  • This video quality is totally not metal.

  • @FlipTheDish This must have been copied from the original. The original was produced professionally, most liekly. Nobody associated with a successful band like Testament would result to using an unregistered version of video recording software. The thing to pay attention to is the lesson, though. Eric's great techniques are what's important. Let's focus on them!

  • Testament is better than Anthrax and Megadeth, and anything recent from Metallica isn't worth bandwidth to illegally download. Slayer is just Slayer.

  • @ContractKiller84 Testament is NOT better than Megadeth i'm sorry

  • @RSCao Agreed.

They are waaay fucking better than Metallica (<--- they SUCK serious ASS) and Slayer though.

  • Epic fucking Video Quality!!!!

  • @Marcus666Sund misleading video comment! ^^^^

  • you guys sound so dumb.............

the big 4 are the bands that started the thrash movement, it is not about the best 4 bands of thrash, despite metallica and slayer are easily the best

  • i want the tab

  • Great guitar player.I had almost that same guitar and sold it and went back to Washburn and it's happiness now.

  • According to wiki. Peterson uses Emg 81/85, Dimarzio Super Distortion, Seymour Duncan jb,jazz,'59model. I thought he used a Duncan Distortion.

  • @PrsFenderJackson1980 he does i seen an interview with him and he said that. he uses them on his new signature Dean guitar

  • helps me out o alot !

  • I fucking love this video. EP is a badass guitarist.

  • @wwdhhhh Yep

  • @wwdhhhh your just a shit talking bitch if it wasn't for "cheep metal" there would be no "good metal" so stick that shit in your ass!

  • @wwdhhhh

if it werent for metallica..bands like testament wouldnt exist u fucking moron

  • @lithium687 they are from the same area and from the same time. metallica was just lucky enough to release their first records earlier.

  • @Metalwurst666

yes..im aware they are from the same area...but who the fuck u think was an inspiration to testament?! METALLICA....they have said it before....even slayer was! they started out as a fucking metallica cover band!

  • @lithium687 ...even testament begin doing metallica covers that doesnt mean testament sucks or that metallica is the best band ever, that´s all subjective, im so glad testament isn´t metallica, they got the same level or even same quality...metallica got it to the mainstream and they fall as a rock (remember saint anger, load, re-load) they got their hair done trying to convence people they got a new style and new stuff to show up, but they´re living from their first records.

  • @niugsoggoth

when did i ever say testament sucked? i love testament....and dont give me that "they cut their hair" bullshit...WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT THEIR HAIR! ITS HAIR! and just because they went mainstream...it doesnt mean they werent metal...metallica is in its own category anyway....because they have the ability and talent to write any kind of song...that is what seperates them from bands like slayer, megadeth, testament, ect...they can pull anything off and make it sound great

  • @lithium687 ...wrong...!!!! the only difference between metallica and the other bands you quote is that metallica fans are gay, lame or stupid teens that think metallica is bad-ass.... any Slayer fan can kick your ass back to junior high school.....

  • @niugsoggoth

real intelligent comment you fucking idiot...do you even hear yourself when you speak? you're a fucking loser imbecile..get an education and please stop talking about metal..cause you clearly dont have a clue what you're talking about...dont even respond to this cause im not replying...cant waste my time with complete idiots like you

  • @wwdhhhh your a fag who has no taste metallica are the best fukin heavy band going

  • @heavymetalforever996 metallica are kittens that diserve nothing more then for their entrails to be split open and devoured

  • @Birdbomb88 Your messed up man. Nobody says stuff like that plus metallica is beast.

  • @heavymetalforever996 AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!

Metallica aren't even metal anymore. Shouldn't you be in school right now, little boy?

  • @DirtyFuckingStudent if metallica is no longer metal then who is? justin bieber perhaps? u idiot.

  • @inis99999 Metallica hasn't been metal since AFJA. Go look for better bands, prefferably ones that aren't completely mainstream.

  • @heavymetalforever996 metallica real all, even the bands that r technically better then them, still fail to right songs as original and wicked as metallica, the first five metallica albums all had as much brilliant songs on each one as another bands greatest hits would

  • @deadslutbluewater I am sick and tired of people "trying" to make this point. Metallica are old has beens that ARE NOT METAL ANYMORE! The only reason they still sell albums and merch is because of albums hey put out over 20 years ago. Ur comment says that same point. Just because you made good albums more then 20 years ago, doesn't mean you are relavent now. Their last good METAL album was AJFA. They know they are riding their cotails of 20 years ago, and that they can't write anything good now.

