  • *sigh* comments like this upset me but hearing the laughter afterwards made the comment even more painful. I would love to see the day when comments like this and others which are hurtful in in poor taste are no more. Mankind still has much to learn....having compassion & living from the heart with love would be a refreshing change, no? Much love to you Sarah!

  • The laughter at the joke is worst than the joke itself.I can only assume the person telling the joke was simply a "Joker"

  • I wrote in (cont'd):

Please do keep in mind the audience's loyalty to your programme, and evaluate the choice of anecdotes to which The Moth gives air time, to make sure that people are free from stereotypes and disrespect.

  • I wrote in:

"Respectfully, I have to reject the airing of material such as Alex Draper's "You Are A Great King" because of the slur he makes against transsexuals.

If Mr. Draper had used a racial slur he would have been booed off the stage. Airing Mr. Draper's words posts transsexual people in a negative light, dehumanizing them and marking them as dangerous, brain spoiling entities. The result of enabling these idesa can be violence, or worse."

  • What an overwhelming question, which is worse. I took "just a minute" to ponder it carefully. Being labeled a coefficient of cocaine use is another jab. If he had used a racial slur he would have been booed off the stage. Where do people get the idea that just because someone has the floor they deserve to be agreed with?

  • What I take away from the phrase is the speaker credits Las Vegas for corrupting his friend with drugs & hot T-Girls , or setting him free. The bad part is equating drugs to the Trans Community......)^B

  • The last line you said made me freeze and think for like 45 secs after the video ended.

  • Sarah: So poetic and profound you are. The "comment," as it obviously was not a real joke, is casually hurtful on so many levels. I wonder what I would have felt sitting in the audience of this performer; or what my mother might have felt had she been there; or what would my husband have felt were he there in the crowd? We TS women, post-op or not, are prejudged as a group by many of those who do not know a TS individual. I am not like anyone else. We are not a group of things, but individuals.

  • Yes, it was definitely more of a comment - a snippet out of a rambling story - then an actual joke. And somehow that casualness, the way it effortlessly slipped in as a description, almost makes it worst then a consciously joke written to specifically get laughs. And everything else you say is so so true.

Always nice to see you Gene. I hope you are well.

  • Thank you for this video...I think the "joke" (I put it in quotations because it is not funny) was abhorrant and demeaning.

Ps I just want you to know that I love you and your thoughts tremendously. I hope you are doing well

  • And thank you for the love and the thoughtfulness - it means a lot, especially coming from you.

I also got the tag and wanted to let you know it might take me a little while to do anything - but I will, promise. Just didn't want you to think I forgot or had ignored you.

    ♡ Sarah

  • Grow up it was just a joke, to get a laugh from his audience. being six years post op, I have and always will consider myself a woman. when I was young, I realized I had a birth defect and had it corrected. If a little joke like this has you upset, then maybe you should transition beyond being a transexual and be the woman that you are now. jokes like that, I don't laugh at and I don't listen to the person again. Just like I don't listen to the ones who cuss.

  • unbelievable...developed a taste?

  • I know.....I know.....Wonderful to see you Gail.

  • Hmmmm...recognizing our uniqueness is good...but reducing us to something to be used, like cocaine, to get a high...not good...sounds like typical white, heterosexual male attitude towards females in general...heck, towards everything...either fuck it or kill it...

  • Yeah, a lot of 'typical' stuff here. Which makes it even more sad - at least if it was rare it might shock, but knowing it is so common makes it harder.

  • So true...thanks for sharing your thoughts...

  • You are welcome. And thank you in return for sharing yours.

  • So true , and as ever , real.

  • Just wanted to let you know it is so wonderful that you there for me in this crazy journey. I appreciate that.

  • thanks for posting this!

  • Thank you!

  • I know what you mean.

I tell you what, let me shift those letters around a bit....

    Hug.

    Sarah

  • Hmmm, it won't load. Will have to try again tomorrow as it is late here. It is nice that you make videos again even if I am not allowed to watch it right now.

