This is my absolute favorite album by DM, even though I strongly dislike The Meaning of Love and partial (it sounded cool until I heard the lyrics, then i went,"sorry guys, but no." LOL) to A Photograph of You. They've matured over the years, and that's good!
My favorites have to be Satellite, Nothing to Fear, Monument, The Sun and the Rainfall.
@dieselust I've said this before, I like the song, not a problem with it, but it doesn't go with the atmosphere of the album, you know what I mean? I guess I worded it wrong, I should've said "Every track has a dark, brooding, meloncholy feeling (Except for The Meaning of Love and A Photograph of You)."
I love this album, every track (Except The Meaning of Love and A Photograph Of You) has a dark, brooding, meloncholy, feeling, and I just love it's haunting spell... Without a doubt in the world it's my absolute favorite album!
The Meaning of Love is awesome! and A Photograph of You, it's just that they don't suit the album. I was saying that every track - Except the two aforementioned ones - has a feeling that creates the album's atmosphere. Notice that they would almost fit right in with Speak & Spell, while the other tracks aren't as cheery. Though those two are great, but I just love the atmosphere I get from the others. Take Oberkorn, for example, it IS the atmosphere!
@biospark64 I always loved this album too,..some people say that the 2nd wasn't good enough if compare with others lps from DM ; anyway i do not agree with that; " A broken Frame" was really dynamite ; I'd say almost each song taken from 2nd is well done;)
@123xxrobertx I've always thought the same there, as well, the second album always comes out as my favorite. Bloom 06's 'Crash Test 02', Daft Punk's 'Discovery,' Eiffel 65's 'Contact!.' Though, those are band's not many other people who listen to Depeche Mode would know of, I perfer all of their second albums.
@ChildIncomplete I've noticed quite a bit that See You was always in the middle of the 'poppy' debate. Some said it was very commercial sounding like Just Can't Get Enough and The Meaning of Love, and I see where they're are coming from... Very true, it's not too dark, but I look more at its brooding intro and outro, the intro in particular almost sounds ominous.
@biospark64 Totally you should check out remix i did on my utube page not of DM but another band and then check out a track i did myself called Falling :)
@biospark64 cool i will check em out also gary numan is awesome have you heard how industrial rock he got I personally like it better but he says after hearing NIN do closer he was influenced to do his kinda music.
@ChildIncomplete I've never much cared for his new stuff. Ever since he started writing antireligious lyrics, his music hasn't particularly appealing either (Though I kind of like Haunted). His other stuff, like Cold Metal Rhythm, Strange Charm, Change Your Mind, and the stuff he's done in Tubeway Army I love, though!
@ChildIncomplete Cars is indeed a very good one! It's a shame you couldn't see him live though. His studio work lately may not be his very best, but from what I've seen here on YouTube, he's amazing live.
@ChildIncomplete KMFDM? Isn't that like a death metal type band? And haven't some people said their name stands for 'Kill Mother F*cking Depeche Mode?' You have quite a broad range of tastes, my friend! I respect that in a person. =D
@biospark64 yea some people have said that and no they are more industrial rock kind of like what GN is doing now but more guitar oriented their awesome though it was my first concert. and hell I even like Avril Lavigne and Eminem and Michael Jackson so yea I range fairly far I also love horror films I collect em. So a lot my rock liking comes from Horror.
@ChildIncomplete Really? I think industrial rock like Gary Numan's new stuff is pretty well suited for horror films, so I see where you're coming from.
@biospark64 neither am I I just love his lyrics and how much meaning he puts into them I respect artists way more when they can make an awesome sound but beyond that make it to have a meaning in the words. which nowadays you don't see many artists who write their lyrics 2 mean something and not just to be sung. you know?
@ChildIncomplete That I can understand, I've heard he writes a lot for his daughter. Never much cared for the way he outputs it, but it's good to know his songs have meaning behind them. Very true that there aren't many artists who put much meaning behind the songs they put out.
@ChildIncomplete I do believe that Depeche Mode puts meaning behind their songs, especially on the Construction Time Again album. That album in particular makes some good points. =D
@biospark64 It's about Martins kids and what they must be feeling through the divorce him and his wife were going through. Martin has stated that many times and when you listen to it you can really tell. " I pray You learn to trust
@biospark64 I know he's my Idol so I know a lot about him. But it's a great song and he does not tell people because he likes people to make their own meaning and he thinks them knowing the meaning can destroy the value.
@ChildIncomplete South park, not so much, but I do watch some satire - induced shows, like Family Guy, and American Dad. Let's continue this conversation over PM, it's not quite Depeche Mode - based anymore. XD
@biospark64 You're definetly one of the few that would call THIS album their "absolute favorite". Even Martin Gore describes A Broken Frame as the bands "worst". They haven't played many of these songs live and it's pretty weak in comparison to everything else DM released. Once Alan Wilder came on the scene (on the next album) DM took off! But hey, I respect that you have an opinion!
@doubleder I notice a lot of other DM fans favor Alan's production, it's pretty obvious why (It's awesome!). But I also notice that they say DM went completely downhill since he left, which I have to disagree with. I quite like the sounds of ABF, Ultra, and even Exciter. I adore Depeche Mode's more well known songs and albums, but it's the ones that were more of an aquired taste at first that love the most from DM, once I got into it, I became hooked! =D
this remaster sucks

@doubleder
Gore's opinion may be colored by the harsh post-Clarke Departure experience and trying to find his own footing.
As for fans, too many as biased against the early works, having swallowing the whole "Depeche Mode are dark, man!" sentiment.
But this album is excellent work, and certainly better than any post-Violator ones they put out.
