I loved the song - I worked for Nortel from 1984 to 2001, working mostly on the SL-100 and the DMS 250. Spent three years installing the SL-100's. After I left in 2001, sub back to NORTEL until 2009 when I got tired of traveling. I think the DMS family of switches were the back bone, the optical and the Passport Switches here a great supporter for the DMS. Yes, I took all of my money and ran before - The Day NORTEL Died
After I was the Last of 1500 people who got Laid OFF from Ann Arbor, Raleigh and me in Richardson Texas. I prayed for the DAY it would Happen to the Entire Fvvckin Gahd Dahm COMPANY and Laughed my ass off when it did. You canadian Misfots Fvvcked up more shit we were making progress on at Palisades west of the New MegaPlex City you jackoffs so arrogantly built and forefeited later. So at this point FUCK you and FUCK everybody too whose ever worked at such a JOKE of a COMPANY. Meridian DNS shit
I been working in DMS, Enterprise, Optical.. projects, sad to see Nortel die, we been pionner....but the way we do never change....what we make, you( customer) should take.....this is the way, this is Nortel...... Mr. Customer you take it or ..........fxxk off.....this is the day that Nortel die
DMS, didn't die. Xa-Core still lives on and is still generating revenue. In my opinion, the technical side was never deficient. We came out with products, but marketing and product management failed. Nortel moved away from its core competency, is what killed it. At the end we were trying to outsource manufacturing to companies making iPods, when our products were not suitable for. The push for Six Sigma, was also foolish, since it chewed up money that we couldn't afford to waste.
I agree. System updates that we'd been asking for, for decades, we finally received under six sigma. By then we had so little work it didn't make a difference. We just wondered why we were getting this now when no it longer mattered.
Then they had us do two different reports for two different Six Sigma groups for each order. Both groups asking for the same data.
I have never been emploee of Nortel but I work as an engineer for NSN. From your posts I understand that you had great and productive time in Nortel. It is always sad when productive people lose their jobs because "white colars" are focusing on their careers... I really hope we (NSN) won't share the same fate... Good luck people ... After all it is not the end of the world but the end of an era...
Great lyrics and performance - it is so sad how Nortel went down the drain. I was sold to C i e n a - they just started to lay off - same story as with Nortel over the past years. I have been with Nortel the past 14 years and I don't think that I will find happyness at my new "home". All the best to all former Nortel employees.
Genetic engineers in an effort to maximize yield crafted a 100lb turkey. Observers noticed its legs were too small to support its weight. The turkey thought life was normal!
Really great Song. But what ever happend with us at nortel in the end. It was a great Time working with my collegues at nortel the last 11years. I am just sorry fronte Men Team, As it seams that cinena Starts to lay off, just like nortel did. All the Best!
Well, that Protel DID make me smile. And DMS, it WAS the best. I'm sad about what happened to the company, but I try to remember all the good times. Best of all was working with a great bunch of people, many of whom are still my friends today. Thanks for the memories!
Great song and Great ppl !! i was working at Nortel ISRAEL. Its was the best time of my live. best colleague at the local brunch and across the world. Got the boot one year and a bit ago. LOVE you all and MISS you all the tech ppl ! you'r the BEST !!!
agree it's a great song about a sad moment in telecom history. I worked for Nortel in Maidenhead then Sydney - through the good times and bad and still can't believe how it went down the gurgler. If you wrote it Joe - congrats - spent many an hour on conference calls with you!
Great work from Nortel folks, as always, as expected! Thanks, particularly for the immortal line "not a word was spoken, the conference bridges all were broken."
Great Song... Great Memories with over 20 years I had at Northern, Northern Telecom, Nortel... I started in Nashville, and saw all the products - imagination residental phones, then Vantage Key system, to Displayphone, Norstar, SL-1, DV-1 Companion, to Meridian 1, to CTI, to Symposium... . What a ride... Too many "Right turns" - But we had our song... Cheers, Chiph
A little embarrassed that this brought a tear to my eye. 14 years with Nortel in Richardson and Sydney. It was great ride, but a very sad ending. Still can't believe this all happened.
I was there for 14 years myself, it's funny during the early layoff years how many times I was old that with my skill set I'd be there till the doors closed, and I was, I knew I should have left earlier, oh well, this song is so true, kudo's to the guy that wrote it
Great song. I hope we learned from this. A hard, expensive lesson. Never planned to be there 25+ years, never thought it would end like that. Best of luck to everyone.
I can't believe this brought a tear to my eyes. Nortel was my first REAL job out of college. 14 years there. But I did get out on my own as opposed to getting laid off. Really hurts when you see something like this coming and know there is nothing you can do about it.
This is a great parody and a very sad story. I worked for Nortel for ten years and never thought I would see this happen. Your song made me cry. RIP Nortel.
I watched Nortel die over many, many years. People at the top who could not find their butts is they had a map and someone held a flashlight for them. Death became certain when BNR became a department of Nortel.
Thank you for posting this. It made me cry. Can some things be learned from the fall of this once Great company. I hope it wasn't all for nothing. I am sorry for Nortel, and any other company that might suffer the same fate. Courage to all.
