wanna know a true story....emerson drive played in my town....i was walkin down the street wasted ...walked into the tour bus....asked.. you guys famous...they said ...yea we are on (some country station)....i said havent heard of ya before....they said do you listen to country ...i say not really but i love merle haggard....then i say you suck and keep walkin home...to this day i never heard any emerson drive song...but i met them...funny to me
the "Hag" and a handful of others set the standard and let's face it, nowadays for the most part, it's just too high. It's the same with the rock world
I'm a 24 year old man. I used to listen to this song every saturday with my Dad on the way to meet up with my Grandpa (RIP) every saturday for breakfast before we'd bust ass working on a house we were flipping. My dad wasn't a drunk at the time, and I was only 10, and at the time, I didn't really truly understand the song. Broke up with the love of my life recently, turned to alcohol, and now... Now I really understand what Merle Haggard was talking about. Funny how shit works.
just because youre young doesnt mean that youre a little punk that cant enjoy real music. ive been listening to this as long as i care to remember and i wouldnt have it any other way.
Well I am so lucky because I have many tapes of my brother who played lead back in the early 60's for Merle! I have some practice tapes that I treasure!! My brother is in heaven now but sure havin one heck of jam session up there I bet!!
I couldn't agree with you more about today's country music. As George Strait and Alan Jackson (a couple of the only true country music artist left on the airways) sing, "They committed murder on music row." I miss hearing the Hagg , so I try to keep tuned into classic country whenever possible and once in a while I get to hear some of my favorites.
@MrChosen88 Surley you dont expect Taylor Swift singing about bottles? After all her music is marketed for young population. I would say her general audience is maximum 16 years old. But then again i could be wrong but thats my impresion.
@MrChosen88 funny part about it is that when this crowd grows old , and there grands... listening to there music . they going to same the same shit you posted. lol!
@MrChosen88 I grew up listening to all the oldies, this is what my parents raised me on. Johnny, Conway, Merle, Hank SR & JR..my girls who are 9 & 5 are now growing up with it and they love it. We do enjoy some of the "new" music but it don't hold a candle to any of the greats!
@MrChosen88 whats wrong with rascal flats? they arent nearly as good as old merle here but they have their songs...gotta appreciate some of the other country artists! :)
i caint get that bitch of a mother who gave birth to me....she never their....at thing gonna burn for her sorrrow and her everyway......thank you haggard.....im not hurting ....just laughing at her .........no letters no phone call no coming over to say hey baby i love you.....to see her grandkids....want she missing on is something wonderful......
I agree. I blame Reba and Garth. Although they started with traditional country styles. Once they hit the mainstream scene; their lame attempts to whine a country tune, fell apart. All of Nashville followed suit. Country went rock, Rock went nowhere and real music got lost in the shuffle. I live in southern Colorado and none of the true country artists get any airplay. Thanks corporate Nashville. You suck. But if you want to hear some good old fashioned country listen to Hayes Carl.
Long summer nights and songs such as this one playing on the A.M. Radio. If you are a country boy or woman from years back, you love these songs, and singers.
Jones... like Jennings, Kristofferson, Cash, Nelson and a few more... has a great masculine voices with lots of individual character.... contrary to the sissy voices of most of the younger generation.

I have lived the Highway man's life for too many years now .
I remember when Waylon and Willy was the way to live .
We need new acts that can share how most folks feel .
The old boys and girls are leaving us daily .
Don't real feelings even happen today ?
Heck most of these songs got many GIs thru the Nam and recent Wars .
I don't think heartbreak is over . It happens daily .
Just my opium .
