pretty sure you're not in the pro peloton so it really doesn't matter what they ride. Lance rides trek does that mean everyone should go buy a trek because it'll make them ride better? No. You should buy what works for you and compacts work for a lootttttt of people who don't need to be ridiculously aerodynamic when they go into the dropdowns
@412dino technology wasnt as advanced as it is now. they road what was available at the time. look into how bikes need to be set up. bar drop is determined by the saddle height. ride a frame thats on the smaller side (i'e as pro's) you get more seatpost height so you need shallow drop bars. remember the "pro's" stretch and work on flexibility. a bike that 'fits' on the slightly larger size your seat is lower bringing you down so your bars need to match this. riding is fun. set up what suits "U"
Will it blend?

What happened to the Mortirolo? Is there a model with a more sportive geometry that replaces it?

You guys talking about the drop outs?
They're freggin' awesome. Aerodynamic and leverage when you need them really helps in the sprints.
Common CC, Aksiums with Chorus 11s?

why are all the bikes getting shallow bars? these would all look so much better with ritchey classics or deda's.
