Well, the director of the original Grudge, Ju-On, directed the American version too. He wanted to tell the story to another audience because he felt the story was so cool that he needed to share it. So technically, the Grudge wasn't stolen ^^

one being directed by a non mainstream director Takishii Mikke(spelling incorrect). While the other missed call movies are mainstream Japanese directors