  • @MrShredtilldead dont even no what ur talking about, i never mentioned nething about that, i was comparing the highest point to other bands highest points, didnt imply nething u implied. so goodluck in life, if u want me , u can reach me at ur mums place.

  • @MrShredtilldead Many also noticed, that D. Mustaine was the best song writes of metallica era and after his leaving, Metallica still used his good ideas. Cannot say if it is true, but todays music cannot be compared with old stuff. I personally dislike that.

  • @wwdhhhh are you fucking kidding? they paved the way for so many bands you fucking chode ass

  • mettalica sells but who's buyin?

(besides gey people who like soft rock)

  • @69bakedskater 80's metallica rules all... aside from that im good off m

  • @69bakedskater ....lol...amen.

  • @OldManPoopOrgy are you kidding me i would chose anthrax they havent made good music since the 80s.

  • i would switch megadeth with testament in the great 4

  • You know why I love Testament so Much? They have Peterson's heavy style, and Skolnick's musicality =)

  • he looks a little like kyle gass, with long hair

  • 1:07 The Persecuted Won't Forget. \m/

  • Ok. I will start getting better at playing now that I have two Eric Peterson lessons. He is awesome and I love his Dean ML guitar. I'm getting me a 79 Series MLF guitar sometime.

  • hell yeah we just need friedman and menza back and megadeth will be comeplete

  • To me, the big four is Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Testament! I do like Anthrax but they aint got nothing on Testament.

  • Comment removed

  • THE BIG 4: SLAYER, SODOM, KRATOR, AND have to think about that one but it's not megadeth nor metalica

  • hahahaha :D... sodom and kreator in the big four of the bay aera thrashers.. two bands from germany.. i never heard this before :D

  • @trashheard17 no destruction?

  • @trashheard17 sodom and kreator are two of the big three along with destruction of the german thrash metal scene

  • @trashheard17 i don't see where the word BAY ARE is and i put those bans because like i said metallica sucks and so does megadeth

  • i have one word for you my friend

    pantera

and megadeth and metallica are awesome old school metal bands atleast... the older songs from metalica

  • @Edor12345 megadeth and metallica can go to heaven(bad place i'd rather go to hell) they're fuking sell outs even the lead singer of metallica said it..... hahahah... and pantera is a ghetto version of thrash metal...Overkill kicks all their asses

  • @gbortuhno have you even listened to megadeth lately? i just saw them on the rust in peace 20th anniversary tour and they are without a doubt one THE BEST of the big 4 at this point. They're the tightest band i've ever seen play live. that and their lineup is sick with chris broderick and david ellefson back. Dave Mustaine for president!

  • @Edor12345 you can't rely just on old songs...and slayer had great songs and keep on making great songs....and a lot of death metal and black metal artists have gotten inspiration from slayer not fucking metallica or megadeth--- SLAYER fucking RULES

  • @gbortuhno dude sodom kreator and destruction are the big three thrash bands of GERMANY not BAY AREA smart one

  • Isn't that The Persecuted Won't Forget chorus riff?

  • BLACK METAL...

    Yehhhh if you say so

  • @LordArithal If you play the guitar you would understand what he says. The chord he plays are used in all black metal bands to get the evil heavy sound. Terser in swedish

  • @vincentXXX666

i was hoping i wasnt the only one who knew that

  • sucks

  • Alex's vid coming out is Jazz and Eric's is black Metal. No Thrash sadly.

  • this band was so close to being in the big 4

  • In my book it's the 4th band in the Big 4.. Metallica's Thrash days are long gone..

  • @PuPPeTlad to me there is a big 5

  • Pantera should have been in the big four...

  • why, they should be the last band of the eighties to be in the big four, first off they were originally a glam metal band, and they were groove metal.....

  • Slayer and MegaDeath were the only bands that made it out of the big four.

  • It's Megadeth, dude! XD

  • @PuPPeTlad they should be they started in 1983 but they didnt oficialy release anything till 1986

  • @PuPPeTlad So was Anvil.

  • @PuPPeTlad but they weren't exactly the first wave of thrash metal

  • @PuPPeTlad

they should be in place of Anthrax...

  • @hearshotkid91 no, anthrax is vital in the big 4, and now i think of it, testament is much too generic and unorigional to be in the big 4...

every band in the big 4 has a unique style, slayer - heavy fast, metallica - melodic fast catchy, anthrax - new york hardcore influences, megadeth - complexity

    testament - generic boring riffs

  • @PuPPeTlad Fag

  • @PuPPeTlad are you fucked?!?!?! have you heard the legacy ?

