  • Wow. Just, wow. Thank you so much for sharing

  • Wow that was incredible. These people are amazing. More people need to about North Korea and its refugees

  • Now she awaits her big hollywood movie contract and book deal!

  • I hope the "Two Koreas" will be reunified soon.

  • Stop calling that dictature communism. It's a very very ugly version of fascism.

  • Man, this made me cry. :'( What a beautiful ending. I'm so glad these people were successful in reaching South Korea and then bringing their loved ones as well.

  • Awesome!

  • And this is why women should rule the world!

  • what an amazing woman.

  • There's nothing a mother won't do for her children.

  • I guess not all ending are bad in life. It have me hope in humanity.

  • Where the fuck is Bo Song father!?!?

  • omg its so nice to see a happy ending

  • For the next 20 years, if the North Korean people keep on fleeing their homeland like that there won't be any of'em left overthere at all.

  • What l'd like to know is when North Korean people defected to South Korea, do they get South Korean nationality and if North Korea invade South Korea will the North Korean defectors fight for South Korea or what?

  • l wonder how Mei, Geum Hee and Bo Song are doing in South Korea now?

  • The one person who disliked this was kim jong-un

  • I cried when Bo Song got to be reunited with his mom wow it was so sad and he was a man waiting until he finally see her.

  • Good upload. I'm an expat in China and often visit the airports and trainstations of Guangzhou, Beijing and others as shown in the documentary. Just wondering how many times I have passed by Nkoreans on the run, while I was too busy caring about stuff that isn't really important. These Koreans blend in, and for me as a foreigner it might even be impossible to pick them out...If they can speak Mandarin I could at least talk with them. Just wish I could help them in some way...

  • Man... seeing how these people had to risk everything, and suffer through the most horrible things really makes me respect the country I was born in.

  • Is there anything more repulsive, disgusting and wicked than a totalitarian regime?

  • Geum Hee is the strongest human being in the universe.

  • Wow, it is so ... insane (I think is the right word), to know just how hostile certain countries can be. I mean, living in Canada, I hear about how hostile illegally immigrating from Mexico to the U.S. is and what can happen if you're caught (jail time or deported back) but there...death is expected.

  • That dumbass who thumbs down this is dumb

  • Happy moment

  • Thank you for posting this video. It makes me realize how fortunate I am to live in a free country. Something that North Koreans are risking their lives to get something I already have is a very touching story.

  • A mother will never leave her cub

  • BE FREE OR DIE TRYING!!

  • God bless south Korea and all his good people.

  • I'm so happy for these people!

  • @anaelle7891 it's so nice of you :)

  • this was very touching indeed.. :')

  • i guess being and treated illlegal is the sadest thing in life, you have no right as an illegal

  • thank you for uploading this movie its an eye opener ....to see more about the sad life in nort korea..........pig kim jong dog hope you rot in hell yr son hope join sooooon

  • god bless the man who is doin g this good deed. I am so happy that kim jong yin pig died, hate detectors may he rot in hell.

  • Pastor Chun ftw

  • Happy ending for these lucky few

  • I, as many others did, cried watching this documentary. I've been taking for granted my freedom and feel for those who have suffered because of their government. I really hope one day there shall be an uprising in North Korea and people obtain the freedom they deserve. God bless the pastors and the many people helping North Koreans. So happy to see that the families were reunited safely in South Korea. :)

  • I think these journalist are stupid, because during the night when you use gogle, the people using it see it like a very big lamp.

  • i cried.....i feel so sad for those poor people... i wish i could help...

    greetings from Athens, Greece.......

  • Amazing people, extremely strong. Thank you for posting.

  • aww i felt so good at the end :D

  • Thank you for uploading this documentary, it left me in tears.

So glad they get to reunited with their families.

  • Excellent, EXCELLENT presentation! Thank you BBC.

  • What a moving story. It is so incredible to see the joy of of freedom in their faces. We should not give up on the N. Korean people.

  • This is better than any damn movie I have ever seen.

  • @IAmSuchANerdLol damn right, this shit made me cry.

  • This documentary perfectly encapsulates the very worst and the very best of humanity. It's amazing to think that the hands of a few can entrap millions into enslavement and famine, yet the hands of a few can risk their lives to rescue just one family. And they keep doing it, dozens of times over.

    What a truly amazing story.

  • slavery is alive and well.

    the horror.....

bravo to these christians for helping these poor woman

  • this film is so emotional :( i pray to the many that try to escape North Korea. I feel so sad that they have done nothing to deserve the pain they are given and have been through. I hope somehow there will be a turnover in their government somehow.

