Target is a horrible to work at. You can do your job well and you will still be harrassed by team leaders. ETLs act like pedophiles and sexually harass employees. They work you live SLAVES, prevent you from getting healthcare, won't give you hours unless they are behind, cut your vacation...I can go on but DO NOT get a job without a Union. Unions protect you from people like Target who can FIRE YOU for no reason.
Target also gives certain promotions with lots of responsibility that don't offer really any raises. Haha..it is sooooo scared of unions!!! Just wait... they will come!!
Haha that scenrio shown on this video happens to me all the TIME! I'm a cashier and I'll be on my break, with my badge off, walking to the back room and someone will stop me asking me where something is and I rly don't know cuz I work in the front lanes as a cashier and haven't been there long. I wish a union would stop that shit lmfao. It's like an awkward pause when ppl ask me cuz I also don't get a walkie talkie as a cashier.

When I worked for Target a little over a year ago, they brought us all in to the break room at like 6:00AM to watch this video. The HR person asked us first if any of us had ever been part of a union at a previous job. Myself and one or two others raised our hands. HR made a couple of notes on his clipboard and started this film. My hours were cut the following week by 1/3 as were the other two people. I am glad I no longer work there. They are a greedy corp with no respect for its workers.
When people blame unions its like your blaming the middle class tax paying put food on the table working man for joining a group that bands together to provide himself with a livable wage and benefits
Kra unions didnt kill gm, union negotiate they can only getvwhat the company is willing to give. Im not a union worker and thought like you till i took a good look at upper management practices and the waste money they consume, also the goverments weak policey on low taxes of imports that come into this country buy low wage labor countries
This must be an older one. The newer anti-union video, in my opinion, is a lot more ridiculous and full of bs (but this one is pretty ridiculous too).
@00maharum00ma Not sure. I saw it at my orientation to Target a couple of months ago (yeah...I know...a girl's gotta eat, lol). I actually found this video looking for the one I saw, but I can't find it anywhere online. However, from what I recall, I can tell you that's there's lots more poor acting scenarios (such as employees going to secret union meetings while leaving out their non-union friends, supervisors not being allowed to help his team member stock a product on the shelves, and more).
@00maharum00ma There is a newer one with a fat black lady talking like she cares about you and various examples of how unions would hinder your work at Target, the first time I hear of it I was disgusted but yea it's much more highly disturbing and I'd never work or shop there cuz of it
For the last 40 years Unions have been nothing more than a joke. All they do is bleed businesses dry and eventually kill the bottom line and pink slips go flying. GM sound familiar? This video is chuck full of good info.
Kudos to Target. How is this propaganda? There are no government funds used or union dues used to brainwash anyone here, unlike the SEIU union thugs or our public school system. In America, we have free market capitalism. If you want socialism, go to Europe where many countries are going bankrupt because of cradle-to-grave socialism. And America is soon to follow if we don't get some fiscal sanity soon.
@pbm8264 This is propeganda because it is one-sided communication. A worker should be able to hear both sides and then decide whether (s)he wants to vote to unionize. Some workplaces need a union and others don''t. That should be up to the worker after hearing both sides.
I would really appreciate it if you could find a way to get your hands on it. People need to know the kind of horseshit workers get fed if they're going to understand how bosses force the results of union elections.
@00maharum00ma Oh, I already quit that crap factory. Got a union job (not the only reason I picked it over Target but it sure does help). The newer video is pretty much the same, but with a new actress in a red Target shirt.
I understand companies being anti-union. I really do. That's to be expected, after all. But what gets me is that if you work for Target, you MUST watch this. And if that doesn't define "propaganda" then nothing does.
@00maharum00ma He can get his hands on it, just grab the damn thing they don't even lock the DVD's up from what I hear and probably have a gazillion backups
Of every job/business/sector that needs and/or deserves a union is the retail sector....Look at your average retail employee: a teenager, a college student, a single mother, a low-income individual; All people who are desperate for money and are unfamiliar with their rights at work, and as such are used and abused by management. These are the people who need union representation. Not government employees, not hockey players, not actors.
The anti-union portion of this video literally was the most dishonest argument I have ever seen. Literally, I have never seen anyone present something in such a dishonest way. Does anyone disagree?
Your CEO made 2.7 million dollars last year, DOUBLE what he made the year before, even though Target's growth declined from 2009. That comes out to about 308 dollars an hour for him, which is about 31 times what you're making..
I don't want to claim that I can predict the terms any contract you might get if you go union, but I can guarantee you that you will at least get 12 bucks an hour, health benefits, and more vacation time.