  • @fallen757 of course i have.... im just saying, out of the most popular thrash bands, testament is the most generic...

  • @PuPPeTlad they started late

  • @PuPPeTlad this band is bigger than them so it doesnt really add up. :P (except megadeth, they aint bigger then megadeth..)

  • @PuPPeTlad They completely replace Anthrax in my book.

  • @PuPPeTlad On my list this is the 4th band in the big 4, the only reason they never get recognition is because they not once, not in any of their songs went mainstream, so they lack publicity. >.>

  • @PuPPeTlad I am glad that they aren't because they aren't going to complete shit.

  • @PuPPeTlad they could rename it to big 5

  • @PuPPeTlad along with Exodus

  • i think this band should be big four, not slayer

  • @PuPPeTlad They have more right to be in there then most of the big four...I say either drop Metallica or Anthrax, and put in Testament!

  • @PuPPeTlad they deserve anthrax's spot to be honest

  • @PuPPeTlad they are better than Exodus or Antrax

  • @PuPPeTlad Yes, Exodus too! (just listen to their last album)

  • @PuPPeTlad they should replace Anthrax. They are good but not as good as Testament

  • @PuPPeTlad which bands are in the big 4?

  • @PuPPeTlad they were in canadas version of the big 4 (canadian carnage tour) they replaced anthrax

  • @PuPPeTlad it should be in there

  • im used to playing punk songs on guitar which are suuuuper easy and I've been more inspired to play black metal type of stuff but can't quite grasp exactly how to. can anyone help?

  • You mean how to get inspiration or how to play?

  • @varulv234 not to sound dumb, but yeah how to play it.

  • You don't sound dumb at all, it's fine. Well, i'd say you need a lot of tremolo picking practice and you need to keep it up to speed for longer periods of time, since most Black Metal bands use a lot of tremolo picking, you also need different types of chords, for example if your first finger is a t the fifth fret, and your third finger is at the seventh fret, which is a power-chord, try for example moving your third finger to the sixth fret instead, which will make a bit unusual sounding chord.

  • Just experiment with different finger positions , another example would be as follows:

Place your first finger at the 5th fret of the A-string and your 3rd finger at the 7th fret of the D-string, and reverse it, so you now have your first finger at the 5th fret of the D-string and your 3rd finger at the 7th fret of the A-string. Try just moving that around. You can also take a chord, with lots of gain and play the notes freely, without stopping them, many Black Metal bands do that.

  • It would also be a good idea to use your bridge pick-up, which gives a more trebly edge kinda feel to your tone.

    Try this:

    Treble: 8-9

    Mids: 5.6

    Bass: 5-6

    Gain: Around 8-9

But don't limit yourself to that, play around with it a little to make the tone you like. Try listening to bands like Emperor, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum and Taake for inspiration.

  • @faggotmutilator. He was (is?) in a black metal band called Dragonlord as a side project to Testament.

  • Dragonlord? Is that kind of like that crazy hard metal band Dragonforce?? no just kidding.

  • dragonforce XD dude that band is a joke and not to mention full of themselves haha

  • i partied with chuck billy in sacramento at the boardwalk. these guys slay. nice dean guitar also eric

  • rhythmic riffs = thrash riff. plus eric is in testament. they're not black metal.

  • @faggotmutilator666 he is also in Dragonlord =]

  • @faggotmutilator666 but eric is in a black metal band called dragonlord too man...

  • sweet

  • what do you say? yes itz black metal, thrash is very different!!! expecially 80s!!!

  • i ts not black its thrash

  • @Lunallena123456 no it isnt>>?

  • Ikke vær det, lol, jeg er stolt av å være norsk ! :D

  • can anyone tab this please?^^

  • LOL

  • He is right, those minor diads are very black metal. Though Black metal would tend to either trem pick them, or pick them out individually acoustic style. It gives the chords a eerie cacophony to them. Listen to Anthems-era Emperor, or pre-blizzard beast Immortal

  • It Is F*%king in Eb !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • oh noes! your guitar doesn't do different tunings? lol.

  • hes playin in d standard, all the strings down a tone

  • ERIC RULES!

yes kids..most all real metal is NOT played in droped tuning!

  • true very true. drop d tunings the easy way out of things. Eric=thrash legend

  • Lamb of God????

  • but drop d is fun! lol

  • so is drop c

  • So is Drop A =)

  • drop F#?

  • testament aint fuckin black metal WTF?

  • Lol yeah, they're thrash.