  • @PrincessSakuno Same should apply to anyone else in the world who is fleeing oppression, and seeking a better life.

  • U asian bitches making me cry ;'(

    that was a great documentary.

  • this film is so fucked up. any one from f k ing china or north korea sees this video. they know how, where, and who is helping to cross......they should not have posted maps and locations.

  • I'm genuinely happy for all of them!!!!

  • south korea have no problem to accept those people from the north.

  • @MsLouie76 The Government does not have this problem, but many of the South Koreans in some way dislike them, something that I find horribly wrong, how could you turn away from a person who needs help.

  • @nextstep333 maybe so but it is the human nature. I don't expect me to be liked by everyone that i ever met. I am from South Korea.

  • @surfax100 I assume, you welcome your brothers from the North with all love and respect, but many South Korean Teenagers make fun of the teenagers of the North. I once had a conversation with a South Korean teenager, he said. "The Northerners are in someway inferior to us, I don't even consider them Korean."

  • @nextstep333 Don't get me wrong but "teenagers" are "teenagers". They tend to to think always "them against us". I remember that as I grew up I was taught in school that communists in North Korea are "red". literary the color "red" I mean here. That hilarious. However I grew out of the disinformation as I grew older and realized the truth.

  • @surfax100 You are right, I was told the same when a Korean told me that, I believed it, due to the working conditions. I was also told that they were also red because they were devil, something foolish in my opinion.

  • it makes me sick that the "great leader" has lobster flown onto his train while he travels, yet he lets his people starve. I dont believe in hell, but if there was one, thats right where that monster belongs. And his fat son.

  • Noticed that the Chinese custom officer didn't say "have a nice trip" but "Bye Bye", when she or he noticed that she has a korean accent.

  • omg i was so happy when the families were reunited... i cried so much..i cant even imagine

how hard it must have been to leave everything behind...hope something will change for the better in NK now that Kim Jong Il is gone.and the people from the church...such dedicated and brave people.....good job and good luck in the future

  • South Korea truly is a wonderful country, I lived there for 2 years. Im so happy for the families in this documentary. I cried at the end!!!!!!!!! I never cry.

  • great wish them well in the past :)

  • good riddance to kim jong-il

  • So happy that the little kid is with his mom again :D

  • Very touching documentary, i cried at times seeing this on how we take freedom for granted when others less fortunate risk their lives in the quest for it.

  • good luck Bo Song

  • OMG tear jerker!! I don't think I can hustle and still look gorgeous like these women.

  • good job christians!

  • BBC always amazing - Thank you!

  • Really impressive documentary. Thanks for posting. It must feel great to arrive in south Korea and feeling free. Saying what U want and not praising Kim Jong Il all the time. Starting a new life.

  • Pastor Chun is a hero!

For those interested, his organization is durihana.net

  • wow god bless to all..!!

  • I was crying when No Song and his mom finnaly met up and was a family again in South Korea. God bless those people! They hade a body of steel!

  • oh wow, such an happy ending, and a genuine one too!!! so happy for everyone! god bless you all and your new well deserved free life afterwards!

  • fuck china and north korea

  • if i got one chance to massacre someone in the world before i die, i'll kill the fuck out of the whole Kim Dictator family at N.K

  • Guts. The film crew has it.

  • Live a good normal life Guem hee Seoul Rocks!!!

  • wow..one of the best documentaries ive seen on this topic, those people have fucking balls: the crew and the escapees. be thankful for what you have. o and fuck the countries that persecute refugees, you have no soul

  • How did the boy make it in the end? Did he have some kinda passport?

  • people have crossed into s korea trough the DMZ before.

  • I'm so happy for Geum Hee and he son Bo Sung to be together! That must have been a really rough time for her not to see her son for 6 months.

  • I feel so lucky to live here

  • Those lucky survivors went through hell just to find and get to freedom.

  • the best part are from 2:27 till 3:17 such a tearjerker

  • thank you for these uploads, great quality and great document

  • what a wonderful documentary... good job BBC...

  • @nurseadi21 it was a south korean broadcast, bbs just dubbed it :P

  • @TheMarc220194 i see... well its still good and im so sad for the north koreans. i was a teacher for korean children before to teach them the English language and they are all sweet and appreciative...

  • great!!!!!!

  • Thank you for this documentary...

  • wonderful. thank you so much! but what i don't understand is why the other countries don't help. Why can't china and the other countries help the refugees?

  • great documentary! i hope everyone will help like to this people to live with freedom..

  • Hoe can her son go to s.korea without passport/?? He can not get passport because he has no I.d...