@00maharum00ma Unions can't promise more benefits or a higher salary. Am I supposed to be shocked that the head of the company makes a lot more than me? no, I signed onto the team knowing what I was going to get, and I am enjoying my job.
Yes, unions can promise more benefits and a higher salary. That's kind of the point of forming one in the first place.
Look, if you like working more and making less so that someone who makes 31 times what you do can work less and make more, and you ENJOY it, I'm not going to try and figure out what strange shit is going on inside your head.
There is no "team." You are a wage slave, and you are always going to be a wage slave with that attitude.
@00maharum00ma Actually probably not. I would love to have a person like this working at my store. The "wage slaves" are those who look to unions to get them financial success in life rather than through hard work. Nothing in life is free and most associates view their job as just an end in itself and thus are not promoted. If, however, you do show even the slightest amount of drive you will find that promotion to management positions come naturally. Unions do nothing good for anybody.
A wage slave is someone who gives up ownership of themselves to a boss in exchange for wages. Despite the less than human status we are treated with, we are also the only people that provide goods and services. Managers are nothing more than capitalist commissars, and have no place in a free society.
let get Target Change into UFCW Union and Teamster Union for all Target right of away and right now please tell Target no Low Wage For Target Employee please tell Target give all Target Employee a Raise right of away and right now please after good Work Review from Tom P Noonan
Couple of major differences. Number one, unions can't force workers to watch pro-union videos. All new Target employees HAVE to watch this video. Number two, this video has a couple of major lies in it, namely that "a union is a business" which is inaccurate not only in principle but also by the stipulations of US law, and the assertion that unions will somehow cordon off parts of the store to employees, which is not at all how work rules function in retail.
Target CEO Robert Ulrich earned $23.1 million in 2005, according to Forbes. If you earn $23 million you don't need a union, but if you earn $7.65 an hour I would say you do.
Stupid libs. All you want is to get a union so you can sit around and not work and get paid. I work in management and the truth is you have to be firm with people to make them work for you. This video does a good job of putting just enough fear in the employee to get them to work hard and not form a union. When people in my store express feelings of being pro-labor, the solution is simple: they get fewer hours. If they are full time, guess what, they are now part time and thus unable to unionize
@fvgdfbdokd Well, your employees certainly wouldn't work harder after the sort of treatment you give them. Forcing people to quit is counterproductive, unethical, and a waste of your company's time and money. It doesn't help your customers when you purposely under-staff your store, either. You walk a fine line in implying that people who work for less than or equal to living wages should not have a collective voice at their workplace. A leader, you are not.
@fvgdfbdokd Wow, so you are a shit human being? Congratulations, you have just pointed out exactly why this video is a load of fear mongering crap pushed by greedy shitheads like yourself. This just proves why your employees need someone to represent them, you sick fucking waste of life.
@MichellePumpernickel get real. Work hard in life and success will follow. You will get out of life what you put into it and if you are poor it is because you choose to be.
@redmunkee pretty much. These people eat more than they produce. Its just like Greece trying to get out of paying back all the money the ECF and IMF lent them in good faith. Maybe Germany will teach those union loving lazy Greeks a lesson in discipline with the "old German ways" eh?
I've tolerated all of your other comments, as ignorant as they may be, but I'd appreciate it if you didn't use my video to spew hate speech. If you want to make those comments, fine, make a video of your own and post it up on YouTube, or just repost this Target video and explain why you agree with it. But please don't troll my video.
@00maharum00ma oh whatever you big socialist. Go ahead and censor me because my message is outside the lens of the Marxist prism you view the world through. Go Rick Scott, Mitt Romney, the IMF and Americans fighting for your freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan!
Being opposed to mass murder has nothing to do with being intolerant towards views that aren't socialist. And I'm not censoring you, as I made clear. If I wanted to do that, I'd have just removed the comments and blocked you, but I'm opposed to that on principle unless a commenter is a troll.
Now, to be honest, I don't think you believe any of what you're writing, but it doesn't matter what's inside your head, I'm concerned with what you're writing on my video.
f**k it im convinced im leaving unison, when do i get my red tee shirt and im never ever signing a petition again, however this video isn't telling the whole truth the woman says at 9.47 that "the card itself is not dangerous" WRONG it is, I was out shopping last Tuesday and was attacked by a union card, fortunately id just watched kung fu panda 2 & remembered a cool move to defend myself
...Why would a union wanna restrict its workers' ability to work by not allowing them to work in more than one department?? THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE! Wouldn't the unions WANT more freedom for their workers?