  • he has a black metal band called Dragonlord. But I don't think they're really black metal.

  • No they are 80s thrash.

  • He's just talking about different aestethics of sound in different genre of metal...wich collide with different way to play guitar :)

  • It is not a dropped C, D or etc tunning. You can see that in the way he takes power chords. Usualy Testament use tuning where all strings are tuned down half step.

  • do i need drop d tuning

  • riff at 1:30 its sick... pure black metal shit

  • both those riffs are from "the persecuted won't forget" off their new album

  • well walkwithme1nhell todays metal is tuned in droped C,but thats old skool metal so probbably hes tuned into droped D

  • what are you talking about? its in standard e look at how he plays chords.

  • standard D

  • no it's Eb

  • lamb of god are drop D

  • TestAmenT!!!!

  • souls of black my fav by testament...

  • testament is thrash lol noob

  • anyone know what tunning eric is in? is it standard? or is it dropped a half step or one full step?

  • doen to drop d i think dude

  • hahaha dude you are a fucking posser, your "style" is "metal"wich i dont know wich metal you refer cuz you have paramore like favorite video,

    stupid possers..

  • i hate when people dont know there metal too.

  • testament.. is the shit....

  • Comment removed

  • How can he learn other people to play Black Metal, if he have no idea how to do it ?

  • black metal riffs suck dick... peterson kills like every balck metal riff... his stuff in testament is way better than shitty black metal

  • never really been a fan of those inverted power chords but this sounds fucking badass.

  • Sounds just like Testament.

  • Yeah, It sounds like Testament, but he needs Alex to play one of the notes in the inverted chords while he plays the others. And yoi get that harmonized sound.

  • i know it sounds like testament. jus saying im not a fan of those inverted pwerchords but eric does em right instead of those cheeesy power metal or black metal ways of playing em. ya know picking the fuck outta it an stff

  • Also lead guitar always have been more popular at least u be Rhythm guitar and vocals.

  • How he plays that "european" black metal riff?? I just didn't figured it out...

  • He's adding the minor or major third rather than the fifth. That's all you need to know to learn that riff.

  • Eric is Testament's Rhythm Player,he can play solos also but if you employ someone they have to work and Alex task is doing solos,Alex is more popular than Eric cause of his personality and afiliations, only newbies and posers don't give Eric the respect he deserves, bunch of fools...

  • Dude, I used to be one of those retards who didn't respect the rythm guitar player, thought the lead was the only one a band really needed. Then my band told me I couldn't solo worth crap but the riffs I was writing were sick and they didn't wanna get rid of me because they didn't wanna lose the riffs too. Kinda changed my perspective.

  • you guys are all wrong they are both great, eriic its a bit more rythm than alex but alex have those balls to the walls solos,,,but they are both good guitar player eric do some great solos on the formation of dammation the new album, that in my opinion its the best album!.....testament fuckiing rocks

  • everyone talks about alex skolnick in testament eric is the unsung guitar hero of testament in my opinion

  • skolnick was and is better, all the stuff people remember testament for was played by him ... practice what you preach, the legacy, new order etc

  • i know but eric peterson rarely gets a mention when people talk about testament

  • yeah, i'm not knocking him but he's a rhythm guitarist, and the fact that testament doesn't have any songs that don't involve skolnick shredding all over the song means the guy playing the rhythm track in the background doesn't get much attention.

  • actually he plays one of the solos in more than meets the eye.

  • agreed, for me pratice what you preach is the best album

  • NOT true, Eric is the main songwriter of the band, most of the riffs are written by him, and as he said in an interview'' Alex takes the riffs and turn it more melodic or adds soem stuff to it''

  • well i wasn't talking about who wrote the riffs, i was talking about who played them. as i said i'm not disparaging the guy, i'm just saying that unless he is some kind of flamboyant, crazy-looking-and-acting guy like Scott Ian, he's not going to be noticed very often because he plays a rhythm guitar.

  • great

one of the best rythm gitarists in the world.

did I say "one of"? hee's defenitely the best!

could anyone help me with tabbing out one chord of figure 5?

is it like (for example --5533 or is it something else?

    thanks in advance...

  • i wish he was as good as jon schaffer. a lot of people don't credit him as much as he should get.

  • I believe Eric is way under-appreciated. Thanks Eric!

  • Whats the name of his guitar? It's fucking awesome...

  • Its a dean model. Could be a dimebag one but im not sure

  • Hey thanks dude, I saw him using another guitar in a video with the same bridgwork, figured I could get a brand name. And BTW, is this a DVD or something I can buy?
