It seems many of us yearn to return to the time of a more civil society. I am among them but I was also alive then and remember having seen a lynching victim hanging from a bridge. Our time may celebrate the crass, crude and poorly-educated but the benefits of life in our Country are shared more widely.
At 2:24, when Steve says "I'll take one," I literally laughed out loud. He's a riot.
I also giggled at what John said about her not wanting to go into the publishing business now that she's had a look at Bennett. Good old Bennett was a bit too lecherous for my taste in this ep, but I suppose he was harmless enough.
If that is what Daly has heard good about TV in a long time, I wonder what he would say if he ever saw the stuff that comes on today's TV. He would have an instant heart attack.
One of the prettiest girls on this programme?...What about Gene Tierney...I think the contestant kind of looks like Katie Holmes...Steve Allen was a very smart man who created the talk show format and became the first host of The Tonight Show...A brilliant man, indeed, brilliant!
This show was on at 10:30 pm on sunday nights and it was live This show represented new york city sophistication and was a dinosoar by 1967 as times were changing....sad but true. .
@miyoshiumeki You made a good point about "New York City sophistication" and the show becoming a dinosaur; as a native New Yorker I can assure you that now only is it not only not popular to put "New York City sophistication" on the air, we've deteriorated to the point where "The Nanny" defines what it is, both on the air and also in real life!
She is graceful, articulate and beautiful. The beauty part is god given, the rest is up to her. She wouldn't be so stunning if she didn't have the grace etc. Lovely lady.
@HAZIDEAD You are so correct. Today, people have become brash, rude and obnoxious because the media portrays these uncouth behaviors as "COOL" How sad our behaviors have "morphed" This is why it is so refreshing to visit people from the Middle East and some other third world countries where serene gentility is greatly appreciated and demonstrated.
@Taharah007 I don't think middle easterners and third worlders are ncie either. they will eb ncie to americans when they are new. Once they get the lay of the land, they become nasty. Especially africans are the worst followed by latinos

Seems that people were so much more soft spoken, professional and decent in those times - especially on TV.

Wait a minute - "You don't test airplanes?" at 5:24 can be interpreted as asking "Do you test airplanes?" She should have gotten a "no".