@cosbymon How in the hell do you get that out of this video? Does she not fit your preconceived notion of how a black woman should act or think? Isn't that essentially the definition of racism? Good job on exposing yourself to be a racist.
When I synced it on my computer, it was running perfectly. But when I uploaded it to YouTube, for some reason it went haywire. I don't know what went wrong.
Look at the likes and dislikes for this video. No one knows whether to like this video because it exposes Target as the evil organization it is, or dislike it because it's about Target, and Target is so evil.
Personally, I would like it, so more people can see it and be aware of the kind of stuff Target engages in, and perhaps change their minds about whether or not they want to shop there.
@00maharum00ma It's not like we're going to find a union-friendly store to shop at--unions are the death knell for management raping workers on wages. And that's what it is, too. All the top CEOs and management would have to do is sacrifice their huge bonuses to pay their employees well, and keep prices low. But let's not hold our breath to see how long that will take. Asphyxiation ain't fun.
@atoz7983 You could shop at: Albertsons Dierbergs Korger Meijer Rosauers Schnucks Safeway Supervalu Giant Stop & Shop P&C A&P Pathmark Shop Rite Most of their stores are union. That is, if you have to go to a massive retail store. There are alternatives to that, though.
It's funny how red no longer represents tyranny from the communist, but tyranny from the republicans. At one time it represented tyranny from the crown of England. This video is far from true in many states the workers rights laws have been destroyed. It will take years of organized labor to bring back the laws that once protected American workers. It has got to a point in Texas that if you get hurt on the job they toss you out, and say it's all your fault! My mom was life flighted from her job
The union has become what they were formed to fight against, they lie to the membership and steal from them, they intimidate them and harass any member who disagrees with the leadership. The International turns a blind eye to this corruption. When our union obtained an agency shop, the initiation fee went from $10.00 to $300.00, anytime the union imposes an assessment no matter how high or what the reason is, the members have to pay or get fired.
"The company suffers because the most qualified person doesn't necessarily get the job."
Who actually believes this? I've never worked at a place that has a union (Well, there are some SEIU workers at my current job, but my dept. voted against unionizing a couple of years before I was hired.), but I've also never worked in a place where the most qualified people get the best jobs. I've never known anyone to. The only jobs where true meritocracies exist belong to scientists and athletes.
This is why I don't work at Target. My boyfriend pays his tuition bills by working at a unionized grocery store and guess what? They have MUCH better produce and customer service than our local Super Target. And they actually pay a living wage.
While I support unions I am a student of economics. In response to a union and the subsequent benefits they bring target would restrict hiring and even fire some employees to compensate.
@TheEmpowered787 The union has become what they were formed to fight against, they lie to the membership and steal from them, they intimidate them and harass any member who disagrees with the leadership. The International turns a blind eye to this corruption.
There's been no evidence brought forward to suggest that. Target is extremely profitable, and actually experiencing a period of growth. There's no conceivable way that unionism would compel them to put that growth on hold in order to pay for what will probably amount to rather meager benefits.
@moormagic1 The union has become what they were formed to fight against, they lie to the membership and steal from them, they intimidate them and harass any member who disagrees with the leadership. The International turns a blind eye to this corruption.
Friedman based all of his arguments in fantastical theory. If you want to learn about the REALITY of the minimum wage, instead of the ramblings of a debunked idealist, please check out:
"Minimum Wages and Employment: A Case Study of the
Fast-Food Industry in New Jersey and Pennsylvania"
By David Card and Alan Krueger.
The only problem with the minimum wage is that it isn't a living wage.
Everytime I worked in retail, if a customer had a question outside my department, I would tell them "This sin't my section." And I never worked a union job. Haha.
@PampersPete Rofl DiaperBoy, only helpless Republicans need to live with their mothers in their 30s and 40s and bash unions on the Internet to make them feel feel better about their pathetic dependent lives. So how's mommy's basement been treating you lately? I'm sure her home based business is still keeping you well sheltered, so you can do nothing all day every day! :D
@Adeon55 Care to discuss your pathetic Chargeless? I know I'd love to discuss my Packers winning the Superbowl. In fact, if I go back to my previous videos, I could find numerous comments from you saying they'll never win the Superbowl again. Keep talkin' that shit, Adeon55...you're the only one that gives a fuck. It's also pretty funny that you call me a Republican. I'm neither Reublican nor Democrat.
@PampersPete So you're just one of those "independent" mid-life crisis AM radio listeners who hates Democrats and unions, and lives in his mommy's basement, gotcha. :)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
For all those giving Target so much grief, I can't understand why you work there? If it's so awful then you must be stupid to remain employed there. Why don't you take your great skills and abilities and change careers to a more desirable place? If you intend to remain there for the rest of your working life then I'd suggest you make an effort to move up the ladder instead of remaining in the lowest position forever.