  • I hope it worked later on. In any case, always nice to know you have stopped by. Thanks!

  • Trans people are always the butt of the joke. It's straight up dehumanization.

Nice to see you again Sarah!

  • Beyond nice to see you! With summer comes the tractor, and with the tractor comes memories of you, and with those comes smiles.

  • at the risk of badly joking about the ignorant remark...

i must say i'm pretty sure we all "taste" the same ♥

so nice to see your beautiful face my dear! kiss to your forehead.

  • Miriam!! ♡!

I think my forehead is blushing.

  • i agree with Christina as usual.....if he had made light of someones race,or ethnicity, or faith, or politics.....he would have reaped the whirlwind.....someone or some group would have called him out to scold him, in the least......but , when you make light of someones inward definition of themselves .....its just a new flavor or a new recreational drug.......sad reality we are stuck with isnt it sis

  • The laughter is a sad refection on an unevolved public, the laughter condones public bigotry, why would they condone such an idiot and provide a platform for such vileness?

    .

Priceless video, this is why you were missed.

    Caroline x

  • Hi Caroline - It is SO sweet of you to say that. Thank you. I missed being here too....and will try to be present more. In the meantime, just nice to have you and so many stopping by.

  • it is wonderful to see you Sarah,dear.....i agree that was above and beyond the pale, most uncalled for......the joke is completely thoughtless , but the laughter, regardless whether it was audience laughter ,or a track, made it heartless.....wow , if we're a flavor then there must be cannibals around here?....last time i checked there was only one people flavor.....us(period).....if im one of the 32, then i choose to be a banana split with rocky road and pistachio ice cream, and an extra cherry

  • Wonderful to see you - and everyone, for that matter - as well.

As for ice cream flavors-----ooooooh, I like your choices, girl!

  • I'm sorry. No one deserves this. Sadly, it's also human nature to mock what we fear or misunderstand, isn't it?

  • I guess I hope its not, at least, our innate nature but some perversion of what ultimately we are meant to be and to become. But in the meantime, you are sadly right.....S

  • So true. Thank you for pointing this out. It's so common. It is the stuff my dark corners and nightmares are made of. There are nails in my doors and layers of curtains against that. There is a perversion here, but it is not my small fragile place shuttered hard against the assault. The perversion is the laughter, and the joke.

Thank you again, for your wisdom, eloquence, and strength!

  • And thank you for watching and taking the time to share your own thoughts. Be well....hugs, Sarah

  • i sarah

its horrible to feel that we will always be the punchline of a joke, i know this sent a chill down me as we can see it did you. society has yet to accept us as normal as i do feel some girls who exployte being transexual and making the rest of us girls feel like just a freak of nature.

its like saying not every one whose black is a drug dealer , not every muslim is a terrorist .....

  • .....so not every transexual is a prostitute or porn star though theres nothing truely wrong if you are but people put us in a class with them, cross dressers and drag queens that again there is nothing wrong with but it puts all us girls in one percific way to be looked at and fround upone.

i dose not matter on the individual, if you insult one you insult us all, and it hurts...

    hugZ!!!

    hugZ!!

  • Hi Bethany! I owe you a few notes on your videos, which I do watch. So apologies there. As for this....it almost hurts more because it is so seemingly casual and offhand within a seemingly sophisticated. liberal NY City audience.

Ah well....what's new, eh? We have each other and many allies, and we build from there.

  • loved this video. i hope u comtinue to make more :)

  • I will try....for now though, just glad to know you loved this one.

  • Sarah, seeing your face and hearing your voice once again is wonderful. I have not heard about the moth before and I will check them out. Both the joke and the laughter are hurtful--even if the laughter and joke were made by ignorant people. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, your feelings, and insights. You are wonderful.

    Peace and Love,

    Diana

  • Ah Diana.....SO good to know you stopped by. The Moth is generally interesting and I love the format of people telling stories. This was less a reflection on them, ultimately, then on the performer....just surprised given that we think of these type of alternative venues as 'liberal' and tolerant.