  • @maureenchoi my guess is that when the mother was issued a valid id from South Korea and registered her self as South Korean her child automatically becomes South Korean national allow him to apply for the proper official documents(id, passport). Probably issued from South Korean embassy in China.

  • I cried when she ran to her son

  • this is an amazing documentary...I got really really caught up and invested in these people's stories and I'm glad to see that they made it

  • I just hope that other refugees who wish to escape are not compromised by the BBC making this documentary, great documentary though and thank you for the post

  • ok...NOW COME TO AMERICA!

  • Where will people be without hope?

  • All the way to Thailand? I thought they could cross into Mongolia. Is the route to Ulan Bator no longer used by DPRK refugees?

  • Great happy ending for all the families!!

It really was truely a miracle for all these people

to make it out of these oppressive countries and

onto a better life and freedom!!

  • Awesome documentary.

  • Hands down to the film crew.. :D The world must know about this story so that one day we can help more and more people we can help to escape that brain washed and distorted place.

  • won't this documentary hinder future escapes from NKorea?

  • @kmhkwa thats my thought too :/

  • Wow

  • omg! i started crying when geumhee and her son say goodbye!!!

  • T______________________T

  • Watching this documentary makes me realize how insignificant my worries are. I cannot imagine being forced by circumstances to make decisions that, if anything goes wrong, will cost my life.

  • best documentary i have ever seen!

  • I really wich The UN should help but asusual it is only there as a SHOW-PIECE!

  • WOW! THE SON AND MOM REUNION IS VERY TOUCHING! this is my one of the several documentries i have seen so far about NORTH_KOREA...this is also well shot! AND KIM JONG--( YOU SUCK!)

  • @MrMohdrehankhan God's wrath will be upon him someday for ignorance and depriving his people, treating them as animals!

  • @nicegoodspeed1 you can clearly compare NORTHA korea and SOUTH Korean. their economy is way way advanced, According to me north should better focus on their people condition rather feeding their worls 7th largest army(as in north the first food right are always goes for army and thenafter the society, an this is the reason they only have meat only two time A YEAR!!)[whaaaaaatttt!! ....]...thanks for sharing your view!! :):):)

  • @MrMohdrehankhan I've watch the Korean Movie "Crossing" based on the defectors story and yes, the standard of living of South Korea is way way much ahead than North Korea. How I wish there's a mosquito that will bring a dreaded disease to the North Korean leader and he'll just die suffering.

  • Thanks for bad mouthing China in the end BBC! Jackass!

  • Wow that ending just reminds us on how the "journey" is just beginning for other North Koreans...

  • Mexicans can easily pass the north to south korea lol

  • its strange for me looking back because i have been to Seoul, i didnt realise it meant so much for people to arrive there as i so easily arrived there.

  • Couldn't we do something about this? While saying "we" I mean all powerful countries. If we can't just attack Kim Jong II and destroy his comunism, why won't we help the refugees in more "active way"?

  • Seeing this documentary makes you angry. Angry at jerks like Kim Jong Il who continues to live in wealth and splendor while his people suffer. Does Kim Jong Il really believe in communism and the whole Juche thing? OF COURSE NOT. He's the guy at the top living the good life while a few brainwashed folks in Pyongyang "worship" him as a god, just like his father. Such people disgust me. Living the good life at the expense of others. Criminals. That's what Kim Jong Il and the NA regime are.

  • i feel very sad for north koreans. fuck communism!

  • You Go girl!! :DD I'm so happy that she finally got to be with her son(: What she did was unbelievable.

  • Great documentary. That filmcrew had balls of steel.

  • I feel compelled to help!!!does anyone knows the name of this curch????

  • what? mei also plays guitar and sings? such talent

  • @miraeja

According to the book "Nothing to Envy", singing is apparently a very valued talent in North Korea, since there are so few radios, TVs and music players.

  • it's heartbreaking to hear people have such a heavy life, those gals are so strong and inspiring, they are so brave just fight for the basic human needs, freedom... live beautifully

  • it's heartbreaking to hear people have such a heavy life, those gals are so strong and inspiring, they are so brave just fight for the basic human needs, freedom... live beautfully

  • Guem Hee is Courageous!

  • Stupid BBC playing Chinese music in a documentary about Koreans.

  • Geum Hee story is immense.

  • ไม่มีเมืองไหนในโลก ที่จะมีน้ำใจเท่าคนไทยอีกแล้ว

  • i am hoping that one day north and south will be reconciling!

  • hope I can help you personally!---stay strong!from PHILIPPINES!

  • Good for Geum Hee whose son back in her arm, again. so... sad...