Besides, somebody has to work at Target. There's a demand for that service. And if people are providing a service customers want, doesn't that entitle them to the revenues from that service?
You seem to be living in a bit of a fantasy world where people get to do what they want for a living.
@00maharum00ma I worked two jobs and went to school so I could have a good job in an office instead of doing unskilled grunt work all my life. If you don't do anything to improve your lot then yeah, you have to take what you can. Why is it then my responsibility to pay higher prices so you can sit on your ass and force your employer into an uncompetitive situation? The union in my plant forces us to pay the useless employees and yet the best get the same money. How is that just for them?
Joining a union IS doing something to improve your lot. And why do you simply assume that Target will have higher prices if they go union? They made 2.9 billion dollars last year, even with the massive drop in retail sales caused by the recession. Seems like they could do a lot better for their workers without raising prices.
As far as your example goes, I believe that workers should decide how they are compensated, and those apparent flaws are a product of the wage system.
Look, every corporation is fundamentally the same. They will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to maximize profits and employer hegemony. Unions are a threat to that, so major corporations in retail that desperately need unions but have been able to avoid them for an unacceptably long period of time will react aggressively to any threat of worker organization.
Don't expect corporations to do the right thing. You will always be disappointed.
They wouldnt want you to have strength in numbers.
And Right to Work States really mean, The Right to work for Less.
They dont want to pay you skilled labor wages, as they do around the world with your skill level. they want you to think you have no choice but to take less money and like it.
Yes. They should defiantly have unions so when they go bankrupt , you union people can say with pride that you got them there. Or maybe they can just demand that the taxpayers bail them out. Unions are for unintelligent bottom feeders that need someone to do their thinking and negotiating for them. Losers.
@pwesson Then why would you want to work there? I don't understand why people seek employment with such and awful place. If there are so many better alternatives for you then what are you doing at Target?
Target's idea of "quickly adapting" is slashing hours for employees every time a goal isn't met. They slashed my wife's full time hours to 15 hours a week when she worked there. Couldn't make rent, but it was just enough not to get unemployment. That is the kind of company Target is.
They should show that membership graph with one that shows real wages and income disparity so people could see the decline of real wages and the concentration of wealth into the hands of the oligarchy.
Don't fool yourself Target does not have the same interests as employees or even for that matter their customers.
If you have ever worked at target you would want a union, of course target is agenst it becuse it royaly fucks there underhanded hireing practices keeping non-management employies below 10 hours a week (to make sure you are not eligable for company benafits) and understaffing the store, and not to mention threating there team members (targets code word for slave labor) like shit.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with this so called "propaganda video"
I wish someone had shown me something like this 15 years ago when I was a highschool kid working as a cleaning person that was being taken over by SEIU.
I was forced to join the union if I wanted to keep my job, I was forced to pay union dues, against my will. The money was deducted from my check before I even got it, I wondered at the time how this was even legal in America.
What's the problem? They didn't say anything that I don't know to be true from first hand experience. Target isn't exactly a Chinese coal mine. Why screw up a nice place and a profitable company with backward union work rules?
That is not the end of the story. Companies hate unions because they want 100%power over their wage slaves. Oops! I meant employees. Capitalism needs to be blunted by collective bargaining that provides common sense protections and fair wages/benefits for workers. And it takes two sides to bargain a contract. This video represents corporate greed and propaganda at its worst.
Did you not hear anything in the video, you actually think its OK to have money taken out of your check against your will? How can you defend that? Everything they said in that video was spot on, and it was all very disturbing. Can you counter each point or at least a few points they made and tell us how the Unions are not guilty of exactly what this video says?
@olympicnut Companies have an interest in keeping good employees since it's so easy for them jump to a new company. So there are two sides: the company and the employee. Thugs aren't needed anymore.
Unions may have had a role years ago when conditions were poor and people wanted to have a career with a particular company, but these days, since there are no more pensions, people just shop around for an employer that meets their needs. Unions are passé. End of story.
I'm Not Sure About Target, But I Used To Work For Walmart.
I Was Told I Could Not File A Written Complaint Because Of The Open Door Policy.
Target Has One Too Apparently...
So Here's My Question:
Have Any Target Employee's (Current or Former) Had This Problem?