  • If he had substituted an ethnic or racial reference the outcry would have been severe. That leaves me to conclude that we exist in the minds of many as somewhere shy of human.

What a shame, for when I awoke this morning I was quite certain that I could think & feel just the same as anyone. I well remember having hopes & dreams that didn't include being someone's pornographic plaything. My bad.

An excellent observation on your part, Sarah.

    Hugs, Christina

  • Thanks Christina.....I fear we will have this battle for awhile - but at least, if it IS awhile, we have good company in each other.

  • The laughter sounded awfully half-hearted to me, kinda like a mercy chuckle so the so-called comedian wouldn't have to be embarrassed by his lameness.

  • Thanks Kindra. Yes the laughter felt forced and polite at best.

  • So good to see you again honey. :)

  • Likewise Winter. Hope you are well.

  • A careless performer with thoughtless words surrounded by mirthless laughter. What a shame. It was nice to see you again.

  • Lu! Its so great to hear from you after all this time -- I know, I know, like I've been the princess of presence! Not!

Always nice to see you as well. Thanks for stopping by.

  • I vibe what you're saying about not wanting to be likened to the flavor of the month at Ben and Jerrys, but I think what I find most irritating is that our flavor is thought to go hand in hand with coke, like we are just some kind of party side dish. If we are any flavor its filet mignon paired with the perfect merlot. Thoughtful and rich in flavor, with a bit of a kick due to life expereince. :-D

  • Well I go hand in hand with Diet Coke but that's something totally different.

  • I love your comment!! I think at the moment, if I was an ice cream flavor, I might be Rocky Road but damn I do like your thinking about being filet mignon with Merlot.

    ♡ Sarah

  • We don't even know what to say except that we love you. Thank you.

    L & L

  • Loving you right back.....and so glad we might see each other later in the year. Wohooo!

  • And it made no sense. If he had said pre it might have. Not that it would be any less offensive, but at least it would have made some sense.

  • Certainly true that being offensive and making sense can rarely exist together.

  • To be turthful with both the joke and luaghter was in very,Bad taste about transexauls but thats just thourghts about it.

  • Thanks Robert.

  • I wish I had words for this video but I don't...this I can say I am glad to hear from you again...I almost forgot how wonderful your videos were.

  • The words you ended up with were wonderful just as they are. Thank you.

  • This laugh is empty.Hope someday they'll have a good laugh from themselves. That would be healthy.Your face and voice brings piece at the end of this day.Thank YOU Sweet Sister!:)

  • Laughter is often born of discomfort and as a way to cover up hidden shame, as I think it is here, at some deep level. Always good to 'see' you and to know you are there.

  • I listened to that podcast. I hadn't heard of him. He's not as interesting as you are. Love.

  • Ida, it is SO good to have you around. Yes, he wasn't very interesting, was he? In fact I didn't get much further than the quote I gave.

I owe you more than a few notes on your poems, so forgive my silence. I always listen though....I'm the attentive quiet one in the back row.

  • So well put Sarah. As you put it ,when stripping a persons humanity becomes funny then a dangerous precedent has been set. These are serious words.

  • Thank you. I appreciate the support.

  • HEEEY! You're here! Fighting! Hahahahaha! I LOVE you! Ilove you i love you i love you!!! Welcome back, my personal Heroïn...and thank you so much for the other vid; it makes me laugh and cry; you are beautiful! Big hugs and kisses , and many thoughts and beautiful , sad , and happy visions of you, and give Allen a big kiss from me, Rickie.

  • How can one convey blushing red in the black and white tracery of words? Imagine the palest shades of flamingo mixed with sunset, then scented with the essence of cherries and roses, and finally ground into the finest blush for the cheeks. On second thought, no...that won't do. You will simply have to imagine it.

    I love you too sweetheart.

  • Wonderful video.

  • Wonderful comment.

  • So true. I love all ur videos. You are such a smart woman.

  • Oh, not so sure about that, being smart and all, but its wonderful that you love them.