I was scheduled 2 to 10pm, had to stay later until 2am to get the store faced and fronted.
Had to print out Maryland labor laws and bring hell to leave after my 8 hours were up.
Then I got fired for leaving at 10. When my schedule said I was off the clock.
Had no one to complain to. F*** Target.

@pbm8264 This is propeganda because it is one-sided communication. A worker should be able to hear both sides and then decide whether (s)he wants to vote to unionize. Some workplaces need a union and others don''t. That should be up to the worker after hearing both sides.

Oh, and you'll all be happy to know that I got to watch a brand new anti-union video when I started there last month.
mbrooks415 7 months ago 2
@mbrooks415
I would really appreciate it if you could find a way to get your hands on it. People need to know the kind of horseshit workers get fed if they're going to understand how bosses force the results of union elections.
00maharum00ma 7 months ago
@00maharum00ma Oh, I already quit that crap factory. Got a union job (not the only reason I picked it over Target but it sure does help). The newer video is pretty much the same, but with a new actress in a red Target shirt.
I understand companies being anti-union. I really do. That's to be expected, after all. But what gets me is that if you work for Target, you MUST watch this. And if that doesn't define "propaganda" then nothing does.

RiotRanger 8 months ago
@RiotRanger
00maharum00ma 8 months ago 2
@00maharum00ma Actually probably not. I would love to have a person like this working at my store. The "wage slaves" are those who look to unions to get them financial success in life rather than through hard work. Nothing in life is free and most associates view their job as just an end in itself and thus are not promoted. If, however, you do show even the slightest amount of drive you will find that promotion to management positions come naturally. Unions do nothing good for anybody.
fvgdfbdokd 7 months ago
@fvgdfbdokd
A wage slave is someone who gives up ownership of themselves to a boss in exchange for wages. Despite the less than human status we are treated with, we are also the only people that provide goods and services. Managers are nothing more than capitalist commissars, and have no place in a free society.

outfile 7 months ago
@outfile

If they are full time, guess what, they are now part time and thus unable to unionize
fvgdfbdokd 8 months ago
@fvgdfbdokd Well, your employees certainly wouldn't work harder after the sort of treatment you give them. Forcing people to quit is counterproductive, unethical, and a waste of your company's time and money. It doesn't help your customers when you purposely under-staff your store, either. You walk a fine line in implying that people who work for less than or equal to living wages should not have a collective voice at their workplace. A leader, you are not.

@00maharum00ma It's not like we're going to find a union-friendly store to shop at--unions are the death knell for management raping workers on wages. And that's what it is, too.

There's been no evidence brought forward to suggest that. Target is extremely profitable, and actually experiencing a period of growth. There's no conceivable way that unionism would compel them to put that growth on hold in order to pay for what will probably amount to rather meager benefits.

Besides, somebody has to work at Target. There's a demand for that service. And if people are providing a service customers want, doesn't that entitle them to the revenues from that service?
You seem to be living in a bit of a fantasy world where people get to do what they want for a living.
00maharum00ma 8 months ago 16
@00maharum00ma I worked two jobs and went to school so I could have a good job in an office instead of doing unskilled grunt work all my life. If you don't do anything to improve your lot then yeah, you have to take what you can. Why is it then my responsibility to pay higher prices so you can sit on your ass and force your employer into an uncompetitive situation? The union in my plant forces us to pay the useless employees and yet the best get the same money. How is that just for them?
mduncan81 8 months ago
@mduncan81

Target's idea of "quickly adapting" is slashing hours for employees every time a goal isn't met. They slashed my wife's full time hours to 15 hours a week when she worked there. Couldn't make rent, but it was just enough not to get unemployment. That is the kind of company Target is.

I wish someone had shown me something like this 15 years ago when I was a highschool kid working as a cleaning person that was being taken over by SEIU.
I was forced to join the union if I wanted to keep my job, I was forced to pay union dues, against my will. The money was deducted from my check before I even got it, I wondered at the time how this was even legal in America.

mduncan81 8 months ago
That is not the end of the story. Companies hate unions because they want 100%power over their wage slaves. Oops! I meant employees. Capitalism needs to be blunted by collective bargaining that provides common sense protections and fair wages/benefits for workers. And it takes two sides to bargain a contract.
